1 Installation Instructions for Solar Snow Pad (SSP-T-3) Warning- Do not use this product on solar arrays where the calculated array snow loads exceed 50 pounds per square foot (psf). Most solar panels are rated for a compressive load of 50 psf. Using this product on projects where the array snow loads are in excess of 50 psf may cause damage to the panels. Snow Guard Layout The images below show a sample installation of Solar Snow Pads on a solar array. All solar snow pad installations will require three (3) pads per panel installed in the horizontal joint between tiers of panels. The formula for snow pad placement is as follows: (This layout is the same for solar arrays in Landscape or Portrait Orientation) Installation 1. The first row of solar snow pads should be installed in the horizontal joint between the top of the first panel and the bottom of the second panel. 2. The first solar snow pad should be installed on the center of the panel. Successive pads should be installed 1/3 of the panel width in either direction from the first pad. (Example: 58 wide panel / 3 = round to 19 ). Repeat this layout for each panel across the array. 3. Repeat this procedure in each horizontal joint between panels up the roof / array surface. Stagger placement of guards in successive horizontal joints. 4. Assembling Snow Pads There are two styles of snow pad clamps available

2 Type A clamps are used on projects where the solar panels are set closer than 9/16 together in the horizontal joint. Assembly of Solar Snow Pad Clamp Type A Clamp A is provided with a tensioning mechanism that looks like an anchor in profile. The anchor part is 7/8 wide. Slide 3 anchor parts per panel into the horizontal joint between panels. These anchor parts will need to be slid in from the ends of the panels at the vertical joints between panels. Slide the Solar Snow Pad over anchor part (in the locations described above). The upslope face of the Solar Snow Pad has (2) 3/8 diameter holes passing through it. Align to allow tensioning bolt to be inserted from the top of the pad such that it will bolt to the top of the anchor. Tighten bolt to a torque setting of 120 inch pounds. Proceed to next panel.

3 Solar Snow Pad Clamp Type T Type T is used on projects where the solar panels are set wider than 9/16 apart in the horizontal joint. Assembly of Solar Snow Pad Clamp Type T Clamp T is provided with a tensioning mechanism that is two (1) T Bolt. Assemble the Solar Snow Pad with the T Bolt connected as shown (diagram). Turn the T nuts so that they are parallel with the horizontal joint between the panels and drop between panels. Next, (in the locations described above) turn the T nuts perpendicular to the horizontal joint so that when tension is applied using the 2 bolts the T clamps to the bottom of the panel. Tighten bolts to a torque setting of 120 inch pounds. Proceed to next assembly.

4 Solar Snow Pad Clamp Type T with Strap Type T with Strap is used on projects where the solar panels are set wider than 9/16 apart in the vertical joint and snow retention is required along the eaves. Assembly of Solar Snow Pad Clamp Type T with Strap Clamp T with Strap is provided with a tensioning mechanism that is two (2) T Bolts, one (1) Strap, and one (1) Stiffener Plate. Assemble the Solar Snow Pad with the T Bolts, Strap, and Stiffener Plate connected as shown (diagram). Turn the T nuts so that they are parallel with the vertical joint between the panels, locate the up-slope T nut on the up-slope side of the lowest mid-clamp and drop between panels. Slide the assembly upslope until the ridge on the bottom of the Solar Snow Pad contacts the eave edge of the Panels as shown (diagram). Next, (in the locations described above) turn the T nuts perpendicular to the vertical joint so that when tension is applied using the 2 bolts the T clamps to the bottom of the panel. Tighten bolts to a torque setting of 120 inch pounds. Proceed to next assembly.

5 Solar Snow Pad Fence Retention Bracket Retention Brackets are used on projects where the snow fence is installed to retain the fence in an acceptable horizontal position. Assembly of the Solar Snow Pad Fence Retention Bracket Fence Retention Brackets are provided as needed for each end of the row of solar snow pad fence. Install retention brackets on the array side of the last pad with a ½ minimum gap to allow for expansion as shown in the image below. Tighten set screw (included).

6 PP87 Stainless Steel Coupling PP87 SS Couplings are used when one run of 3/8 SS rod ends and connecting another length of rod is required. Assembly of PP87 Stainless Steel Coupling PP87 Stainless Steel Couplings are provided as needed to connect (2) lengths of 3/8 Rod together as shown in the image below. Layout for Extreme Snow Areas Greater Than 75 psf Ground Snow Load If your project is in an extreme snow area, with greater than a 50 psf solar array snow load you will need to call us to discuss other options.
