NOTE: 1. WRST indicates With Right Sides Together. 2. All seams are 14 unless otherwise indicated. 3. To reduce bulk in the seams wouldn't recommend serging the seams. Lightly mark off the shape of the collar with a pencil on a 8 x8 square of the white batiste. Place in an embroidery hoop and embroider the design provided with this pattern. After the embroidery is completed press then cut out collar. B. Lightly mark off the dress skirt. Place the section to be embroidered in the embroidery hoop. When the embroidery is completed press then cut out the skirt. Remember to cut out lower armholes. SEE PATTERN. DRESS CONSTRUCTON: 1. WRST sew the yoke front to the yoke back at the shoulder seams. Repeat the same procedure for the yoke lining. 2. WRST sew the yoke and lining together at the neck and down the back. 3. Gather 34 yd. of the 12 flat lace and sew to the skirt bottom. Place lace right side up 14 above the skirt edge. With a narrow zigzag stitch sew along the straight edge of the lace. Press excess fabric seam up away from the lace then zigzag again over previous stitching. Trim away excess seam on the under side. Double stitching makes the seam stronger and prevents fabric and lace from separating. SEE DAGRAM A. 4. WRST sew the center back seam t6 the dot. Slit each armhole along the solid line. 5. Sew two rows of gathering stitches across the skirt top. 6. Pull up gathering threads on the skirt to fit the yoke. pin and sew skirt to the yoke leaving the lining free. Turn under the yoke lining and hand stitch to the skirt and yoke seam. 7. Sew two rows of gathering threads across the sleeve top. 8. Narrow hem each sleeve edge then sew 38 flat cotton lace to the edge of each sleeve. 9. Stretch and zigzag the 18 elastic on each sleeve. SEE PATTERN FOR PLACEMENT. 10. Pull up gathering threads to fit the armholes. Pin and sew sleeves to the armholes. 11. WRST sew the sleeve and skirt underarm dart. 12. Sew small buttons and snaps on the dress back yoke. OPTONAL: gather 7 of the 38 lace and whip stitch to the neck edge. Turning under the lace about 14 on each end hand tack ends in place. SLP CONSTRUCTON: 13. WRST sew the bodice front to the bodice back at the shoulder seams. Repeat the same procedure for the lining. 14. WRST sew the lining to the bodice at the neck down the backs and around the armholes. Trim seams to 18. To turn the bodice pull the backs through the shoulders. WRST sew the side bodice seams and the lining seams. 15. WRST sew the center back seam to the dot. 16. Sew two rows of gathering stitches across the skirt top. Pull up gathering threads to fit the bodice. Pin and sew the skirt to the bodice leaving the bodice lining free. Whip stitch the lining to the bodice at the skirt and bodice seam line. Sew 12 flat lace to the skirt bottom. Place lace right side up 14 above the skirt edge. With a narrow zigzag stitch sew lace then zigzag again over previous stitching. Trim away excess seam on the under side. 17. Sew snaps to the back bodice. PAGE 1 of4

2 PANTES CONSTRUCTON: 18. WRST sew the center front and the center back seams. 19. WRST sew the side seams. 20. Turn down the waist casing and machine stitch leaving an opening for inserting the elastic. nsert 5 of the 18 elastic lapping ends. Machine stitch the opening closed 21. Turn up the leg casings and machine stitch in place. Stitch the 38 flat lace to the edges of each leg casings. nsert 2 34 of the 18 elastic in each leg. Anchor the ends in the seam allowance. 22. WRST sew the crotchlinseam DETACHABLE COLLAR CONSTRUCTON: 23. WRST sew the collar and collar lining together around the neck and outer edge. Leave opening between the dots for ease of turning. Trim seams to 18 turn and press. 24. Gather 15 of the 38 flat lace and hand stitch to the edge of the collar or attach the lace to the collar with a faggoting stitch. A good source for this stitch can be found in a sewing manual sold at most fabric shops. 25. Sew a small snap at the neck edge. DAGRAM A Press excess seam away from lace. l -' Wrong Side.... 5 GENERAL PANTNG TECHNQUE AS DONE BY DONNA RUBERT FY After the initial mixing of Watersilks #2 with the dry paint only use water to thin my paint. The only other time use Watersilks #2 is after washing my brush. dip my clean brush into Watersilks #2 then blot. This is more to get the water out of my brush than it is to add medium. When mixing two colors of paint always mix each color separately then pull a small amount of one c%r into the other color; then mix completely. Unless otherwise stated mix paints to the consistency of toothpaste. When refer to antiquing a piece that means putting color in the creases or low points of the piece (i.e.: behind the knees in the bend of the arms between the fingers and toes etc.) On a head antiquing would be done under the chin behind the ears in the ears around the nose in the space between the nose and the upper lip and in each nostril etc.. When blush blush put paint on the high points on the piece (i.e. the knees the back of the hands the elbows the knuckles etc.) On the head blush the cheeks chin forehead and hairline etc. Clean greenware as usual beveling the eyes to the proper size. FRE TO A TRUE CONE Coat head sp arms legs and with Watersilks #2. Wipe back with T-shirt material until there is a soft sheen. 2. Mix the antiquing color with Watersilks #2. Paint the fingernails and toenails with the antique color then blot so just a hint of color is on the nail bed. Apply and smooth out the antique color in the creases of the sp arms and legs. Use a china mop to even out the color. -Reminder- antiquing is always done in the low paints of a piece. 3. Mix the eyelid color with Watersilks #2. Apply the eyelid color and even out using a cosmetic Q-tip. apply the lip crease of the mouth. With a square shader pull the color out just a little an make several lip lines on the lips. This color is not done heavy. Apply the antiquing to the head. Use china mop to even out color. FRE HEAD SP ARMS LEGS TO A TRUE CONE Coat entire head with Watersilks #2. Wipe back with T-shirt material until there is a soft sheen. 5. Mix eyelash color with Watersilks #1. Apply lower lashes that are short straight and close together. They should not be heavy. 6. Mix eyebrow color with Watersilks #1. Brush in single hairs of brows. The eyebrows should look natural avoid long and heavy strokes. Children's brows should not be perfect. 7. Mix the lip color with Watersilks #2. Paint the lips making sure you go to and follow the lip line. Soften the outer lip with a Q-tip. Be sure there is no harsh line of paint left on the lip line. FRE TO A TRUE CONE Coat head sp arms and legs with Watersilks #2. Wipe back with T-shirt material to a soft sheen. 9. Mix nail color with Waters ilks #2. Paint a nail tip and a half moon (half moon is at the base of each nail) on each finger and toenail. This should be done very light. You want just a hint of color to look natural. 10. Mix blush color with Watersilks #2. Using your forefinger apply the blush color to cheeks chin temple forehead hairline knuckles knees toes etc. Even out the color with a china mop. -Reminder- When blushing always put paint on the high points. When you are satisfied with the color intensity FRE TO A TRUE CONE Coat head with Watersilks #2. Wipe back with T-shirt material. 12. With the eyebrow color take a Q-tip and scrub the color on top of the fired on brows. Use a clean Q-tip and soften the color until it appears like a light shadow under the brow hairs. With the eyelash color shade over the lower lashes the same way; softening out the color at the lower edge away from the eye opening. f there is a second color on the eyelid now is the time to apply it. Be sure to stay away from the eyebrow color you just applied. 13. Mix the lip accent color with Watersilks #2. Accent the fullest part of the center of the lower lip. Accent the fullest part of the upper lip (the milk lip). Doing this makes a hot spot of color on the lips. 14. Mix the cheek accent color with Watersilks #2. Blush the top half of the already blushed cheek area with the cheek accent color. Applying this color makes a hot spot of color on the cheeks. FRE TO A TRUE CONE With the eyebrowleyelash color paint accent hairs on the brows and the lower lashes. Accent hairs are extra hairs to fill in or put on top of shading done in Step f the head has teeth (and you are painting them with china paint) mix teeth color with Watersilks #2 and paint the teeth. Be sure you don1 get any of this color on the lips. 17. Check the color intensity on all of your pieces. f you need more color anywhere now is the time to intensify your colors. f you are completely satisfied with your work FRE TO A TRUE CONE The final step is to apply a no-fire sealer on the lips and teeth. The sealer should be thinned with water to cut the gloss somewhat. Note: This sealer can be removed with alcohol when it is completely dry.
