ACADEMY CLUB This is a club designed for quilters to get together and work through the Harriet Hargrave Quilter s Academy books. These books and techniques are perfect for anyone just starting to quilt and even better for those who feel they would like to improve their skills. If you are just getting started I suggest you attend our beginning quilt class as we use many of her techniques on a warm wishes quilt pattern. To learn this technique it is best to start with four applique squares. The appliqué squares are 7 1/2 in size. This sample above has 4 squares on one large background. Supply List for 4 Hearts Fabric for applique squares 1/4 yd. of four colors. Pink and Purple are shown above Fabric for background 1 yd. (light color) 1 yd. Wonder-under or any fusible paper-backed web Sharp scissors and pencil An iron, a protective applique sheet, so your iron stays clean I will also have two of them with me 12 ½ square ruler, a 6 x 24 long ruler, rotary cutter, cutting mat Sewing machine (optional) with zigzag foot, I have used a blanket stitch, and a zigzag stitch with decorative thread around all of the raw edge appliqué. We might get to use the sewing machine in the afternoon. If you have done this technique before, you could be doing the machine appliqué later in the day. Each student will receive individualized help from Lynne. Basic Sewing techniques will be demonstrated and shared with the whole class.

There is a waiting list and once we have a spot for you we will require a $35 deposit to hold your place. Call the shop to be put on the waiting list.

13 CLASSES CLUBS CAFES BASIC SEWING 1, 2 3 and 4 Lynne will explain how to select and read a pattern, purchase the proper fabric for your project, and how to prepare it before sewing. In class you lay out your fabric and cut out the pattern. Then you will sew your project learning and using different stitches on your sewing machine. Each student will receive individualized help from Lynne. Basic Sewing techniques will be demonstrated and shared with the whole class. If you do not own a machine, we have machines for you to use in class and we can help you choose which machine is best for you. The series is 4 weeks and the cost is $70. Basic Sewing Supply List (classes 2-4) Scissors designated for fabric cutting only (keep your older scissors to cut out the pattern/paper) Glass-head pins (metal approx. 1 1/4 ) with pincushion or magnetic holder. Fine-pointed seam ripper. Seam guide and other small rulers for measuring fabric and pattern pieces. Needles - appropriate for fabric chosen for sewing project. Thread - appropriate for fabric chosen for sewing project. Blow-Off for cleaning sewing machine. Fabric markers (either chaulkers or fabric pens) Point turner. If bringing your own sewing machine please be sure to bring your manual and all parts. All these items above can be purchased at SEW Hut with a student discount* Remember: Wash and dry your fabric as you would a finished item - 2x - 3x flannel. Buy a pattern marked easy to sew, quick, sewing for dummies, etc. (McCall s, Simplicity, Butterick are pattern names to look at) Buy a pattern based on your true measurement (bust/tops - hip/bottoms) Check back of pattern for fabric choices and notions needed. Make sure if you ve chosen a knit fabric the pattern is appropriate or if you ve chosen a non-stretch fabric the pattern is also appropriate. Do NOT buy knit fabrics or fabrics that need to be matched (e.g. plaids stripes, large or one-way prints) BEGINNING QUILTING Let s start from the very beginning, a very good place to start Just learning to quilt? Or maybe you have been quilting for awhile and were self taught, come learn the finer points, from folding, pressing and cutting to piecing your quilt top. Tips on achieving a better quarter inch seam allowance and more. Find out what tools can make your quilting easier and more accurate. COMPUTER SEMINAR Computer Seminar: Multi-hoop, cont d for students who took Nov class. We will take the large design into the software and set it up for multihooping. Then stitch it out on the embroidery machine. Due to space restrictions we may have to partner up and have 2 students per machine.
