Be sure that you are choosing the correct Class for your exhibit. Not more than three entries from the same person in any one Class, please. 5 What s New In The Show This Year? We have an exciting number of additions and amendments this year, emboldened in this Schedule. A few classes have been removed according to our policy of discontinuing classes which have not received any entries for the past three years. There have been a number of changes in Handicrafts, particularly in the Junior section, where we have Included new classes for towel origami, papier mache, nail art and a blog/journal entry. We have split the Lego classes into from a kit and not from a kit classes at the judge s suggestion. In the Adult Handicrafts an innovative new group class is a PE4 Business display using materials from the business. Also, a nursery display decoration has been added in Adult needlework so non-baby-safe exhibits can now be entered. In Cookery we have added an Afternoon Tea with a 10 first prize, along the same lines as the Gardener of the Year class. In addition, there are new classes for Battenberg cake, drip cake and cooked pizza; with decorated biscuits and cookies in the Junior section We have included classes for selfies with filters in Photography, pictures or drawings in any media in Art, and Pot et Fleur in Floral Design, Entries in Photography must now have been taken in the last year, since the last Show Please look on our website for up-to-date information, for posters advertising the Show and to download the colouring pictures in Junior Art; and don t forget to Like Us on facebook Werrington Show. 25 Formed in 1937, the ladies of the Werrington Women s Institute meet on the third Thursday of every month in the village centre, Church Street. The WI was formed just over 100 years ago and the intention was to teach young wives the skills needed to run a house. These days, the WI offers friendship and support for its 220,000 members in the UK while championing some amazing causes both locally and nationally. Some of the causes the WI have backed include organ donation, more midwives, plight of the honey bee, renewable energy, fair prices for milk farmers, plastic soup, aids awareness and 100 years ago we were a fighting force behind votes for women. Werrington Women s Institute The WI has been highlighted in the background of a few films and TV programs do you remember Jam and Jerusalem, Home Fires and, most famously, Calendar Girls? You re probably thinking we re a bunch of elderly ladies who like to drink tea, knit jumpers and bake cakes. In reality some of us are young ladies who like to do all of those, and we have some more mature ladies who like to have a go at belly dancing and try a few cocktails! Every month we have something different to entertain and inform us. In the last 12 months alone we have learnt about Peterborough Food Bank and donated around 10 carrier bags of products to them, had lessons in belly dancing followed by a variety of kebabs, had a presentation and talk about raising a herd of alpacas, fed the good people of Werrington via our coffee mornings and produce stall at the carnival, learnt different crafts including flower arranging, crochet and ribbon embroidery, learnt how to relax with reiki, challenged our brain cells with a Round The World Quiz complete with tasters from many of the countries, and nibbled our way through numerous pickles, preserves, sandwiches, bakes and savouries. We always welcome new ladies coming to spend the evening with us your first visit is free and after that you can pay a nominal fee on the night or pay your subs to join us until the end of the year. To find out more about us or get in touch you can visit our Facebook page at or speak to any of us on the day of the Werrington Show we re usually there in force helping to set things up, entering our makes and even forming part of the judging team!
