1 Title Organisation /Author Date Status Product and Process Room Workshops Oslo bsi/roger Grant/Jan Karlshøj 11-Oct.-12 Final Product and Process Room Workshops in Tokyo, October 2012 buildingsmart International has formed the Product Room and Process Room to support professionals within architecture, engineering, construction, product manufacturing, and facility operations and management benefit from building information modelling (BIM) through the use of open standards, known as openbim. The use of BIM can result in significant savings, however, it requires focus from management, reengineering of work processes, detailed data specifications and availability of compatible software tools. openbim uses a combination of building information modelling tools and transferring data by open standards to help the building industry collectively meet these requirements. The Product Room is mainly focusing on the data specifications and procedures for how virtual building products should be constructed in order to be used in a virtual building. Whereas the Process Room is looking at the reengineering of design, construction and operation processes by building information modeling tools. The Product Room will have its second workshop in Tokyo, Japan Tuesday 16 th October The Process Room will have a parallel workshop at the same time. There will be great opportunities to network with people within the International buildingsmart community as buildingsmart Japan is hosting meetings of the (IUG) and International Technical Management committee (ITM) as well as an Industry Day. In addition, ISO TC59 will hold meetings during the same week in a nearby location. For a full agenda of the week s meetings and activities see the builingsmart International website, The Product and Process Room workshops will focus on successful implementation of openbim through use of open standards, looking at key factors for success driven by experience from case studies. Product Room Workshop Agenda (Process Room Workshop Agenda follows) Tuesday 16 th October At Hotel Azur Takeshiba Kaigan, Minato-ku, Tokyo The workshop is focusing on how to benefit from using open BIM and Data Dictionaries during design, construction, and operation. All segments will have samples based on case studies and have time dedicated to discussion in which the audience is expected to take part. 1 bsi/roger Grant/Jan Karlshøj
