7 Reasons for the Slow Adoption of IFCs 2D drafting still dominating practice Real market demand for IFCs has been missing However, the market situation is now changing Technical problems IFC certified software, but certification process is not rigid and implementation quality is not sufficient Lack of sufficient technical support Human obstacles Resistance for change Lack of knowledge and skills Lack of clear evidence of the benefits Fragmented market Who owns the process? 11 Examples of Interoperability Status New marketing brand of IAI: buildingsmart Finland has been among the first countries to adopt IFCs: National Programs: VERA , SARA Several pilot projects by Senate Properties since 2001 Senate will star requiring models starting Oct 1st 2007 Wide adoption by the contractors: ProIT by Confederation of Finnish Construction Industry Singapore has actively developed the use of IFC in the Corenet project Main focus in the Code Checking Norway has been very active since 2005 Information Delivery Manual (IDM) Funding also IFC 2x2G (GIS extension of IFCs) Some pilot projects: New Akershus Hospital, Statsbygg, University College in Tromsø BIM Status - October 25,
