1 HONOLULU EDITION President's Message Congratulations to Maegan Brandt and the Ways & Means Committee for a Fun, Fresh event that impressed all who were present! Jazz it up launched our EWI brand in a sophisticated fashion raising $17,355 for EWI Honolulu s General Fund. Banners, signage, VIP wine glasses & favors tastefully displayed the EWI logo. Guests sipped wine & beer tastings while enjoying incredible food selections prepared by the catering staff of Hawaii Convention Center. Dainty Keiko Matsui charmed the audience with beautiful notes on the piano while Jackiem Joyner enhanced the drummer s energy with soul from the saxophone. 3 Honolulu Chapter Board Meeting Highlights Announcements The Honolulu Chapter is the winner of a customized banner stand for recruiting the most new member firms from July 1 through December 31, Leianne Pedro won the individual award for successfully recruiting new member firms. Her name was pulled in a drawing and Leianne won $1,000 in cash. Treasurer s Report Membership approved $5,000 each for EWIAP/ASIST budget. After GET resolved, board discussed $10,000 each for EWISP/ASIST and $2,500 Philanthropy budget. A motion was made and seconded to accept the January 2012 disbursements outlined in the Board Meeting minutes. Committee Reports: ASIST Letters and scholarship applications were ed on January 13, 2012 to schools. The ASIST dinner will be held at Oahu Country Club. Michael Rota, Chancellor of HCC and Malia Paul, Deputy Chief of Staff for Lt. Governor Schatz are confirmed as judges for the event. The scholarship application is also posted on the EWI website. Communications and Marketing Cowabunga! Computers will be updating the membership listing on the website. EWISP The EWISP committee is still looking for a keynote speaker for the dinner. The deadline for the scholarship applications and notebooks was March 15, Mark your calendars for the EWISP Dinner on May 9, 2012, at Neal Blaisdell Center. The reading rally, scheduled in October, will focus on disadvantaged children at IHS or a homeless shelter. The Dress for Success clothing drive will be scheduled in conjunction with the ASIST dinner in July. Program April meeting changed to Thursday, April 12, 2012 at 3660 on the Rise due to the availability of national dynamic speaker, Darryl Turner. The August meeting is scheduled for a professional and business event at J Salon. Sergeant-at-Arms There were 29 representatives in attendance compared to last year s 30 members. Ways & Means Jazz-It Up Benefit Concert/Wine Tasting Reception The Jazz-It Up Benefit Concert featuring Saxophonist Michael Paulo, guest pianist Keiko Matsui and saxophonist Jackiem Joyer was scheduled on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at the Hawai'i Convention Center. Ticket prices were $ which included the pre-concert reception, open wine tasting/silent auction, and smooth jazz concert. Golf Tournament The expenses for last year s golf tournament totaled $11, There were a lot of items donated at last year s event. We will be reaching out to the membership for donations. Golf fees will remain the same, however; dinner prices may increase slightly. An additional $200 will be allotted in the budget for the dinner fees. The details with the liquor commission and Hawaii Prince Golf Club are being worked out to serve beer on the golf course. Announcement A motion was made and seconded to approve Nadine Uratsuka to serve as Vice President/President Elect. The Nominating Committee is asking for nominations of members to serve on next year s board. Shelley Okubo serves as the Corporate Recruitment and Retention Committee Chair for Brenda Kanno serves as the Corporate Finance Committee Chair. 4

Be sure to introduce yourself at the April dinner meeting! A new member orientation breakfast will be held on April 18, 2012 at The Plaza Club, 900 Fort Street Mall, 20 th Floor. Registration and networking will begin at 7:00 a.m. with breakfast and presentation to follow. The special guest speaker will be Billy Pieper, Vice President of Bank of Hawaii. Eleanor Rego, Lamination House Eleanor Rego is the Territory Manager in sales for Lamination House. Previous to her employment at Lamination House, she was with the Defense Automated Printing (DAPS) at Pearl Harbor Shipyard for 38 years as the Facility Manager. Her current executive, Joyce Gooman, President/Owner of Lamination House encouraged her to come out of retirement and jump into sales! Eleanor has been with Lamination House for exactly one year. Lamination House is a lamination, printing, binding, mounting, equipment service and promotional products company. Eleanor has been married for 40 years and she has one son. He attended Saint Louis School and then went on to UNLV. In Eleanor s free time (but who has free time), she enjoys fishing, going to the beach, camping and collecting recipes. She loves trying new places to eat no matter how far the drive. She s been known to drive out to Ted s Bakery on the North Shore to get her donut or pie fix! Eleanor also belongs to a royal Hawaiian society, Hale O Na Ali i, Ahahui Po o. She served as their secretary for nine years. Eleanor has enjoyed her entry into EWI especially the dinner meetings which gives her a chance to meet others and network. Welcome Eleanor! 5
