2 GENERAL RULES 1. You must be a paid member in good standing of Block Party Quilters to enter the show. 2. Each member may submit 3 quilted items. Entries in the categories of Challenge, Miniature, Wearable/Home Accessory, or Exhibit Only will not be included in the 3-items limit. 3. Quilted items must have been finished within the last two years and have been worked on by a BPQ member. Unless entered in the Exhibit Only category, items cannot have been entered in a previous BPQ show. 4. Entry deadline is September Entries will be accepted only through the online entry system. 6. A completed entry form must be submitted for each item entered, including challenge quilts. 7. All items must have a label (can be temporary). This label must include the full name of the BPQ member entering the item in the show. 8. Indicate the top of your item clearly if there is a directional top (can be a temporary note). 9. Reasonable precautions for the care, safety, and security of all quilted items will be taken, but BPQ is not responsible for any loss of or damage to items entered in the show. 10. The Traditional, Mixed Techniques, Contemporary/Art, and Appliqué categories will each be divided into Solo (constructed and quilted by one person) and All Others (any combination of construction and completion done by two or more people) subcategories. The division within categories and subcategories for size (small, medium, large) will be made based on the total number of quilts in each category. 11. To be considered for a ribbon for quilting (hand or machine categories), the quilting must have been done by a BPQ member. 12. Awards for the stated categories will be selected by the public. Awards for quilting will be selected by the BPQ membership. Award ribbons will be presented at the awards banquet during the guild meeting on December 2.
3 CHALLENGE This year s challenge is Talking Trash. Create quilted wall hangings from recycled material old drapes, clothing, linens, or other pre-used fabric, orphaned blocks or cut up quilts. You are encouraged to use non-traditional materials such as dryer sheets, grocery bags, tissue paper, produce netting as well. Maximum size is 120 circumference. The backing, binding, and batting may be new. All General Rules also apply to challenge quilts. Challenge quilts do not count toward a member s 3-items limit. Challenge quilts must be dropped off and picked up from the Challenge Chair. If you have questions about the challenge, contact Nancy Cluts at or at nancycluts@hotmail.com. OWN YOUR OWN We are excited to introduce a new feature this year called Own Your Own. You are invited to donate small quilts (less than 100 circumference) to BPQ which we will sell at the quilt show for affordable prices. The small quilts can be as simple or elaborate as you like and can be a wall hanging or other small quilted items such as potholders, table runners, small handbags, or Christmas stockings just so long as it does not exceed 100 around the perimeter. We ask that wall hangings have hanging sleeves or loops attached to the back and that all items have a label with at least your name on it. Holidaythemed items are encouraged. Perri DeMeritt, the Own Your Own coordinator, will collect these items each month at the guild meetings. This is a great opportunity to get your creative juices flowing. Want to try some machine appliqué? Do you have orphan blocks in need of a good home? Assemble them, attach a binding and a hanging sleeve, and we ll sell them to benefit BPQ! Representatives from the quilt show committee will price the items according to set price points. If your donated item does not sell during the quilt show, it will be returned to you. Questions? Contact Perri at or at perrijo@gmail.com. GETTING HELP WITH YOUR ENTRY If you need help completing your entry on line, please contact Peggy Sperry at bpqweb@bpquilters.org.
4 TO ENTER THE SHOW At the BPQ website, go to the 2010 Quilt Show page. Click on Online Quilt Show Entry and fill out the on-screen form. Please complete one form for EACH of your items (including challenge entries). You will need to provide the following information either by typing it on the form or by choosing from a drop-down menu: Name City (where you reside) Are you a BPQ Member (yes or no) Phone Youth quilter you are sponsoring (if applicable) Drop-off location (Choose one from the list. Challenge quilts must be delivered to the Challenge Chair.) Quilted item s name Width and length of item Is the item two-sided i.e., do both sides need to be displayed (yes or no) Did you make the quilt top AND quilt the item (yes or no) If you did not do the quilting, enter name of who did. (BPQ reserves the right to edit for grammar and length.) Acknowledge the book, pattern, design, teacher, or class that inspired your item (if applicable) Choose a category for your item (See the definitions on the next page or click on Categories and Definitions on the entry form). Also choose an alternate category (or second choice category) in the event your first choice category is eliminated due to, for example, a general lack of entries in that category. (If you have questions or need help deciding what category is appropriate for your item, please contact Shauna Nicoletti at quiltshow@bpquilters.org.) Enter price if the item is for sale. BPQ requests authorization to use images of your items for promotional purposes (publicity and show CD). Please choose yes. When you complete the form, print a copy for your records and then press the Submit button; you will receive a thank you page.

7 BOUTIQUE This year our Quilt Show will again have its spectacular Boutique, and everyone is invited to participate. It s a great way for you to use your talent to earn some money while helping the guild at the same time (85% of the sale price goes to you and 15% to the guild). At the last show the boutique had sales over $4,300. For many attending our show, the boutique is the first stop. The boutique has a 10 by 40 space to display items on tables plus 50 of wall space. Start your handmade quilt-related items now! The quilt show s November date offers the chance to create original items for the perfect holiday gift. To participate, contact Daphne Maurer or Jean Whiteaker to get an identification number. You must put this ID number on each item that you bring. LET US KNOW HOLIDAY ITEMS NEED IDEAS? FABRIC WANTED! REMINDER as soon as possible what you are bringing so we are assured of a nice variety of items. we will have a full-size lighted Christmas tree in the Boutique. We would love to have it LOADED with ornaments or any holiday item that can be hung from a bough. Pincushions, wearables, pins, sewing and quilting aids, potholders, tote bags, table runners, pillows, wall quilts, baby quilts, quilts, quilt tops, even UFO s, items somehow quilt related (painted quilts, paper note cards). Gather up what you no longer use cottons only and tie up with pretty ribbon. Mark the tag with the amount of yardage, price, and your identification number. You can use hang tags or stickers. Donate your old quilt books, quilt magazines, and patterns. Please, only intact magazines - not ones with pages torn out. Note: These are donations to BPQ. If you have other useful quilting-related items you no longer need or want you can also donate them. Everyone with items in the boutique is asked to serve a hostess shift in the boutique, whether you have one item or 100. This is mostly a sit-down job taking money from sales and also straightening and monitoring the tables. This shift is in addition to the shift required for the quilt show. QUESTIONS?
