Never use the spidle lock as a brake. Remove adjustig keys ad spaers. Form the habit of checkig to see that keys ad adjustig spaers are removed from the router tool, cutter ad attachmet before turig router o. Make sure cutter ca rotate freely. The directio of routig must always be opposite to the cutter's directio of rotatio. After work, release the router pluge ad allow spidle to stop rotatig before puttig machie dow. Check before cuttig that there are o obstructios i the path of the router. Whe cuttig through the full thickess of the workpiece, esure there are o obstacles beeath workpiece, ad that a sacrificial work surface is used. Additioal Safety Rules For Router Cutters Cuttig tools are sharp. Care should be take whe hadlig them. Always use cutters with a shak diameter correspodig to the size of the collet istalled i your tool. Always ru router cutters at the spidle speed recommeded ad marked accordigly. Esure cutter has reached correct speed before eterig workpiece. Recommeded speeds ca be foud o the packagig, i cutter istructios or i the Tred Routig Catalogue. Always use router cutters i a router. Router cutters must ot be used i a drill. Drill ad borig bits must ot be used i a router. Router cutters must oly be used for the material cuttig applicatio for which they are desiged. Do ot use o metal or masoary. Never use cutters with a diameter exceedig the maximum diameter idicated i the techical data of the powertool or attachmet used. Do ot drop cutters or kock them agaist hard objects. Do ot use cutters that are damaged. Cutters should be kept clea. Resi build up should be removed at regular itervals with Resi Cleaer. The use of a dry lubricat (Tredicote PTFE) will act as a prevetative. Do ot use PTFE spray o plastic parts. Cutter shaks should be iserted ito the collet to the mark lie o the shak. This esures that at least 3 4 of the shak legth is held i the collet. Do ot over-tighte the collet ut as this will score the shak ad create a weakess ad fracture poit. Observe the correct assembly istructios i the router istructio maual for fittig the collet ad ut. Observe the router power tool maual istructios o fittig cutters correctly. It is advisable to periodically check the collet ad collet ut. A wor, distorted or damaged collet ca cause vibratio ad damage the shak, ad should be replaced. Wor collet uts should be replaced. Do ot take deep cuts i oe pass; take several shallow or light passes to reduce the side load applied to the cutter. Too deep a cut i oe pass ca stall the router. Very small diameter cutters must be hadled ad used with care. Always retur cutter to its packagig after use. Should you experiece excessive vibratio durig use stop immediately. Have the eccetricity of the router, router cutter ad clampig system checked. All fasteig screws ad uts should be tighteed usig the appropiate spaer or key i accordace with the maufacturers istructios. Usig Routers I A Fixed Positio After work, release the router pluge to protect the cutter. Always use a push-stick or pushblock for last 300mm of the cut. Wheever possible use a work holdig device or jig to secure compoet beig machied. Esure attachmet is securely fitted to the workbech, with table surface at approximately hip height. -4- Esure a No-Volt Release Switch is fixed to or adjacet to the attachmet ad that it is used correctly. Check the directio of the workpiece is always opposite to the cutter's directio of rotatio. Do ot use awkward or ucomfortable had positios. Do ot reach udereath table or put your hads or figers at ay time i the cuttig path while tool is coected to a power supply. Useful Advice Whe Routig Judge your feed rate by the soud of the motor. Feed the router at a costat feed rate. Too slow a feed rate will result i burig. Take may light passes rather tha oe deep cut to reduce the side load applied to both router ad router cutter. Trial cuts should be made o waste material before startig ay project. Whe usig some attachmets icludig a router table or dovetail jig, the use of a fie height adjuster is highly recommeded. Whe usig a template guide bush, esure there is sufficiet clearace betwee cutter tip ad iside edge of bush. Esure cutter ad guide bush are cocetric. Router Cutter Maiteace Composite cuttig tools (brazed tip) must be maitaied by a competet perso i.e. a perso of traiig ad experiece, who has kowledge of the desig requiremets ad uderstads the levels of safety to be achieved. Esure chose workpiece is sufficietly larger to accommodate the ellipse ad support the jig. O the uderside of the workpiece mark the cetre lies for the major ad mior axis. Mark overall dimesios of ellipse oto cetre lies. Major Axis Mior Axis Fixig Mai Plate Positio mai plate usig the four sightig holes o the perimeter of the mai plate. Drill four 3.2mm (1/8 ) diameter holes through the holes of the mai plate ito the workpiece. Usig the four moutig screws, fix the mai plate to the workpiece. -10-

Slide the trammel bar assembly with router fitted through the holes i the sliders. Level adjuster plate so that router base is flat o the material. Tighte ut o trammel bar, usig the spaer. Positio the router over major axis mark. Slide trammel bar assembly util cutter is positioed over mark, the lock kob A. Major Axis Settig Mior Axis Positio router cutter over mior axis mark, slide trammel bar assembly util cutter is positioed over mark, the lock kob B. Settig up of the is ow complete. Mior Axis Fixig Methods The workpiece should be fixed oto a false or waste piece to stop you damagig your work bech. There are may methods depedig o the applicatio as follows: 1. 'G' clamps should be positioed outside the swig area of the jig. 2. Cam clamps are ideal as they will ot obstruct the jig. A adjustable camclamp jig ca be made for various sizes of ellipses. 3. Double-sided tape (Ref. DS/TAPE) ca be used ad rolled off easily after operatio. 4. Spot gluig with a hot melt glue gu will allow the workpiece to be prized off with miimal surface damage. 5. Pael pis are a quick ad easy method providig the small holes are acceptable. -11-

Note that whe cuttig or cetral paellig, oe ca reverse directio of feed to stop the electric cable becomig twisted. However, whe edge mouldig ad cuttig, feed directio must be opposite to that of the cutter. Care should be take o the last cut prior to break through, as the resultat ellipse or circular plaque or rig ca possibly move. Double-sided tape ca be used to elimiate ay dager of this occurrig. MAINTENANCE This jig has bee desiged to operate over a log period of time with a miimum of maiteace. Cotiual satisfactory operatio depeds upo proper tool care ad regular cleaig. Cleaig Regularly clea the jig ad remove resi build-up o all threads ad i the T-slots. Lubricatio Your jig requires o additioal lubricatio. Trial rus should be made o scrap material whe first usig this Jig. RECYCLING Jigs, accessories ad packagig should be sorted for evirometally friedly recyclig. Circle Cuttig Fit oly oe slider i the cetre of the mai plate usig the two M5 x 20 coutersik machie screws supplied. Fit mai plate to workpiece. The screws are fitted from the uderside ad ca be tighteed usig the 3mm hex key. Fit trammel bar assembly. Fit cutter ad rout out the circle. Adjust legth of trammel bar as required for cuttig circles from 550mm to 1800mm i diameter.
