1 Patchwork Volume 6, Issue 08 April 1, 2016 Message from the President Hello Ladies! Just a quick note as I m a bit late with this.lots of company this year so far. Just a reminder that we still have a few openings for the April Retreat so let Colleen or Millie know ASAP if you are interested. As well, I hope you are giving some thought to volunteering for one of our positions available for next fall. If you are new to the Guild, it s a great way to get to know the members and if you are not exactly new - well then we sure can use your experience! We will also be continuing our book sale from last month. So far we have made close to $200. I m hoping the nice weather sticks around so you can all get to the meeting on April 13th. See you then. 8 MULTIPLE USES OF FREEZER PAPER FREEZER PAPER that wonderful stuff you can find in your grocery store. Buy good quality freezer paper REYNOLDS is the best FREEZER PAPER is great for appliqué. Trace quilting designs onto the dull side of the paper, cut it out & iron shiny side onto the fabric. Cut out the fabric around the design, allowing 1/4 seam allowance. Fold the fabric seam allowance under the freezer paper & press. Remove paper and stitch appliqué onto the background fabric. FREEZER PAPER can be used for paper piecing. FREEZER PAPER templates for hand sewing. Make Grandmothers Flower Garden blocks. Print a sheet of hexagons on freezer paper, cut them apart & iron them to the wrong side of your appliqué piece. Iron the edges over the paper & you will have a nice sharp edge for whip stitching. FREEZER PAPER can be run through your ink jet printer (not a laser printer). Set your printer to accept heavy paper, feed the sheets one at a time. To keep if from curling you can cut it a day or two ahead of time & put it under something heavy to flatten it; or iron it flat (shiny side down) on a Teflon pressing sheet; or iron it to a piece of copy paper and put the combination through your printer. Ironing two pieces together may work as well. It s best to pull them apart while they are still warm. FREEZER PAPER can also help you to print on fabric. For example, if you would like to personalize your labels, you can iron your freezer paper to the wrong side of the fabric but cut the fabric just shy of 8 1/2 x 11 so that stray threads do not get caught in the printer. Print your label on the fabric. The freezer paper gives the fabric just enough body to go through the printer as if it were a piece of paper.

Sunday because of the revised ferry schedule which makes a Saturday date difficult. A catered lunch will be served. PROGRAM Our theme is PRESERVING THE PAST It will include a merchants mall, white elephant table, guest speaker, gifts and a number of draws. CHALLENGE A quilt which expresses our challenge theme Preserving the Past. The quilt should be a minimum of 20 to a maximum of 40. Use colour and fabrics you love and embellish as you wish. A prize will be awarded to the viewer s choice. See this news letter for the challenge block. They will be divided up and become draws dependent upon the number of blocks submitted. RSVP by May 15, 2016 $15.00 per person
