Alyssa Grogan will provide color commentary. Home Sweet Home The Gophers are at home in Ridder Arena this season, including a perfect mark through the first half of the season. Minnesota is 8-4 on the road this season, splitting at Wisconsin, Bemidji State, North akota and Minnesota uluth, while earning series sweeps at Harvard and Minnesota State. National Rankings Minnesota is listed at No. 2 in the USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine national polls, moving up one spot from its No. 3 ranking last week. St. Cloud State is not ranked in either poll. The Gophers are listed at No. 2 in the PairWise Rankings and No. 3 in the RPI. Staying Out of the Box Minnesota averages the fewest penalty minutes per game among WCHA teams, with just 8.9. That number is down significantly compared to last season when the Gophers averaged penalty minutes per game. Strong efense Minnesota has the fewest number of goals allowed in WCHA play, with just 34 goals allowed in 22 WCHA games and 40 goals allowed overall. The next closest team is Wisconsin, with 41 goals allowed, 35 of those coming in WCHA games. Minnesota ranks first in the nation in scoring defense, allowing an average of 1.43 goals per game. Kessel Reaches Milestone Sophomore forward Amanda Kessel tallied one assist in last riday s 6-3 win over Minnesota State, giving her membership in the 100-point club. She currently has 100 career points, with 40 goals and 60 assists in 64 career games. Only three other players in Gopher women s hockey history have reached 100 career points in their sophomore season: Nadine Muzerall, Krissy Wendell, and Natalie arwitz. Kessel is the fifth current member of the team to reach the 100-point milestone as Emily West, Sarah Erickson, Jen Schoullis and Anne Schleper have all passed the 100-point mark. Kessel is the only non-senior on the current team to get to 100 career points. Tops in the Nation Junior goalie Noora Räty has started 27 of 28 games for the Gophers this season. Räty ranks first in the nation in goals against average with a She has 552 saves on the season, with 40 goals allowed. Räty ranks seventh nationally and third in the WCHA in save percentage with a 93.4 Against UM on Jan. 14, Räty recorded her 21st career shutout to tie the school record. She is currently tied with Erica Killewald, who had 21 career shutouts from , and needs just one more shutout to claim sole possession of first place in the Gopher record books. Bozek Leads the Way Junior defenseman Megan Bozek is tied for first nationally and leads the WCHA in scoring by defensemen with 26 points on the season. She leads the nation in goals by a defenseman with 10. Bozek has 73 career points to rank seventh on the Minnesota all-time scoring list for defensemen. She is tied with Anya Miller ( ) for fifth in Gopher history in goals by a defenseman with 22. Top Scorers Both Amanda Kessel and Jen Schoullis rank among the top six scorers in the WCHA. Kessel is fifth in the league with 1.79 points per game, and Schoullis is sixth with 1.70 points per game. Kessel has 21 goals and 29 assists for 50 points, while Schoullis has 17 goals and 29 assists for 46 points. Both Kessel and Schoullis rank among the top 10 in the WCHA in goals scored and are in the top five in the league in assists.

2 About St. Cloud State The Huskies are on the season, and in WCHA games. Senior forward Brittany Toor is SCSU s leading scorer with 14 points this season. Sophomore Molli Mott and junior Abby Ness each have 12 points for the Huskies. Junior Tayler Vanenakker and freshman Julie riend have been splitting time in goal this season, with Vanenakker playing in 17 games and riend playing 16 games. Jeff Giesen is the Huskies coach, in his sixth season leading the team. The Series: St. Cloud State Minnesota is against the Huskies and has won the last 10 meetings between the teams. Earlier this season, the Gophers won two games against the Huskies at Ridder Arena. Minnesota won the first game 6-0 and earned an 8-0 victory in the second game. ans in the Stands The Gophers had a weekend attendance of 5,220 against Wisconsin Jan. 6-7, with 2,554 fans at Ridder for riday s game and 2,666 fans in attendance on Saturday. Both figures rank among the top 10 all-time attendance numbers for Ridder Arena. The Gophers have an average home attendance of 1,274 this season, up 47 percent from the attendance average of 864 at this point last season. This season, the Gophers have had five home games with crowds of 1,500 and over. Minnesota did not draw any crowds of 1,500-plus last season. Hat Tricks our Gophers have scored hat tricks this season, sophomores Amanda Kessel and Kelly Terry, and seniors Jen Schoullis and Emily West. Emily West had three goals in the Jan. 27 game at Minnesota State, marking the first hat trick of her career. West scored the Gophers final three goals of the game to give her team a 6-3 victory. Kelly Terry got her first career hat trick at Harvard, scoring three goals in the first period. It was the second multiplegoal game for Terry as she had two goals against St. Cloud State on Oct. 8. Jen Schoullis had her first hat trick at Bemidji State on Oct. 28. Amanda Kessel has three hat tricks this season. She recorded two hat tricks against New Hampshire Nov , marking the first time since 2004 that a Gopher player had two hat tricks in a weekend. Before Schoullis five assists last weekend, the most recent time a Gopher player reached the mark was Oct. 15, 2004 (Natalie arwitz). irst Points our Minnesota freshmen recorded goals in the first four weekends of play. Rachel Ramsey had her first goal in the season opener, scoring the sixth goal in Minnesota s 6-1 win over Union (Sept. 30). The following weekend, Meghan Lorence scored a goal in each of Minnesota s shutout wins over St. Cloud State (Oct. 7-8). At Wisconsin (Oct. 14, 16), Rachael Bona got her first goal against the top-ranked team in the nation (Oct. 14). Stephanie Anderson notched her first goal in the Gophers 3-0 win over Minnesota State Oct. 21. Schoullis Reaches 100 Points In the Oct. 7 game against St. Cloud State, senior forward Jen Schoullis scored a goal and had two assists, making her the third current Gopher to reach the 100-point milestone. Sarah Erickson (114) and Emily West (117) are also in the 100-point club. Schleper Reaches Milestone Senior defenseman Anne Schleper has 101 career points ( ) after adding a goal and an assist in the Jan. 6 game against Wisconsin. She is in good company, as only two other defensemen in Gopher women s hockey history have reached the 100-point milestone: Courtney Kennedy, who had 112 career points from , and Winny Brodt, who tallied 134 points from Schleper ranks third behind Kennedy and Brodt in points, goals, and assists by a defenseman. Bozek and Seeler Reach Milestones efensemen Megan Bozek and Kelly Seeler each reached the 50-point milestone against St. Cloud State Oct Both players entered the weekend with 49 career points. Bozek reached 50 points with an assist on Jen Schoullis second-period goal in riday s game against St. Cloud State. Seeler had an assist on an Amanda Kessel goal on Oct. 8 to reach 50 career points. Coaching the Gophers Brad rost returns for his fifth season as the Golden Gophers head coach, his 12th season overall with the Minnesota program. rost started as an assistant coach in the season and was elevated to associate head coach following the season. He was named the interim head coach in summer of 2007, and was officially named the head coach of the Gophers following the campaign. rost holds a career coaching record of (.766).
