In order to go faster in the project, three different-sized-rounded shades had already made before, so the students could focus their job on how to cut correctly and safely these three distinctive parts used as the upper parts of the lamp. Some big cylindrical wood items (three models) were built so as to facilitate the cutting job: you have to slide slightly the rounded shades onto the wood item. Then the first process was to cut the different size shades to get enough lampshades. To be sure the students worked safely, they built a template which allowed them to get the cylindrical item steady and stable when they cut the parts. 1

First, they drew the contour of the foot on a paper in order to get the right dimension and the pattern to start. Then after building one model, they drew the contour of this model on long wooden boards. 6

One of the teachers of this group was working on the knob. This knob has the function to hold steadily the whole upper part of the lamp to the stick. This teacher created a template which allowed 8

9 to block the square knob safely in order to use the belt sanding machine to sand each corner so as to get curved corners. We also decided to put a top on the stick; for this, every student could try to work on the turning machine to create his own personal piece. It was a good opportunity to learn how to use some specific turning tools. 9

10 At the very end of the project, everybody assembled all the pieces together, gluing the lampshades holders to the lamp holder. On Thursday we visited Stockholm by boat in the morning. 10

11 In the afternoon we went to Linköpings universitet where we had a nice visit of the school. We finished the day with a wonderful Dinner made by Astrid and Britt and all the Swedish teachers. And the desert was a European song festival in five languages. On Friday morning we went a last time to the school to make a quick feedback from the week and to give each person the pieces form the product. 11
