Main installation steps Caution PV systems must be installed with care and precision. That is why at MECOSUN, all installers are trained how to install our solutions. The installer must be familiar with how to install every system component in order to ensure a leakproof seal, effective ventilation, outstanding performance and a long service life. All the mounting systems described in this mounting guide are suitable for roofs having a slope between 5 and 50. These systems are developed for installation in Wind zone 4 and Snow zone D as per standard NV65. The maximum perpendicular loads exerted to the surface of the solar array must not exceed 360 dan/m² in pressure and 230 dan/m² in depression. The framework must be checked beforehand by integrating the average weight of the system of 17 dan/m² (1 dan/m² = 1 kg/m²). We invite you to contact MECOSUN for a precise calculation of the weight per m² of your installation. It is also the installer's responsibility to check that the support elements are in compliance with the minimum requirements stipulated by the various systems (thickness of purlins, shapes, dimensions, etc.) thus adapting to the various types of recommended screws. It should be noted that the purlins receiving fixed points, must have the characteristics required to perform this function. The instructions are divided into two main installation steps: Preparing the equipment at ground level (or in the workshop) Installing the structure and the PV modules Table of appendices Appendix 1: MV3i, Installation of insulation support profiles, thermal insulation and the MSR support profile Appendix 2: MV3, MV3-L, Fastening of MSRs on IP purlins with interface profiles Appendix 3: MV, MV clip N O E S Page 5 / 18
Preparing MECOSUN equipment at ground level Step 1: Fitting of EPDM seals Fitting of EPDM seals Equip Rails Support Modules MSR - (ref. 2) and glazing beads MECO 220 (ref. 1) with EPDM rope seal - diameter 2 mm (ref. 11). Unroll the rolls of EPDM rope seal along the MSRs and press them into the recesses provided for this purpose. Important: do not stretch the EPDM rope seal and do not use grease or wax to facilitate the installation. Joint corde EPDM EPDM rope seal This step is unnecessary for all installations using the MV solution. Installation of the MV3i solution requires an intermediate installation step before step 2: installation of insulation support profiles, thermal insulation and the MSR support profile refer to Appendix 1 "MV3i, Installation of insulation support profiles, thermal insulation and the MSR support profile", p. 12. Page 6 / 18
Installing the structure and the PV modules For MV3 installations or MV3-L installations on IP purlins, refer to Appendix 2 "MV3, MV3-L, Fastening of MSRs on IP purlins with interface profiles", p. 16, before mounting the MSRs. Step 2: Placement of MSRs (on thin section, wood, concrete and IP purlins with solution MV ) Important, the MSRs are asymmetrical and must always be mounted in the same direction (see the training material for more details). An installation direction for the MSRs must thus be chosen. The first MSR, starting from the WEST, will act as a reference for the following elements. It must therefore be positioned so it is perfectly vertical and rectilinear. Refer to the MECOSUN training material and follow the steps in the method For roofs with slopes measuring greater than 13.5 m, coupling (or splicing) of the MSRs is required. This coupling is made with 2 elements: 1 mechanical coupling profile - splice tube (ref. 9) + 1 seal coupling (ref. 10). Tube Eclisse Profil Raccord PVC Splice tube PVC coupling profile The coupling is to be made on the roof and requires 2 fixed points. To do this, refer to the MECOSUN training material. For MV installations on a roof slope greater than 13.5 m, refer to Appendix 3 "MV splicing", p. 17. Step 3: Fastening of MSRs The MSRs are fastened to thin section type purlins (Sigma, Zed, C, rectangular tube), wood purlins or concrete purlins equipped with inserts, by means of fixing clips (ref. 12). Fasten a fixing clip to either side of the MSR at each intersection between an MSR and a purlin. Refer to the training material regarding the placement of fixed points. RSM MSR Crapaud Clip Vis de fixation Fastening screw PANNE BOIS WOOD PURLIN Page 7 / 18
Refer to the screw reference, p. 4 of this guide, to identify the screw reference corresponding to each type of purlin. Attention, for the solution MV, the attachment method on hot-rolled steel purlins does not require the use of MECO 140 interface profiles; the fixed points and the clips are fastened using screw #9. Important: for elements extending past the roof, at the gutter or ridge, the number of fastening screws on the wall plate and ridge purlin, shall be increased (refer to the MECOSUN training material). Step 4: Placement of the MSR To make sure that the MSRs are parallel to each other, use templates based on the selected module and the orientation (portrait or landscape). The length of the templates must be measured according to the instructions received during training. Note: the best template is the module that you have chosen +2 mm. Continue in this manner for all the following MSRs. All squareness and straightness problems should nevertheless be corrected at least every 5 rails. Step 5: Install the PV modules Each column between two MSRs contains the following components (from bottom to top): - n x [a solar panel (ref. 8) + intermodule sealing tape (ref. 7)] - an intermodule plate (ref. 6), positioned under the high part of each module - a glazing bead MECO 220 (ref., and 1) - a terminating bar (ref. 3). Details of step 5 follow the specified order, starting at the WEST of the array: 5 A - Equip the upper part of the first solar panel (ref. 8) with the intermodule sealing tape (ref. 7) (important: refer to your training material for the exact location of this seal on the module), Page 8 / 18
B - Place the solar panel of the first column between the two MSRs. C - Position the intermodule plate (ref. 6) and fasten it to the MSR (consult your training material for the exact position and fastening method). Panneau Solaire Joint Occultant Tole Inter Module Solar Panel Sealing Tape Intermodule Plate 5 D - Slide the next solar panel (equipped with the intermodule sealing tape) in the upper part and fit it against the previous one, making sure to compress the seal so as to leave only a maximum distance of 3 mm between each module. Module Haut Joint occultant Intermodule Tole Intermodule Module BAS Upper Module Intermodule sealing tape Intermodule Plate Lower Module E - Important: for the first column of modules, place the terminating bar to the WEST (ref. 3). This lateral bar is also to be placed on the EAST end of the array, but never between the modules (this step is thus only to be followed for the first and last column of modules). F - Install the glazing bead: cover the WEST part of this column with the glazing bead and secure it in every 30 cm with screw #3. Use the holes provided for this purpose or, if no holes are present, create them using these same screws. Important: refer to the MECOSUN training material on how to install the last glazing bead of the column which shall be cut according to the length of the slope. Page 9 / 18
Repeat these steps until all the modules in the column are installed. Finish with a panel equipped with intermodule sealing tape on its upper part and with an intermodule plate. Barre de Terminaison Haute RSM Joint occultant inter Module Par Close Tole Inter module Cadre du Module Upper terminating bar MSR Intermodule sealing tape Glazing bead Intermodule plate Module frame When you have finished installing the modules: G - On ridge, finish the column with a terminating bar. Lock the terminating bar using locking lugs (consult your training material to find out how to orient and secure these lugs), Barre de terminaison Tole intermodule Patte de fixation Terminating bar Intermodule Plate Attachment pad Repeat this method for each module column down up to the installation of the terminating bar positioned to the EAST of the solar array. As you install the modules, remember to connect the modules to each other and to earth the frame of every module refer to the mounting guide for the module and the MECO-Bat training material. Installation is now complete. Hint The side terminating bars leave a free area to secure any side panels which couple with the building siding (trim panels not supplied by MECOSUN). Page 10 / 18
Options Underside plate For buildings with low and high humidity, the installation of anti-condensation plates equipped with condensation regulators may need to be installed between the MSRs. They rest on the horizontal extremities of the MSRs. RSM Tôle de sous face Fixations MSR Underside plate Fasteners Contact the MECOSUN training department for more information on the fastening methods and to purchase this equipment. Gutter (not supplied by MECOSUN) The solar array may integrate a gutter having a maximum diameter of 130 mm. In order to respect a maximum gap of 0.5 m between each gutter hook (DTU 60.11), an piece of flat aluminium sheet is secured underneath the MSRs. Plat Aluminium GOUTTIERE Crochet de Gouttiere Flat aluminium sheet GUTTER Gutter hook Refer to the MECOSUN training material for more information about the fastening methods. Safety rail Cable tray MECOSUN systems can be equipped with a safety rail, secured to the upper terminating bars. This system meets the requirements of standards EN 795 (anchor devices), NF EN ISO (Safety of machinery - Permanent means of access to machinery), NF E (industrial installation elements, fixed ladders with or without caged ladder). Contact the MECOSUN training department for more information on the fastening methods and to purchase this equipment. Cable trays can be fastened underneath the MECOSUN MSRs by means of clips. These elements are fastened to the vertical portions of the MSRs, thus forming a hanging support equipped with a threaded rod, nut and washer. Contact the MECOSUN training department for more information on the fastening methods and to purchase this equipment. Page 11 / 18

CASE 1: Installation on wood, cold-rolled steel (or thin section) and concrete purlins. Step A: Placement of insulation support profiles - ISP The insulation support profiles ISP - (ref. 6) are installed according to the same principle as the MSRs: The first ISP, starting from the WEST, will act as a reference for the following elements. It must therefore be positioned so it is perfectly vertical and rectilinear. Refer to the MECOSUN training material and follow the steps in the method Step B: Fastening of the insulation support profiles - ISP Reminder: installation is possible on wood, cold-rolled steel (or thin section) and concrete purlins. The ISP must be anchored in a fixed manner at the roof's high points (ridge) and a loose fitting at the other attachment points below this anchoring point in order to allow for unrestricted expansion of the aluminium elements. PSI VIS AUTOFOREUSE AVEC RONDELLE PANNE FAITIERE The upper fixed anchor points are secured with selftapping screws and the loose ends are secured with fixing clips (ref.10) placed on either side of the ISP. Refer to the MECOSUN training material to identify the screw reference to be used according to the type of support purlin. Step C: Placement of the following insulation support profiles - ISP ISP SELF-TAPPING SCREW WITH NUT RIDGE PURLIN The parallel alignment of the ISPs is ensured through the use of templates cut according to the module chosen. The length of the templates must be measured according to the instructions received during training. PSI GABARIT ISP TEMPLATE chosen +2 mm. Note: the best template is the module that you have Continue in this manner for all the following ISPs. All squareness and straightness problems should nevertheless be corrected at least every 5 rails. Page 13 / 18
Step D: Installing the insulation Install the insulation in the same manner as a module: The width of the insulation must be the same as the panels. It is placed between the 2 ISPs and are positioned from the gutter to the ridge. The insulation is secured by the MSR support profiles (ref. 5) which compress the insulation on the ISP. Step E: Fastening the MSR support profile 2 situations are possible depending on the thickness of the insulation installed: - 40, 50 or 60 mm insulation = MSR support profile secured from above - 80, 90 or 100 mm insulation = MSR support profile secured from below In both situations, the MSR support profile fits into the ISP. Fastening from above Fastening from below The MSR support profile must be secured with #4 or #7 type depending on the type of purlins. Refer to the MECOSUN training material for more information about the fastening method. Profilé support RSM VIS ISOLANT PSI MSR support profile SCREW INSULATION ISP Step F: Fastening of MSRs to the MSR support profiles Place the module support rails - MSR (ref. 4) on the MSR support profiles. Secure these 2 profiles together with #2 self-tapping screws with a washer on each side of the MSR. GABARIT ISOLANT TEMPLATE INSULATION The templates must again be used to ensure that a constant gap/assembly clearance is maintained between the MSRs and the MSR support profiles. Return to step 5: Install the PV modules Page 14 / 18
CASE 2: Installation on IP purlins T-BOLT The ISPs are secured to the IP purlins by means of specific insulation clips (ref. 12), a T-bolt (ref. 11) and a flange nut (ref. 13) on each side of the IPN/IPE. 17 Appendix 2: MV3, MV3-L, Fastening of MSRs on IP purlins with interface profiles In the case where MV3 and MV3-L elements are installed on IP purlins, each of the support purlins must be equipped with a pair of aluminium profiles adapted to the profile of the purlins. Joint Mousse anticorrosion Corrosion-resistant foam seal Meco1410 (141 ou 142) Meco1410 (141 or 142) Panne (charpente métallique) Purlin (metal framework) These MECO 140; 141; 142 interface profiles clip onto both sides of the each purlin. They are maintained by placing a #5 screw every meter and as close as possible to the purlin. These structural sections are delivered in 6-meter lengths. They are to be cut at each purlin junction. The minimum distance between two successive structural sections must be 10 mm. Refer to the MECOSUN training material for more detailed installation instructionsœ. Profilés Meco Panne IPN Meco structural sections IPN purlin MSRs are fastened to the structural sections by placing a screw #1 (on each side of the MSRs) at each intersection between an MSR and these structural sections. These screws are used to block the clearance between each MECO140; 141; 142 and ensure the mechanical strength of the MSRs over time. Page 16 / 18
Appendix 3: MV, Splice MV For installations in which the MV solution is used on roofs with slopes in excess of 14 m, the MSRs must be coupled (or spliced) together This coupling is made with 2 elements: 1 mechanical coupling profile - splice tube (ref. 15) + 1 U-plate (ref. 16). The coupling and the fastening operation are performed on the roof. To do this, refer to the MECOSUN training material. Page 17 / 18
