1 SECTION WOOD DOORS Notice to Vendors: CANV prefers to purchase products that contain tropical wood only if they are certified according to the guidelines of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). Please provide the country of manufacture of each product you expect to supply to us. Also please provide a list of FSC-certified products you can supply. PART 1 GENERAL 1.01 SUMMARY A. See Section Administrative Requirements for submittal procedures. 1. Product Data: Indicate door core materials and construction; veneer species, type and characteristics including installation instructions for each type of wood door. 2. Shop Drawings: Illustrate door opening criteria, elevations, sizes, types, swings, undercuts required, special beveling, special blocking for hardware, factory machining criteria, factory finishing criteria, identify cutouts for glazing and louvers. a. Include details of core and edge construction, trim for openings, and blocking provided at hardware locations. b. Include certifications as may be required to show compliance with specifications QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Perform work in accordance with AWI Architectural Woodwork Quality Standards Illustrated, Section 1400, Custom Grade. Maintain one copy on site. B. Manufacturer: Company specializing in manufacturing the products specified in this section with minimum five years of documented experience. C. Quality Marking: Mark each wood door with AWI Wood Flush Door Certification Hallmark certifying compliance with applicable requirements of AWI. WOOD DOORS

2 D. Manufacturer: Obtain doors from a single manufacturer to ensure uniformity in quality of appearance and construction, unless otherwise indicated DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND PROTECTION A. Package, deliver and store doors in accordance with AWI P-200, Section Delivery: Do not deliver doors to building until it is entirely enclosed, drywall and concrete work is completed, and humidity in building has reached average relative humidity of locality. 2. Accept doors on site in manufacturer's packaging. Inspect for damage. 3. Protect doors with resilient packaging sealed with heat shrunk plastic. Do not store in damp or wet areas; or in areas where sunlight might bleach veneer. Seal top and bottom edges with tinted sealer if stored more than one week. Break seal on site to permit ventilation. 4. Storage: Stack doors flat and off floor in manner to prevent warping or twisting, and to provide ventilation. Store doors with non-staining dunnage between leaves. Do not drag doors across one another PROJECT CONDITIONS A. Coordinate the work with door opening construction, door frame and door hardware installation WARRANTY A. See Section Closeout Submittals for additional warranty requirements. 1. Provide warranty for the following term: One (1) year. 2. Include coverage for delamination of veneer, warping beyond specified installation tolerances, defective materials, and telegraphing core construction below face veneers, exceeding tolerance limitations of NWWDA. 3. Specific Product Warranty: Submit written agreement on door manufacturer s standard door signed by Manufacturer, Installer and Contractor, agreeing to repair or replace defective doors which have warped (bow, cup or twist) or which show telegraphing of core construction below in face veneers, or do not conform to tolerance limitations of AWI. a. Guarantee for stile and rail doors One (1) year. PART 2 PRODUCTS 2.01 MANUFACTURERS A. Flush and Paneled Doors: 1. Masonite Corporation. 2. Mohawk Flush Doors, Inc. 3. Woodland Industries, Inc. 4. Haley Bros., Inc. 5. Jeld-Wen, Inc. 6. Substitutions: See Section Product Requirements DOOR TYPES A. Unit Entries: General Product Co., Inc., Fredericksburg, Virginia or approved equal. a. Williamsburg design, embossed, 6 panel door. b. Fire rating as indicated on contract drawings or if not indicated provide, 1 hour Class B fire-rated (Entrance Doors). c. R value: Wood Frames: 20-, 45-, 60-, and 90-minute approved vision panel. For light openings in fire doors: manufacturer s standard frame in matching or compatible species and approved for use in door of fire rating indicated by architect. WOOD DOORS

3 B. Swinging Interior Hollow Core Stile and Rail Doors: Paneled hollow core doors with molded hardboard faces as scheduled on Drawings. Thickness as scheduled on Drawings. 1. Hollow core, softwood internal frames, pressed hardboard 6 panel faced or flush as selected. 2. Pre-hung with split jamb, standard trim. 3. Provide one and a half (1-1/2) pair hinges 4. Type II adhesive 5. Provide all hardware for bi-passing C. Sliding Interior Doors: 1-3/8 inches thick; hollow core construction. D. French Doors: Solid wood stile and rail, pattern as shown. 1. Shop glaze with glass type indicated or if not indicated glaze with ¼ thick clear tempered glass DOOR CORES A. Non-Rated Solid Core and 20 Minute Rated Doors: AWI Architectural Woodwork Quality Standards Illustrated, Section 1300, Type PC - Particleboard. B. Hollow Core Doors: AWI Architectural Woodwork Quality Standards Illustrated, Section 1300, Type SHC - Standard DOOR FACINGS A. Interior Doors - Hardboard: AHA A135.4, Class 1 - Tempered, S2S (smooth two sides) hardboard, composition face, 1/8 inch thick; for paint finish. 1. Provide grainy surface, molded panel patterns as indicated on Drawings ACCESSORIES A. Prehung Swinging Doors: Provide prehung with matching wood frame complete with hinges. 1. Interior Jambs, Head, and Casing: Milled solid or finger-jointed Ponderosa Pine, Idaho White Pine, Southern Pine, Douglas Fir, or equivalent WWPA specie. a. Jambs and Head: Not less than 11/16 inch thick, adjustable two-piece design with integral stop, for wall thickness indicated on Drawings. b. Casing: Standard profile and size selected from manufacturer's standard range. 2. Hinges for Prehung Doors: As specified in Section FABRICATION A. Fabricate doors in accordance with AWI Quality Standards requirements. 1. Provide solid blocks at lock edge for hardware reinforcement. 2. Maintain full bottom rail for doors indicated to be undercut FACTORY FITTING AND MACHINING A. Factory machine doors for hardware other than surface-mounted hardware, in accordance with hardware requirements as specified in Section 08710, and dimensions. 1. Take accurate field measurements of hardware mortises in metal frames to verify dimensions and alignment before proceeding with machining in factory. 2. Doors: Fit and machine doors at factory in accordance with NWWDA I.S. 1-A. 3. Bevel lock edge of doors 1/8 inch for each 2 inches of door thickness FINISH A. Factory prime doors in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations and AWI Quality Standard Section 1500 to receive finish painting in the field. Prime coat: Compatible with finish paint system. 4 B. Seal door top, bottom, side edges and all hardware cutouts with sealer to match door facing. PART 3 EXECUTION 3.01 EXAMINATION A. Verify existing conditions before starting work. 1. Verify that opening sizes and tolerances are acceptable. 2. Do not install doors in frame openings that are not plumb or are out-of-tolerance for size or alignment INSTALLATION A. Conditioning: Condition wood doors to average humidity in installation area prior to hanging. B. Install doors in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and AWI P-200 requirements. C. Factory Primed Wood Doors: Restore primer before installation, if fitting or machining is required at on site. D. Prefitting: Prefit wood doors to frames and machine for hardware to whatever extent not previously worked at factory as required for proper fit and uniform clearance at each edge. In no case shall doors be cut down to opening sizes smaller than those for which they were manufactured. E. Clearance: Provide clearances of 1/8 at jambs and heads; 1/8 at meeting stiles for pairs of doors; and ½ from bottom of door to top of decorative floor finish or covering. Where threshold is shown or scheduled, provide ¼ clearance from bottom of door to top of threshold. F. Trim non-rated door width by cutting equally on both jamb edges. 1. Trim door height by cutting bottom edges to a maximum of 3/4 inch. 2. Use machine tools to cut or drill for hardware. G. Coordinate installation of doors with installation of frames and hardware. H. Coordinate installation of doors with installation of hardware specified in Section I. Sealing: Before installation of hardware on wood doors, brush apply exterior seal coat to all hardware cut outs or planed surfaces including top, bottom and edges. J. Sliding Doors with Hardware: Install in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations INSTALLATION TOLERANCES A. See Section Comply with following tolerances: 1. Conform to AWI P-200, Section 1300 for maximum diagonal distortion. 2. Maximum Vertical Distortion (Bow): 1/8 inch measured with straight edge or taut string, top to bottom, over an imaginary 36 x 84 inches surface area. 3. Maximum Width Distortion (Cup): 1/8 inch measured with straight edge or taut string, edge to edge, over an imaginary 36 x 84 inches surface area ADJUSTING A. Adjust doors for smooth and balanced door movement just prior to Substantial Completion acceptance. 1. Operation: Rehang or replace doors which do not swing or operate freely, as directed by Architect. WOOD DOORS

5 B. Adjust closers for full closure just prior to acceptance PROTECTION A. Advise General Contractor of proper procedures required to protect installed wood doors from damages or deterioration until acceptance of entire project. B. Replacement: Refinish or replace doors damaged during installation. 1. Causes for Rejection of Wood Doors: Include chips, scratches or gouges of veneer and finish defects. END OF SECTION WOOD DOORS
