2 Minutes of the September 13 th, 2018 Meeting Call to order at 6:45 and meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance. Welcome given to our new officers: Donna Theiss Vice President and Tina Mickelson Treasurer. Four guests were introduced by Lindy Backus and Anne Sinkula. Donna Theiss introduced our speaker, Chris Kirsch who presented a very interesting talk on Gradation Play and had a large trunk show to show us examples of gradating colors to highlight dark and light, causing movement in our quilts. Show and tell was then presented by many of our guild members. A brief social followed, giving time to look at quilt samples from the speaker and partake of wonderful snacks brought in by our September hostesses. BUSINESS MEETING Secretaries Report: Motion made to accept secretaries report by Pam Posvic and seconded by Mary Kempf. Motion carried. Treasurers Report: Motion to accept made by Sue Druschke and seconded by Carol DeGroot. Motion carried. A thank you from the Guild was given to outgoing board members, Rosalie Miller and Mary Kempf, and outgoing officers Julie Puestow, vice president and Julie Klump, treasurer. Due to Julie Klump holding the office of treasurer for a total of 6 years, a gift of a quilt and pillowcase was presented to Julie by Sue Druschke. The new membership booklets were handed out to members. Any corrections that need to be made please let Peggy Valitchka know so they can be posted in newsletter. There are some vacancies on committees. We need nominating committee volunteers. We have a nice group on the charity committee but need 1 or 2 people to chair it. Also we need hostesses for March. Review of the operating budget was done at the recent board meeting in August. Budget presented and motion made by Herb Benedum and seconded by Kay Rusch to accept the current budget. Motion carried. Highlights of the board meeting was presented by President Lindy Backus. General consensus that we need to promote our guild and all the projects we do. A Facebook page will be set up by Tina Mickelson and discussion was held on joining the Manitowoc/Two Rivers Tourist and Convention Bureau for the cost of $150.00/year. This would entitle us to put a rack card in their building and also an ad would be placed in their 2019 tourism booklet. The booklet is placed in tourist centers near our state borders. Also informational material packets are sent to tourists who request information and sent to people moving into the area. Motion made by Kay Olker and seconded by Sue DuPont. Motion carried. 4 Un Bee lieveable Quilts!!!A Patch of Lakeshore Quilters 2019 Quilt Show April 6 th and 7 th The challenge this show will be an Initial challenge Quilt Show Challenge Quilt Using your initials, choose colors that begin with that letter and a pattern/block name that also starts with one of your name s letters. Here are a couple of examples of how this works using my name, Julie A. Klumpp. J Juniper or J Jade Patten/block Jacob s Ladder A Amethyst or A Apple Green Pattern/Block Attic Window K Kelly Green or K Khaki Patten/block Kings Highway or Kansas Troubles You aren t limited to only those 3 colors, but they should be easily identifiable in your project. We d like your challenge item to be a wall hanging size or smaller so that we can keep them all in one bay at the show. It doesn t have to be a quilt, it could be a purse, table runner, book cover, etc. You decide. Some of us have unusual letters for our initials, so be descriptive with your color names. Why have just BROWN when you can have Espresso, Coffee, or Chocolate. You get the idea. For those of us that use the internet, Spycolor.com provides color names. QuiltingCompany.com/free-quilt-block-patterns-library-from-mccalls-quilting provides free quilt block patterns in alphabetical order and includes instructions. There are many websites to browse for inspiration. Most of us also have books and magazines to explore. When you submit your entry we d like a 2 square of each Initial fabric and the name of your quilt pattern/ block to include in the description. Thank you, Donna Theiss Julie Klumpp Sylvia Windstein Sue Druschke Quilt Show Committee Meeting Notes Charity Booth/Basket Raffle:.The theme of the charity booth will be Pin Cushions to Pillows. To raise money for the designated charity, the guild will sell decorator pillows and pin cushions with specialty pins. A workshop is being held Saturday, November 3 rd to make pin cushions. In June a large number of pillow forms were donated to the guild. These have been distributed among member to use for the decorator pillow sale. More pillows are needed. We will be collecting fat quarter donations from guild members for the show basket raffle. A basket will be at the guild meeting head table for your fat quarters. Anne Sinkula
