Billy Moore provided a quality presentation which brought forth many questions from our chapter. 2 A Backward Glance The Month of April is a very special one; it is the time for Daylight Savings Time, Spring time, Easter and CRC. There is a indescribable feeling about this time of year when the flowers and trees are waking from their winter sleep and the construction industry is eagerly looking forward to times of warm fair weather. The first CRC that I ever went to was in San Antonio, Texas. We stayed at the Manger Hotel that was right across the street from the Alamo in the very middle of the downtown area. There were many interesting things to do; a nice dance was held, the president s luncheon was fun, and the committee meetings were interesting. The highlight of the CRC for me was the period at the end of the business meeting when speakers from the floor were invited to come forward and express what they felt would be of interest to the group. The presentation I remember most was one given that expressed concern about how our industry was going to cope with the great changes that were happening around us, the great shifts in the way business would be conducted, and the great push to get things done faster and faster. I understood the concern of the speaker then and I still that what he said is true even today. This year s CRC is being held in Fort Worth Texas. This is the city where the west begins, because when it was still an army post only, it was officially where The West started. There are many neat things to do and see in Fort Worth and it is one of my favorite cities in Texas. (Don t miss the water gardens downtown, the stockyard district, the botanical gardens, or the zoo. Six Flags is kinda nice too.) CRC is a time when engineers can get together and share ideas. It is a time when old acquaintances can get together to renew friendships. It is a time to renew why we care so much about this industry in which we work. If you have never been to a CRC, try to go to this one. I think you will remember it for a long time. 4 Submitted By: Gary Patrick April 4, 2013 The Shreveport Chapter Board of Governors (BOG) meeting was held on April 4, 2013, at Storer Services. Attendees: Corey Wilson, Aaron Storer, Gary Patrick, Paul King Chapter President called the meeting to order at 3:00 pm. Treasurer: (Gary Patrick) Chapter will be able to award $500 this year to a qualified LaTech engineering student. Check will be available to present at CRC once golf tournament funds are deposited. CTTC: (Aaron Storer) April meeting will be at Storer conference room via Webinar. Paul King (Student Activities): Working with Gary to award scholarship. School of Engineering shall help develop qualifications. Research Promotion: Golf tournament enrollment website is back up. Credit card payments are available but not easily processed. Two/Three more teams expected to sign up on last week. CRC: Corey and Aaron will be attending CRC in Austin on April The meeting was adjourned at 3:25 pm.
