2 P A G E 2 President s Message Summer 2017 Happy Summer (heading in to Fall) Everyone! I am not sure what the weather is like where you are, but it has really cooled down here in Nashville, and the dogs are quite happy about that after all the heat this summer. There is not a lot to report since summer tends to be a slow season for the club, with everyone out enjoying their dogs. We are happy to announce that we have a judge coming from France again for the 2018 National Specialty, M. Marcel Procureur! (Please read more information elsewhere in the Sheep Pen and keep an eye on the Facebook page: groups/ / as well as the club website.) Also, as you know we are going to publish the Merit Evaluation results from the 2017 National. The expected date for publication of that for 2017 will be in September, so watch for more information. Marcel Procureur Puppy and Veteran s Sweeps April 15 - Judge: Susan Landry Whiticar (USA) Obedience: Obedience and Rally last year had 6 Obedience trials and 5 Rally trials (Friday will count for our National awards) Agility: Agility Wednesday Sunday (Saturday will count for our National awards) Friday evening (April 13): Welcome Party Membership Meeting TCQ evaluations Saturday evening (April 14): Awards Banquet Basket Silent Auction Other Events: (These were held in 2017, so we should see similar events in 2018) CGC and CGCA, Barn Hunt, Lure Coursing, Dock Diving, Herding, Carting, Health Clinics All club events will be held at the fairgrounds.info on the host hotel will be coming soon. RV reservations Sheril Ray will collect reservations to turn in together if you would like to camp together. 5 P A G E 5 CLUB NEWS - BOD Meeting Minutes June 25, 2017 Board meeting was opened by Joni Monney-McKeown at 8:08 p.m. EST and adjourned at 9:35 p.m. EST Board members in attendance: Joni Monney-McKeown, Regina Libby, Janet Melton, Donna Whitham, Diane Overstreet, Sue Synder and Deb Huff Prior Board Meeting Minutes: Approved as drafted Secretary Report: None Treasurer s Report: Attachment was provided via in advance of the meeting o To better understand the expenses incurred by the club for the national specialties and to set future such budgets, need to review expenses incurred for the past 3 specialties o Will discuss further at the next board meeting Nominating Committee o Janet Melton will serve as the board representative on the committee o In addition, Sheril Ray and Melinda Hughes have agreed to join the committee o Two other alternates are pending o The nominating committee report will be due in September 2017 Versatility Committee o The board indicated support for the proposed changes presented thus far, including the continuation of the versatility plaque o Future discussions are scheduled in July and October PSCA Agility Trial o Associated expenses approved Insurance Premium Motion Carried o Premium expense approved Motion Carried 2017 National Specialty Yearbook / Merit Evaluations o Expect for these to be ready for distribution in September National Specialty o Unfortunately, David Clayton will not be able to serve as the Trial Chairperson; as a result, a plea for a new trial chairperson will be sent via the PSCA o An underlying committee has already been formed and will include Sarah Herring, Diane Overstreet, Pam Voltas and Sheril Ray o Update: Sue Snyder has agreed to chair the specialty in Perry, GA, and David Clayton will remain on the committee. Conformation Judges for the 2018 National Specialty o Based upon the recommendations of the membership, three potential conformation judges have been identified and once the location/dates for the National Specialty are determined, we can move forward in securing one of these conformation judges Motion Carried

6 P A G E 6 CLUB NEWS - BOD Meeting Minutes (cont d) Meet the Breed Booth in Orlando o A communication will be sent to the membership via the PSCA address to solicit volunteers for managing the booth o If no one comes forward, the club will still fund the Medallions for Conformation ($125), Obedience ($45) and Agility ($45) Regional Specialty Motion Carried o The board decided, at this time, that we will not create a Regional Specialty Policy. We will however continue to support groups that may want to offer supported entries, as per our current Supported Entry Policy. This decision was made because: Motion Carried 2018 French Herding Specialty As a small club it is necessary at this time to focus our time and resources on the National Specialty, and not divert those resources elsewhere. Having regional specialties would put an undue financial burden, as well as volunteer service burden, on the club. The expenses for a regional specialty could become substantial with hiring judges, including sweeps judges, and other expenses. The PSCA would be fully responsible for all of the AKC s rules and regulations to be followed in regard to the show, unlike a supported entry. Historically parent clubs have encouraged the formation of regional clubs to form to put on regional specialties, not to put on their own. Our own constitution addresses this as well: FROM THE PSCA CONSTITUTION - SECTION 2 f) To encourage the organization of regional Pyrenean Shepherd clubs in areas which contain sufficient numbers of Pyrenean Shepherd fanciers to support such clubs. o For similar reasons as stated for not supporting regional specialties at this time, the PSCA will not participate in the 2018 French Herding Specialty Gazette Column Motion Carried o Need to solicit an author for our column in the September and December Gazette magazine o Update: Katherine McGuire has agreed to author a column for the September issue and will send her draft to the board for approval in advance PSCA Rescue o Board discussed the proposed rescue adoption contract developed by Susan Buttivant and Donna Whitham, in partnership with Julie Steddom o Given the extent of the comments and the questions raised, the board was advised to provide Donna Whitham with their comments for consideration and possible inclusion in the next draft of this contract Meeting Adjourned
