But I have found a way to deal with them and reduce the quilt projects on my long list of Projects to Do. Method #1: I had finished blocks that no longer interested me. I put them on the "free table" and someone used half of them to make a nice community quilt. That potential project was marked "gone" on my list. Method #2: I had cut pieces from several fabrics for another quilt project. I looked at the description of what I had in mind years ago and found it boring. So I put the cut pieces in my "pieces" collection and put the bigger pieces in separate color boxes and marked it "abandoned" on my list. Method #3: I dug out cut squares for a large and complicated idea for another quilt. I cringed when I dumped them on the table. It was all 9" purple squares. I put about half of them in the purple scrap box and will put the remaining 4 or so dozen squares together for a charm quilt. I didn't completely abandon the blocks, just made a more manageable project. Method #4: I had some fabrics I liked, but together they were really blah. So I put all of them on the "free table" and I didn't have to take any home. That was another project marked off as "gone". Cheryl messed up another "abandoned" project when she offered suggestions for a quilt top I showed in April. She took it home to "square up", which I had been unable to do. SO I guess I'll have to keep that on my list. Columbine Quilters April 1, 2017 Welcome: Nancy called the meeting to order at 9:30. Minutes: were approved as printed. Check the web site for more information. Carolyn Cassidy will take appointments for Quilt appraisals by Bobbi Aug...checks covering the fee will not be cashed until the week of the show. Thank you for the tip Janorah F. of Manzanola, CO! ****************************************************************************************** Local Quilt Shop Featured in Better Homes and Gardens Quilt Sampler Magazine CORTEZ, CO Cortez Quilt Company, a quilt and yarn shop in Cortez, Colorado has been chosen as one of the 10 featured shops from across the United States for the Spring/Summer, 2017 issue of Quilt Sampler magazine, published by Better Homes and Gardens. Quilt Sampler, published twice a year, has been profiling North American's top quilt shops for 22 years. Competition to be included in Quilt Sampler is keen. Nearly 3,000 quilt shops are eligible to apply for the honor. Cortez Quilt Company, along with nine other chosen shops, were photographed and interviewed by a team from Quilt Sampler for the multipage feature article in the magazine that will be on newsstands May 16, Each shop also designs an original quilt, the pattern for which appears in the magazine. The quilt designed by Cortez Quilt Company's owner, Karen Childress, will be hanging at the International Quilt Market in St. Louis, Missouri, in May. Afterward, the quilt will be displayed in the shop in Cortez, where kits and copies of the magazine will be available for purchase. "It has been a goal since I opened in 2011 to be featured in Quilt Sampler," said Childress. "I credit my great staff and loyal customers for making this business successful. Being chosen as a top 10 shop by this magazine is the reward for a lot of hard work on the part of a lot of people." Sewing Machine Service & Repair Marc Chilianis has stepped up to fill a void and need in the Montrose area. Sewing machine repair and service. Marc is excited to help our community and has already begun, with many satisfied customers. You can bring your machine into Ladybugz and drop it off and after Marc is done servicing your machine he will bring it back to Ladybugz for you to pick up. Adobe Sharpening

4 Floyd & Cathy Wortman have been sharpening scissors and knives in Montrose for many years. Now it may be easier for you to have your scissors sharpened. You can bring them to Ladybugz and drop them off and then pick them up here after they are sharpened. Google "Leah Day". She has several videos on "Quilt as you Go" block by block. FYI Barb Cencich is the care taker of the batting for community serve quilts. Just give her call or and she can cut you a piece and bring it to the meeting for you.

5 German Potato Salad INGREDIENTS 9 potatoes, peeled 6 slices bacon 3/4 cup chopped onions 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour 2 tablespoons white sugar 2 teaspoons salt 1/2 teaspoon dill seed 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper 3/4 cup water 1/3 cup distilled white vinegar DIRECTIONS 1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add potatoes and cook until tender but still firm, about 30 minutes. Drain, cool and slice thin. 2. Place bacon in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium high heat until evenly brown. Drain, crumble and set aside, reserving drippings. 3. Sauté onions in bacon drippings until they are golden-brown. 4. In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, salt, dill seed, and pepper. Add to the sautéed onions and cook and stir until bubbly, then remove from heat. Stir in water and vinegar, then return to the stove and bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Boil and stir for one minute. Carefully stir bacon and sliced potatoes into the vinegar/water mixture, stirring gently until potatoes are heated through. This works best if potatoes are cool or almost cold
