3 Page 3 Giant Tales Volume 18, Issue 10 Annual Meeting Minutes GENERAL MEETING AUGUST 12, 2017 HARRISBURG, PENNSYLVANIA Board Members Present: Kim Demchak, Brenda Cejka, Mike Rutkas, Janine Poyfair Board Members Absent: Howard Postovit, Melisa Davis, Kappy Zahn, Lori Clark Members Present: 28 A quorum was not present Meeting was called to order by the President, Kim Demchak, at 6:39 PM EST. Minutes were not read by the Secretary, Brenda Cejka, from the general meeting held in 2016 at Enid, Oklahoma as there was not a quorum present. They will be presented for approval at the general meeting at the 2018 National at Purina Farms. There was no Treasurer s Report presented. Regional Reports: Midwest Mike Rutkas reported that the Midwest Specialty will be held in October 2017 in Springfield, Illinois. All info is currently available on the GSCA website. He also reported that the 2018 National will be held at Purina Farms the third week in October. It is a four day show with all events being held outside. There will also be a Top 10 included. East Janine Poyfair reported that the Giants were taking home everything at this year s National. Ty has won BIS daily, Jake won BIS Owner Handler and Teller won BIS Puppy. She reported that there will be an Eastern Specialty the first weekend in January 2018 in Fredericksburg, VA. It is an indoor facility. All info will be on the GSCA website soon. Barnhunt will be included. South Our southern director, Melisa Davis, was unable to attend so there was no report at this time. West Our western director, Lori Clark, was unable to attend however Kim reported that the 2019 National will be held in Greely, Colorado in October New Business: Kim reported that we have had a group of volunteer members who have been working to update our Versatility Point System. The Board will be reviewing their recommendations and advising the membership of any changes. E-Balloting Our first e-ballot will be out in a couple of weeks which will include changes to the constitution on membership renewals/ status and the process for notification of selected Judges. The next e-ballot will be for Judge s selection. All qualified judges will be included. The one receiving the most votes will be contacted and given ten business days to reply. If no reply is received, we will move to the second selection, etc. Kim also reported that the GSCA has been approved for Scent Work. Kim extended many thanks to the Eastern committee for the wonderful National for Doug Hill mentioned that the National Judge reported to him that we did a great job and we presented some very nice dogs. We discussed mentoring members and giant owners and giving recognition where due. It was also recommended that a grooming clinic be provided at future events. Holly Reed made a motion to adjourn. Anna Stromberg seconded. Motion passed unanimously. Meeting adjourned at 7:10 PM EST
