The Great Danes take on St. John s for just the second time, with the Red Storm winning 2-0 on September 2, All three are playing their opening games this weekend. UAlbany is the reigning America East champion, going last year with a league record. Army West Point finished the 2015 season at overall and in the Patriot League. The defending America East champion picked up six first-place votes from the league s head coaches. Hartford got the other three first place votes and placed second while Maine is at third. America East Individual Rankings (8/19) Category Rank Points Goals Assists Goals Allowed Average Save % RACE TO UALBANY ALL-TIME ASSISTS LEADER Three Great Danes are within striking distance of the all-time assists record at UAlbany. The current record holder is Krista Fitzpatrick, who notched 14 assists from Kiana Rugar stands second in UAlbany history with 12 career assists in two years of playing, including a single season program record seven in Tied for third all-time at 10 are UAlbany seniors Alexa Schneider and Caitlyn Paltsios. SCHNEIDER, PALTSIOS TO SERVE AS TEAM CAPTAINS UAlbany seniors Alexa Schneider and Caitlyn Paltsios will be the team captains for the 2016 season. 3 CUCCHIELLA ANNOUNCES CHANGES TO COACHING STAFF A couple of new faces join UAlbany on Caitlin Cucchiella s coaching staff, which brings back associate head coach Nick Bochette and director of operations Mark Van Leuven. Former professional player Ashley Grove joins as an assistant coach while Teagan Waddingham, a former goalkeeper at Sage, will serve as a volunteer assistant. ALANA OLIVIERI STEPS INTO THE CAGE Alana Olivieri started the last seven games of 2015, stepping in for the injured Alana Brennan, for UAlbany at goalkeeper in her firstever collegiate starts, leading the Great Danes to the America East Tournament title. In that span she recorded three shutouts and five victories in a row. SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS: An All-Patriot League selection in 2014, junior midfielder Clare Shea is Army s top returner in scoring with two goals and three assists last year. No other returner had more than three points last year. Threeyear starting goalkeeper Jordan Cassalia had a 1.53 goals allowed average and saved 69.8% of shots last year. Needing to replace its top three goal scorers from 2015, St. John s is led by sophomore forward Lucy Whipp, a Preseason All-Big East player with two goals and four assists while senior midfielder Morgan Tinari had nine assists.
