3 Greetings Brothers. Worthy President s Message This month at our District meeting in Redwood City on May 5 we will be having our Memorial services for members that have passed away this year. I urge you to attend and pay your respect to those who have done great service to our Fraternity for many years. We lost some very outstanding brothers and sisters this year and they will be dearly missed. Redwood City usually will serve a light lunch following. Friday May 10 will be another BIG fundraiser at the Aerie. Spinal cord injuries disable many individuals yearly and our support is greatly needed. We plan on having State President, Peter Ackers, and some other "special" guests at the Aerie for this event. Grant and Betsy Beech will be co-chairs and are planning a great Korean BBQ. They have been working extremely hard at putting this together and have come up with some terrific raffle prizes and a door prize. This fundraiser is sure to be one you wouldn't want to miss! There is limited seating so call the Aerie early to get your reservations Last month Donna Valentine and Robert Prieto, along with their crew, held our annual Alzheimer's charity diner dinner. And you know what??? A hamburger NEVER tasted as good as when you know ALL the profit is going to charity. We raised a total of $ for Alzheimer's. Great job guys. Sharks have made the Stanley Cup playoffs!!!! Warriors are in the NBA playoffs!!!! We could have a "FAN"tastic year in sports for the bay area...and the A s and Giants baseball season is off to a great start. Come down to the Aerie and cheer for your favorite teams and/or favorite sports. State convention is just around the corner. It will be the last week of June and held in Bakersfield this year. Find out how well we did this year in raising funds for all our charities and what our goals will be for next year. Become more informed and involved in your Fraternity. Meet with other brothers from around the state and make new friends. Grand convention will be held in Reno, Nevada this year. Another opportunity for you to become more informed about our organization and make more friends. For additional information regarding either convention see Greg Colburn. May 31 will be here soon and you will need to pay your dues for the upcoming year. Notices will be sent to everyone as a reminder. You should also be receiving letters from candidates running for office. Your vote counts so make your voice heard. Volunteer of the month...hmmmmmm...this person stepped up to the plate for the second month in a row when no one else would to do the member dinners, this person helped with the Alzheimer's fundraiser dinner, this person has stepped up to fill in bartending slots where needed, this person is Robert Prieto. JUSTICE..."Words of wisdom come when good people speak for justice." Psalms 37:30...It takes courage to stand up for what is right. Words have power. They encourage others to take a stand. They can incite change...but, the right MOTIVE is just as important as the right words. Fraternally, Lesa Conry Worthy President

4 Greetings Sisters, HAPPY MOTHER S DAY to all of our Sister s who are honored to be Moms. The modern holiday of Mother s Day was first celebrated in 1908, when Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her mother in America. She then began a campaign to make Mother s Day a recognized holiday in the United States. Past Grand Worthy President of the FOE, Frank E. Hering, made the first known public plea for a national day to honor our mothers in Hering served as Grand Worthy President in 1909 and again in As he traveled the country, his plea for a national Mother s Day became a standard topic during his appearances at Eagle s functions. In 1912, he recommended to the Grand Aerie that every local aerie be presented the opportunity to hold Mother s Day exercises on any Sunday during the year. The proposal was approved and Aeries throughout the nation began to carry the torch for Mother s Day. The date was encouraged by Anna Jarvis, another crusader for a memorial day for mother s. President Woodrow Wilson signed the proclamation and May 10, 1914 became the first official Mother s Day. Thank you to Donna Valentine for chairing the Alzheimer s fundraising dinner on April 12th. Her committee included: Robert Prieto, Jim Scettrini, Sue Allen, Kay Hackett and Natalia Contreras. Your help was greatly appreciated. Over $ was raised for the Alzheimer s Fund. Pizza nights continue on the 3rd Wednesday of the month. Delicious pizza, salad and dessert for only $5.00. Thanks to Natalia Contreras for her hard work each month. Also, thank you to Aerie member Rose Montes for her help, it s greatly appreciated. Join us on May 15th from 5:30-7:30 pm at the Aerie. Plan to be at the Aerie on May 10th for a special fundraising event for SPINAL CORD INJURIES. See details in this issue of the Clipper. Congratulations to Madam Vice President Natalia Contreras for winning the membership attendance drawing at our April 2nd meeting. She went home with a pocket full of cash to the tune of $ You too, could be a winner. Hope to see you at the next meeting. EMOALONMAEY what s this? Visit the Aerie and find out!
