June, July and August are a time to concentrate on being out, having fun and enjoying your interests in photography. Regular meetings resume in September. 2
3 BASIC PHOTOGRAPHY COURSE presented by Lee Dygert After 40 plus years of photography, in my review of the entire course I found many things I didn't know, many things I did know, and some things that I just do automatically and now I know why I am doing them....i have watched this course three times. It is a basic beginning and refresher course with each subject projected using several visual aids. The entire course is 14 videos and we will begin with the first four at the May pre-meeting class. Bring your camera. The videos are based on Canon and Nikon for the most part, but will be useful to everyone. There will also be a short question and answer session. 1. The Camera Introductory tour of all the major features of the camera. Get a beginner's introduction to the anatomy and functions of your DSLR camera. Not only will you learn how your DSLR works the instructor will explain the differences and anatomy of Point and Shoots, Mirror less, and even cell phones 2. The Shutter Understand how the shutter works, and learn how you can use different shutter speeds to control the amount of light that comes into the camera. The part I liked in this video is where he lines up every speed possible and shows you a image that corresponds to the speed. 3. The Sensor In digital photography, the sensor is what reads and processes the light that comes in when the shutter is open. Learn how this works and why it is so important. Learn the difference between sensor sizes good and the bad of it. 4. ISO In film photography, ISO means film speed. In digital photography, we can change the ISO on the fly and adjust our camera's sensitivity to light. Used correctly, this is a powerful tool in a photographer's arsenal. ISO in today's digital terms is how much sensitivity do you want the sensor to have. Just like in the shutter video visual examples are given of different ISO's and what the result you can expect. My hope is that I will be able to show the rest of the series after summer break and as time permits. The future video subjects are, The Lens, Aperture and Depth of Field, Focusing, Metering, Exposure Modes, Settings and Workflow, Light, Flash, Composition, and Steps of Photography. 3
4 There will be several opportunities to get together with our MBCC friends and enjoy some summer photo activities.
