1 SECTION INTERIOR ARCHITECTURAL WOODWORK PART 1 - GENERAL 1.1 SUMMARY A. Section Includes: 1. Plastic-laminate cabinets. 2. Plastic-laminate countertops. 3. Plastic-laminate window sills. 4. Cabinet hardware and accessories. 5. Steel support tubes. 6. Shop finishing of woodwork of hardwood edges. B. Related Sections: 1. Section Alternates, for Deduct Alternate-4. C. Interior architectural woodwork includes wood furring, blocking, shims, and hanging strips unless concealed within other construction before woodwork installation. D. Woodwork Fabricator and Installer shall also perform Work in Section Overhead Coiling Doors at MW-3 as part of Contract 1-A. 1.2 SUBMITTALS A. Product Data: For cabinet hardware, accessories, and grilles pertaining to architectural woodwork. B. Shop Drawings: Show location of each item, dimensioned plans and elevations, large-scale details, attachment devices, and other components. C. Samples: 1. Plastic-laminates, for each type, color, pattern, and surface finish inch square section of each type of countertop with finished hardwood edges. D. Woodwork Quality Standard Compliance Certificates: AWI Quality Certification Program certificates. 1.3 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Installer Qualifications: Fabricator of woodwork. B. Quality Standard: Unless otherwise indicated, comply with AWI's "Architectural Woodwork Quality Standards. 1. Provide AWI Quality Certification Program labels and certificates for woodwork. 1.4 PROJECT CONDITIONS A. Environmental Limitations: Do not deliver or install woodwork until building is enclosed, wet Work is complete, and HVAC system is operating and maintaining temperature and relative humidity at occupancy levels during the remainder of the construction period. 2 PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 WOODWORK FABRICATORS A. Subject to compliance with requirements, provide products from 1 of the following fabricators: 1. Aaron Carlson Company. 2. Anderson Millwork Company. 3. Associated Wood Products, Inc. 4. Cosney Corporation. 5. Fromm's Sign In Laminate Inc. 6. Millcraft, LLC. 7. Northern Woodwork, Inc. 8. Northland Cabinets, Inc. 9. Northwest Cabinets, Inc. 10. O Keefe Inc. 11. Pioneer Custom Cabinets. 12. R&S Casework. 13. Siewert Cabinet & Fixture Mfg. Inc. 14. Wilkie Sanderson. 15. Wilmar Wood Products. 2.2 MATERIALS A. Wood Species and Cut for Transparent Finish: Solid Red oak, plain sawn or sliced. For hardwood edges. B. Wood Products: 1. Hardboard: AHA A Medium-Density Fiberboard: ANSI A208.2, Grade MD, made with binder containing no urea formaldehyde. a. MDF-1: Standard medium-density fiberboard typical use unless indicated otherwise. b. MDF-2: Moisture-resistant for use at MW-4, and counter and back splash at MW-5 made with exterior glue. C. High-Pressure Decorative Laminate: NEMA LD 3, grades as indicated or, if not indicated, as required by woodwork quality standard. 1. Subject to compliance with requirements, provide products by one of the following: a. ABET Incorporated. b. Forbo Arborite. c. Formica Corporation. d. Laminart. e. Nevamar Decorative Surfaces. f. Pionoite Decorative Laminates. g. WilsonArt International. D. Tempered Float Glass for MW-2: GLASS-01T as specified in Section Glass in MW-2 is part of Scope for Section Provided glass with eased and polished edges for doors and shelves at MW-2. E. Metal Support Tubing for MW-3 General: Provide materials with smooth, flat surfaces, unless otherwise indicated. For metal fabrications exposed to view in completed Work, provide materials without seam marks, roller marks, rolled trade names, or blemishes. 1. Steel Support Tubing: ASTM A500, cold-formed steel tubing in size indicated on Drawings. 2. Universal Shop Primer: Fast-curing, lead- and chromate-free, universal modified-alkyd primer complying with MPI #79. INTERIOR ARCHITECTURAL WOODWORK OF 5 INTERIORS PACKAGE

3 2.3 CABINET HARDWARE AND ACCESSORIES A. General: Provide cabinet hardware and accessory materials associated with architectural woodwork, except for items specified in Section Door Hardware. B. Frameless Concealed Hinges (European Type): BHMA A156.9, B01602, 135 degrees of opening, self-closing. C. Wire Pulls: Back mounted, solid metal, 4 inches long, 5/16 inch in diameter D. Catches: Magnetic catches, BHMA A156.9, B E. Drawer Slides: BHMA A156.9, B Standard Duty (Grade 1, Grade 2, and Grade 3): Side mounted and extending under bottom edge of drawer; full-extension type; zinc-plated stee with polymer rollers. F. Keyboard Tray: Install Owner-furnished unit. G. Grommets for Cable Passage through Countertops: 2 inch OD, black, molded-plastic grommets and matching plastic caps with slot for wire passage. 1. Product: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide SG Series by Doug Mockett & Company, Inc. or approved substitution. H. Linear Diffusers (GRILL-1): Aluminum "pencil proof" bar grille, 7/32 inch bars, 7/16 inch spacing, zero degree deflection. For use at MW Border: Type 13 with Type A fastening. 2. Finish: No. 34 Clear anodized. 3. Acceptable Product: Model CT-PP-O by Titus or approved substitution. I. Standards (Pilasters) for Adjustable Shelf Supports for MW-2: 1. Quantities: Where indicated, provide the following quantities of parts: a. Adjustable Steel Standards 80A60: 3. b. Adjustable Steel Shelf Brackets 180A16: 6. c. Clear Acrylic Front Rest KV103P: 6. d. Tracks for Sliding Glass Doors for MW-2: Aluminum. Rolling track assembly consisting of lower rail, upper channel, H-bar, and wheel assembly. 1. Quantities: Where indicated, provide the following quantities of parts: a. Rolling Track Assembly - CTA00A: 1. b. End Cap for Sliding Door Lock SC: 1. c. H-Bar - DV144C: 1. d. Anti-Lift Clip 6306: 1. e. Pulls D643A: 3 inch pull with 7/16 inch lip for glass panel Acceptable Product: Satin Anodized Continental Style Security Rolling Track Assembly by C R Laurence Co. Inc. or approved substitution. K. Exposed Hardware Finishes: For exposed hardware, provide finish that complies with BHMA A for BHMA finish number indicated. 1. Bright Chromium Plated: BHMA 625 for brass or bronze base; BHMA 651 for steel base. 2.4 MISCELLANEOUS MATERIALS A. Adhesives, General: Do not use adhesives that contain urea formaldehyde. 4 2.5 FABRICATION A. General: Complete fabrication to maximum extent possible before shipment to Project site. Where necessary for fitting at site, provide allowance for scribing, trimming, and fitting. 1. Interior Woodwork Grade: Custom. 2. Shop cut openings to maximum extent possible. Sand edges of cutouts to remove splinters and burrs. Seal edges of openings in countertops with a coat of varnish. B. Plastic-Laminate Cabinets (MW-5): 1. AWI Type of Cabinet Construction: Flush overlay, unless otherwise indicated. 2. Laminate Cladding for Exposed Surfaces: High-pressure decorative laminate as follows: a. Horizontal Surfaces Other Than Tops: Grade HGS. b. Postformed Surfaces: Grade HGP. c. Vertical Surfaces: Grade VGS. d. Edges: PVC edge banding, 0.12 inch thick, matching laminate in color, pattern, and finish. 3. Materials for Semiexposed Surfaces Other Than Drawer Bodies: Thermoset decorative panels. 4. Drawer Sides and Backs: Thermoset decorative panels. 5. Drawer Bottoms: Thermoset decorative panels. 6. Colors, Patterns, and Finishes: As selected by Architect from laminate manufacturer's full range of colors, patterns, and finishes. C. Plastic-Laminate Countertops: Provide countertops with backsplashes unless indicated otherwise. 1. High-Pressure Decorative Laminate Grade: HGS. 2. Colors, Patterns, and Finishes: As selected by Architect from laminate manufacturer's full range of colors, patterns, and finishes. 3. Edge Treatment: Same as laminate cladding on horizontal surfaces or hardware edges where indicated on Drawings. 4. Core Material at Sinks: MDF-2. D. Window Sills (MW-4): Single piece construction unless recommended otherwise by manufacturer. 1. Substrate: MDF Thickness: 3/4 inch thick unless indicated otherwise. 3. Ease exposed edges. 4. Square corners. 5. Seal perimeter joint where stool abuts vertical surface. a. Sealant specified in Section SHOP FINISHING A. Finish architectural woodwork at fabrication shop. Defer only final touchup, cleaning, and polishing until after installation. B. Backpriming: Apply 1 coat of sealer or primer, compatible with finish coats, to concealed surfaces of woodwork. Apply 2 coats to back of paneling. C. Transparent Finish: Apply the following finish to hardwood edges where indicated. 1. Grade: Custom. 2. AWI Finish System: Conversion varnish. 3. Staining: None required. 4. Sheen: Satin, 31 to 45 gloss units measured on 60-degree gloss meter per ASTM D523, unless indicated otherwise. INTERIOR ARCHITECTURAL WOODWORK OF 5 INTERIORS PACKAGE

5 PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 INSTALLATION A. Before installation, condition woodwork to average prevailing humidity conditions in installation areas. Examine shop-fabricated Work for completion and complete Work as required, including removal of packing and backpriming. B. Grade: Install woodwork to comply with requirements for the same grade specified in Part 2 for fabrication of type of woodwork involved. C. Install woodwork level, plumb, true, and straight to a tolerance of 1/8 inch in 96 inches. Shim as required with concealed shims. D. Scribe and cut woodwork to fit adjoining Work, refinish cut surfaces, and repair damaged finish at cuts. E. Anchor woodwork to anchors or blocking built in or directly attached to substrates. Secure with countersunk, concealed fasteners and blind nailing as required for complete installation. Use fine finishing nails for exposed fastening, countersunk and filled flush with woodwork and matching final finish if transparent finish is indicated. F. Cabinets: Install without distortion so doors and drawers fit openings properly and are accurately aligned. Adjust hardware to center doors and drawers in openings and to provide unencumbered operation. 1. Fasten wall cabinets through back, near top and bottom, at ends and not more than 16 inches on center with fasteners appropriate for anchoring to structure. G. Countertops: Anchor securely by screwing through corner blocks of base cabinets or other supports into underside of countertop. 1. Install countertops with no more than 1/8 inch in 96 inch sag, bow, or other variation from a straight line. 2. Secure backsplashes to tops with concealed metal brackets at 16 inches on center. 3.
