Product Data: Materials description for each type of product and process specified and incorporated into items of woodwork during fabrication, finishing, and installation. 2. Shop Drawings: Show plans, elevations and details of all woodwork fabrications, indicating materials, applied finishes, arrangement, profiles, thicknesses, construction fastenings, blocking clearances, assembly and erection details, built-in hardware and necessary connections to other work. a. Casework: Elevations and locations of each assembly. Indicate dimensions, thicknesses, surfacing materials, drawers, doors and door swings, sections of typical and special cases. Indicate core materials, edge treatments and construction. b. Work Surfaces: Plans and locations of each work surface. Indicate dimensions. Indicate locations and sizes of openings including those for sinks. Indicate provisions for securing work surfaces to cases, and for securing window sills. 3. Samples a. Plastic Laminates: Two 2" x 3" (minimum) swatches in each pattern, color, and finish selected or specified. b. Finished Lumber: Two 5" x 24" (minimum) pieces of lumber for transparent finish, of each species and cut, finished on one side and one edge in the finish selected or specified. c. Finished Wood Veneers: Two 8" x 10" (minimum) pieces of wood veneered panel product for transparent finish, of each species, cut and finish selected or specified. 1) Include at least one face veneer seam. d. Hardware: One of each type of hardware item, in color and style selected, specified, or indicated on the Drawings. Bid Set

Trim and Accessories: One of each type of grommet in color and style selected, specified, or indicated on the Drawings. 4. Certifications a. Submit certification by treating plant stating chemicals and process used, net amount of salts retained, and conformance with applicable standards. b. Preservative Treated Wood: Submit certification for water-borne preservative that moisture content was reduced to 19 percent maximum, after treatment. c. Fire-Retardant Treatment: Submit certification by treating plant that fire-retardant treatment materials comply with governing ordinances and that treatment will not bleed through finished surfaces. d. In lieu of written certifications specified above, provide each uncut piece of lumber and plywood stamped with the appropriate designation for each treatment required. 5. Special Submittal Requirements: Combine submittals of this Section with Sections listed below to ensure the Design Intent of the system/assembly is understood and can be reviewed together. a. Section Laboratory Countertops and Sinks: For epoxy countertops fitted to and anchored to base cabinet. b. Section Plumbing Fixtures: For fixtures in cabinets, countertops, and work surfaces. c. Division 23 - HVAC: For mechanical fixtures such as vents, grilles fitted to the cabinets, countertops, and work surfaces. d. Division 26- Electrical: For electrical fixtures such as outlets fitted into the cabinets, countertops, and work surfaces DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING A. Protect materials during transit, delivery, storage and handling to prevent damage, soiling and deterioration. B. Do not deliver materials until painting, wet work, grinding, and similar operations which could damage, soil and deteriorate materials, have been completed in installation areas. C. If, due to unforeseen circumstances, materials must be stored in other than installation areas, store only in areas which meet the requirements specified for installation areas. D. Immediately remove damaged and otherwise unsuitable materials from the Project site when so determined FIELD CONDITIONS A. Environmental Limitations: Do not deliver or install woodwork until building is enclosed, until interior concrete and masonry work, and other wet operations are complete, and proper temperature and humidity conditions can be maintained during and after installation through remainder of construction period. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.01 PERFORMANCE CRITERIA A. Fabricate interior architectural woodwork in compliance with the applicable requirements of the AWI / AWS, except where otherwise shown on the Drawings or specified herein. B. Wood Moisture Content: Comply with requirements of AWI / ASW for wood moisture content in relation to relative humidity conditions existing during fabrication and in installation areas. C. Preservative-Treated Wood: Where preservative-treated (moisture resistant) materials or products are indicated on the Drawings or specified, provide materials in compliance with AWPA Use Category System (UCS) U1 designations for preservative treated systems and retentions, that have been determined to be effective in protecting wood products under specific moisture exposure conditions as specified in Section D. Fire-Retardant Treated Wood: Where fire-retardant materials or products are indicated on the Drawings or specified, provide materials in compliance with AWPA Use Category System (UCS) U1 designations for fire retardant systems and retentions, that have been determined to be effective in protecting wood products under specific exposure conditions as specified in Section MATERIALS A. For softwood lumber, softwood plywood, preservative-treated and fire-retardant lumber and plywood, and rough hardware and fasteners refer to Section Bid Set

Color: Color to match plastic laminate colors as selected by the Architect from manufacturer's full line of colors. E. Hardware: Provide cabinet hardware and accessory materials associated with architectural cabinets. 1. Exposed Hardware Finish: US26D, satin chrome. 2. Concealed Hardware Finish: Manufacturer's standard finish complying with product class requirements of BHMA A Continuous (piano) Type Hinges: Heavy duty, full wrap around continuous type hinge of Type 304 stainless steel, with non-removable tight pin with hospital tips, accommodating 13/16" thick laminated door, allowing 270 degree swing. a. Door and Drawer Tumbler Locks: Locks and keys furnished by Owner and shipped directly to the cabinet fabricator. Owner will coordinate keying prior to furnishing. 7. Grommets and Wire Management a. Wire Trough: Square flexible corner opening for insertion of wires, secured with double-sided tape, staples or screws, capable of mounting vertically or horizontally under the work surface, "WM4, G-Shape Wire Manager", (Doug Mockett & Company, Inc.) 1) Size: 2 1/8" square; 1 to 6 ft long. e. Color: Selected by Architect from manufacturer's full line of colors to match laminate countertops. 8. Shelf Supports a. Pilasters: Recessed 23-gauge high strength steel standards. 1) Number 255 Steel Standards, (Knape & Vogt Manufacturing Company) b. Pilaster Shelf Supports: 243 Series, (Knape & Vogt Manufacturing Company). Clip with 3" cross support for 255 & 233 pilaster. Provide 2 screws for each support. 9. Catches: Magnetic catch for base and wall cabinets. Catches shall provide opening resistance to meet ADA requirements. a. Provide 2 catches at each tall cabinet door. 10. Shelf Reinforcements a. Shelves 36" and wider shall be reinforced with a 20 gage steel hat channel or equivalent reinforcement for full width of shelf to reduce sagging when loaded. Secure to shelf at midpoint of shelf depth. b. Finish: Shop applied paint finish to match shelf color. 11. Metal Trim Shapes: Angles, channels, reveals where indicated on Drawings. a. Manufacturers and Products: One of the following: 1) Stylmark, Inc. 2) Doug Mockett & Company, Inc. 3) Approved substitutions b. Materials: Type 304 Stainless Steel, No. 4 Satin finish. c. Sizes and shapes indicated on Drawings. F. Woodwork Fasteners: Select material, type, size, and finish required for each use. 1. Refer to Section for fasteners and finishes. 2. Use corrosion-resistant fasteners for fastening preservative-treated and fire-retardant treated wood, and for fastening into preservative-treated and fire-retardant treated wood substrates or blocking. G. Construction Adhesives: One component, polyurethane based, moisture curing adhesive, VOC compliant, containing no chlorinated solvents or water, waterproof, and paintable, formulation complying with APA AFG-01, or ASTM D3498, for interior or exterior construction FABRICATION A. General: Complete fabrication, including assembly, finishing, and hardware application, before shipment to Project site to maximum extent possible. 1. Woodwork shall be fabricated in the shop in largest units possible and delivered to the Project site for installation. Disassemble components only as necessary for shipment and installation. Where necessary to fit units at the Project site, allowance shall be made for cutting and fitting. 2. Shop-cut openings to maximum extent possible, to receive hardware, plumbing fixtures, electrical work, and similar items. Locate openings accurately and use templates or roughing-in diagrams to produce accurately sized and shaped openings. Smooth edges of cutouts and, where located in countertops and similar exposures, seal edges with a water-resistant coating. 3. Not all details of woodwork are shown on the Drawings. The fabricator shall utilize the most advantageous manufacturing processes to achieve the quality of woodwork indicated herein by reference to AWI / ASW. B. Standing and Running Trim: Fabricate in accordance with AWI / ASW Section 6 - Interior & Exterior Millwork, Custom Grade, including closet hook strips and miscellaneous trim. 1. Coordinate with Section 8 - Wall Surfacing. C. Wall Surfacing (Paneling): Fabricate in accordance with AWI / ASW Section 8 - Wall Surfacing, Custom Grade, including miscellaneous trim. 1. Coordinate with Section 6 - Interior & Exterior Millwork. Bid Set

Fabricate in accordance with AWI / ASW Section 10 - Casework, Custom Grade, Type A Construction, Flush Overlay, unless otherwise detailed on the Drawings or specified herein. b. Cabinet Sub-Bases: Separate and continuous, preservative treated lumber and C-D, Group 1, Exterior, APA-Rated, 7-ply minimum, exterior graded plywood with concealed fastening to cabinet bottom. Ladder-type construction, of front, back and intermediates, to form a secure and level platform to which cabinets are attached. Do NOT extend cabinet body sides to the floor. E. Plastic-Laminate Clad Cabinet Construction 1. Substrates: C-D, Group 1, Exposure 1, APA-Rated, 7-ply minimum, exterior graded plywood. 2. Substrate Edges: Solid wood lumber and concealed by plastic laminate. 3. Exposed Surfaces and Cabinet Body Edges, including underside of wall cabinets: VGS and HGS plastic laminates specified in Article Doors and Drawers: Plastic laminates specified in Article a. Exposed Surfaces of Fronts and Edges: VGS plastic laminate. b. Interior Side of Doors and Drawer Fronts: VGS plastic laminate. c. Interior Side of Drawers, except fronts specified above, and Drawer Bottoms: CLS plastic laminate. d. Apply bumpers/silencers to interior face doors and drawers to prevent door and drawer faces from slamming and taking shock of closing. 5. Semiexposed and Concealed Surfaces: CLS plastic laminates specified in Article a. Surfaces including, but not limited to: 1) Cabinet interiors behind doors and drawer fronts; 2) Concealed drawer body surfaces, and; 3) All surfaces which are permanently concealed. 6. Shelving Surfaces and Edges a. Thickness 1) Concealed from View (behind cabinet doors) a) 3/4" for standard shelving up to 32" wide. b) 1" for shelving 32" wide and over. 2) Exposed to View Within the Cabinet Bodies: 1" regardless of length. b. Surfaces, except edges 1) Exposed to View within Cabinet Bodies: HGS plastic laminate. 2) Concealed from View (behind cabinet doors): HGS plastic laminate. c. Edges 1) Exposed to View within Cabinet Bodies: Leading edge of PVC, flat faced, 0.020" thick. 2) Concealed from View (behind cabinet doors): Leading edge of PVC, flat faced, 0.020" thick. 3) Fixed Shelves: Side and rear edges dadoed and engaged into cabinet sides. d. Reinforcing: Shelves 32" and wider shall be reinforced with a 20 gage steel hat channel or equivalent reinforcement for full width of shelf to reduce sagging when loaded. Secure to shelf at midpoint of shelf depth. 7. Hardware a. Install hardware in accordance with manufacturer's requirements. b. Coordinate with Owner for furnishing locks and installation. F. Plastic-Laminate Clad Countertops and Work Surfaces: Fabricate in accordance with AWI / ASW Section 11 - Countertops, Custom Grade, with high pressure decorative laminate. 1. Plastic laminates specified in Article 2.02, with set on backsplashes. 2. Front Edge Treatment: Solid hardwood, with 45 degree chamfer at top/leading edge. Stained and sealed. a. Refer to drawings for size and profile of front edge. 3. Back and Side Splashes a. Solid lumber base with HGS plastic laminate and laminate backing sheet on reverse side. b. Top Edge Treatment: Solid hardwood, with 45 degree chamfer at top/leading edge as detailed on the Drawings. Stained and sealed Bid Set

Apply laminate backing sheet to reverse side of plastic laminate finished surfaces. G. Plastic Laminate Window Stools 1. Substrate: C-D, Group 1, Exposure 1, APA-Rated, 7-ply minimum, exterior graded plywood. 2. Exposed Surfaces: HGS plastic laminates specified in Article Concealed Surfaces: Apply laminate backing sheet to reverse side of plastic laminate stools. 4. Front Edge Treatment: Solid hardwood, with 45 degree chamfer at top/leading edge. Stained and sealed. a. Refer to drawings for size and profile of front edge. 5. Fabrication a. Fabricate units in one piece, as much as possible unless otherwise indicated. b. Fabricate stools with shop-applied self edges of materials same as horizontal surfaces. c. Cut stool to fit opening and drill. d. Cut and plow or rout window sills to fit with aluminum window anchoring systems. H. Adjustable Loose Shelving 1. Plastic Laminate Clad: HGS plastic laminates specified in Article 2.02 bonded to 3/4" plywood, 7-ply minimum. 2. Edges and Ends: PVC, flat faced, 0.020" thick. I. Wood Moisture Content: Comply with requirements of referenced quality standard for wood moisture content in relation to relative humidity conditions existing during fabrication and in installation areas FINISHING A. Architectural woodwork shown or scheduled for clear or transparent finish, shall be shop finished prior to field installation, complying with AWI / ASW Section 5 - Finishing. Apply finish specified, allow to dry, and protect during shipment to Project site, storage, and installation, to prevent damage to finish. 1. Clear Finish a. Apply wash-coat sealer to woodwork made for closed-grain wood before staining and finishing. b. Apply finish specified (with and without stain as scheduled). c. Apply complete system to surfaces concealed by doors and drawers, and to surfaces exposed to view in the finished work. 2. Stained Transparent Finish a. Sealer and finish coat products required to produce finish system complying with AWI / ASW Section 5 - Finishing, Custom Grade, System 6 - Polyurethane, Catalyzed, and required to match approved samples. b. Sheen: Gloss units, measured on 60-degree gloss meter in accordance with ASTM D523. 1) Flat, 10 to 25 gloss units. 2) Satin, 31 to 45 gloss units. c. Color: Match Architect's furnished samples; (WD-1). 3. Backpriming: Except as otherwise specified, apply one coat of sealer or primer to concealed surfaces of woodwork, including backs of cabinets and undersides of countertops, unless surfaced with plastic laminate or thermoset decorative overlay. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.01 EXAMINATION A. Examine substrates, areas, and conditions, with installer present where indicated, for compliance with requirements for installation tolerances and other conditions affecting performance. Notify the Contractor of conditions detrimental to performance of the Work and recommended corrections. Where the installation and its completion may be delayed due to existing conditions, follow notification immediately with a written report. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected PREPARATION A. Verify measurements at the building and provide necessary closures and trim to fit the items enclosing walls. Provide other trades with information necessary for proper completion of related work. Before installing woodwork, examine shop-fabricated components for completion, and complete work as required, including backpriming INSTALLATION A. General 1. Install woodwork to comply with AWI Section 1700 for the same grade specified in PART 2 - PRODUCTS for type of woodwork involved. 2. Work shall be installed by experienced finish carpenters only. Work shall be erected plumb, true and square in a substantial manner. 3. Finished work shall be neatly installed, free of slivers, open joints, hammer and tool marks. 4. Shim as required using concealed shims. 5. Cut to fit unless specified to be shop-fabricated or shop-cut to exact size. 6. Where woodwork abuts other finished work, scribe and cut for accurate fit. 7. Drill pilot holes at corners of cutouts, and for all edge nailing to prevent splits. No splits will be allowed in the finished work. 8. Distribute defects allowed in the quality grade specified, if any, to the best over-all advantage, when installing job assembled woodwork items. 9. Secure woodwork to anchors or blocking built-in or directly attached to substrates INSTALLATION OF STANDING AND RUNNING TRIM A. Trim and Mouldings: Install in single, unjointed lengths for openings and for runs less than 10 feet. For longer runs, use only one piece less than 10 feet in any straight run. Stagger joints in adjacent members. Cope at returns and mitre at corners. 1. Attach securely in place with uniform joints providing for thermal and building movements. 2. Nailing: Blind nail where possible. Use fine finishing nails where exposed. Set exposed nail heads and fill nail holes with matching wood filler. 3. Anchoring: Secure woodwork to anchors or blocking built-in or directly attached to substrates. B. Preparation for Finish: Clean woodwork and fill nail holes in preparation for finishes specified under Painting Sections of these Specifications. Where woodwork is to receive a transparent finish, use matching wood filler INSTALLATION OF WOOD PANELING A. Grade: Install wood paneling to comply with same grade as item to be installed. B. Assemble wood paneling and complete fabrication at Project site to the extent that it was not completed in the shop. C. Tolerances 1. Install wood paneling level, plumb, true, and straight. Shim as required with concealed shims. Install level and plumb to a tolerance of 1/8" in 96". Install with no more than 1/16" in 96" vertical cup or bow and 1/8" in 96" horizontal variation from a true plane. 2. Flush Paneling with Revealed Joints: Install with variations in reveal width, alignment of top and bottom edges, and flushness between adjacent panels not exceeding 1/32". D. Scribe and cut wood paneling to fit adjoining work, refinish cut surfaces, and repair damaged finish at cuts. E.
