The series currently sits at in favor of the Monarchs. The reigning Conference USA Tournament champions, Old Dominion received its highest ranking of the season this week. The 49ers faced ODU twice last season, falling 2-1 in both the regular season and the C-USA championship game. LAST TIME ON THE PITCH The Niners took their first draw of the season, playing to a double-overtime tie with William & Mary. Senior Kyle Parker fired a team s season-high six shots in the match, and goalkeeper Austin Pack collected two saves en route to his 11th career shutout. SCOUTING THE MONARCHS No. 10 Old Dominion comes into Saturday s contest on a four-game winning streak, most recently defeating Hartford 3-2. The Monarchs fell 2-0 to then-no. 21 Coastal Carolina in their first ranked matchup of the year, but rebounded with a 4-1 win over then-no. 25 Akron. Senior forward Josue Henriquez leads the squad with four goals and redshirt junior keeper Alex Tiesenhousen has recorded 19 saves and allowed just five goals. MAYER NAMED TDS NATIONAL TEAM OF THE WEEK Senior David Mayer earned his first award of 2015, being named to TopDrawerSoccer.com s National Team of the Week. Mayer notched the gamewinning goal and recorded an assist against Gardner-Webb on Sept. 7, and assisted on the game-winning goal in the 49ers victory over Winthrop on Sept Mayer also played an integral role in helping the 49ers record their first shutout of the season against Gardner-Webb. PRESEASON FAVORITES Picked to repeat as Conference USA regular season champions, the 49ers also placed three on the Preseason All-C-USA team in seniors Kyle Parker and Biko Bradnock-Brennan and junior Brandt Bronico. Parker was also dubbed with preseason Offensive Player of the Year honors from the league, after sharing the title a year ago. RANKED OPPONENTS In the past eight years, the 49ers have played 32 ranked opponents, 14 of those at home at Transamerica Field. Charlotte has collected a record of (.547) against ranked opponents since The Niners started 2015 facing defending national champions (then No.2) Virginia on their home turf, and played strongly, despite falling 1-0. Old Dominion will be Charlotte s third ranked opponent of the season, coming in as high as No. 10. HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE Charlotte looks to continue defending Transamerica Field after compiling a at home the past three years. The Niners have amassed a record of at home all-time, dating back to the 1976 season. Since moving into Transamerica FIeld in 1996, Charlotte has posted a record of at home, recording win number 100 in a 3-2 double-overtime win over Wofford on September 15, 2014.
