2 TRANSPARENT PAINTING PROCESS: CHALLENGES AND FEASIBILITY The automotive industry is experiencing a steady rise in requirements, including cost pressure, a proliferating variety of car bodies, global presence and increasing accountability towards governments and customers, to name but a few. This also poses extreme demands on the painting process. And the industry is also facing more and more stipulations in terms of environmental protection and sustainability. To meet such challenges, companies use, among other things, highly flexible IT systems that create objective management tools from an abundance of production figures and data. So what s the place of automotive painting in all this? What kind of experience has been gathered, and what are the obstacles that still need to be overcome?
