3 IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS WARNING: When using electric tools, machines or equipment, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock and personal injury. READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING THIS TOOL 1. KEEP WORK AREA CLEAN. Cluttered areas invite injuries. 2. CONSIDER WORK AREA ENVIRONMENT. Don t use power tools in damp, wet or poorly lit locations. Don t expose your tool to rain. Keep the work area well lit. Don t use tools in the presence of flammable gasses or liquids. 3. KEEP CHILDREN AND BYSTANDERS AWAY. All children should be kept away from the work area. Don t let them handle machines, tools or extension cords. Visitors can be a distraction and are difficult to protect from injury. 4. GROUNDED TOOLS must be plugged into an outlet that itself is properly installed and grounded. Grounding provides a low-resistance path to carry electricity to ground away from the operator, should the tool malfunction electrically. Do not remove the grounding prong from the plug or alter the plug in any way. If in doubt as to whether the outlet is properly grounded according to code, check with a qualified electrician. 5. GUARD AGAINST ELECTRIC SHOCK. Prevent body contact with grounded surfaces: pipes, radiators and refrigerator enclosures. When your body is grounded the risk of electric shock increases. When working wherever live electrical wires may be encountered, try to ascertain whether there is a danger of shock. 6. DO NOT ABUSE THE CORD. Never carry power tool by the cord or pull on the cord to unplug it. Protect the cord from potential sources of damage: heat, oil and solvents, sharp edges or moving parts. Replace damaged cords immediately. 7. WHEN WORKING OUTDOORS, USE AN OUTDOOR-RATED EXTENSION CORD. 8. DO NOT EXPOSE ELECTRICAL POWER TOOLS TO MOISTURE. Rain or wet conditions can cause water to enter the tool and lead to electric shock. 9. ENSURE THE EXTENSION CORD YOU USE IS OF SUFFICIENT GAUGE FOR ITS LENGTH. 10. STORE IDLE EQUIPMENT. Store equipment in a dry area to inhibit rust. Equipment should also be stored in a high location or locked up to keep out of reach of children. 11. DON T FORCE THE TOOL. It will do the job better and more safely at the rate for which it was intended. 12. USE THE RIGHT TOOL. Don t force a small tool or attachment to do the work of a larger industrial tool. Don t use a tool for a purpose for which it was not intended. 13. DRESS PROPERLY. Don t wear loose clothing or jewellery; they can be caught in moving parts. Protective, nonelectrical conductive gloves and non-skid footwear are recommended when working. Wear protective hair covering to contain long hair and keep it from harm. 14. USE EYE PROTECTION. Use a full-face mask if the work you re doing produces metal filings, dust or wood chips. Goggles are acceptable in other situations. Wear a clean dust mask if the work involves creating a lot of fine or course dust. 15. SECURE WORK. Always ensure when using this tool, that the workpiece is held firmly by either your hands or lockable pliers. This is to ensure that you have full control over the workpiece at all times and it does not get caught in the grinding wheels. 16. DON T OVERREACH. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. Do not reach over or across machines that are running. INSTRUCTION BOOKLET 1

Do not reach over or across machines that are running. 23. MAINTAIN TOOLS WITH CARE. Keep grinding wheels dressed and clean for better and safer performance. Follow instructions for lubricating and changing accessories. For safe performance keep tool dry, clean and free from oil and grease. 24. AVOID UNINTENTIONAL STARTING. Be sure the switch is in the OFF position before plugging in. 25. ALWAYS CHECK AND MAKE SURE TO REMOVE ANY ADJUSTING KEYS OR WRENCHES before turning the tool on. Left attached, these parts can fly off a moving part and result in personal injury. 26. DO NOT USE THE TOOL IF IT CANNOT BE SWITCHED ON OR OFF. Have your tool repaired before using it. 27. DISCONNECT THE PLUG prior to MAKING ADJUSTMENTS. Changing attachments or accessories can be dangerous if the tool could accidentally start. 28. STAY ALERT. 5 SAFETY PRECAUTIONS FOR THIS BENCH GRINDER 1. Make sure the grinding wheels are securely mounted as described in the assembly instructions before connecting the tool to a power supply. Do not tighten the wheels excessively, as this may cause the wheels to crack. 2. Check wheels for fissures and cracks prior to use. 3. Use only cut-off wheels rated for 2850rpm or greater. Always store the wheels in a dry place with little temperature variation. 4. Always ease the workpiece agaisnt the grinding wheels when commencing work. A harsh impact can cause damage to both the workpiece and the machine. 5. Always allow the machine to reach full speed prior to commencing work. 6. Always use the material support when grinding. 7. Only ever grind one object at time. 8. Only use approved Swarts Tools attachments on this tool. Failure to do so may result in voidng of the warranty. 9. Ensure all components of the machine (i.e. the work support or spark guard) are always set at a safe distance from the grinding wheels to prevent them from ever coming into contact. 7 BENCH GRINDER ASSEMBLY Warning: do not connect the grinder to a power source until assembly is complete. Failure to comply could result in accidental starting and possible serious injury Use a Phillips head screwdriver and the 7mm long bolts to attach the top spark guard plate (1) to the inside of the wheel guard, ensuring that you screw it in to the first hole. Repeat for the other side. Spin the wheel with your fingers to make sure that the guard will not come into contact with the wheel when turned on. See picture. 2. Attach the safety guard supports (4) to the remaining hole on the inside of the wheel guard. Use the 15mm bolts and the clamping plate (3) to hold them in place at just finger tight. Ensure they are attached as shown in the picture. 3. Attach the standard (clear) safety guard (2) to the left hand side safety guard support (4) by sliding it on the end. Do not fully tighten it yet Attach the magnified safety guard (5) to the right hand side safety guard support (4) by sliding it on the end. The magnified safety guard (5) should be placed over the fine wheel as the magnification is used for sharpening drill bits. 3 5 INSTRUCTION BOOKLET 5

8 5. Fit the spring washer and then the flat washer onto the thumb screw knobs (7). 6. Position the flat work support (9) over the locating pin on the course wheel side. Screw in the thumb screw (7). Ensure that once tightened, the work support (9) does not come into contact with the wheel. 7. Position the indented work support (6) over the locating pin on the fine wheel side.screw in the thumb screw knob (7). Ensure that once tightened, the work support (6) does not come into contact with the wheel. It is imperative that you attach the correct work support (6) to the correct side, as the work support with the channel in it is used for sharpening drill bits which require a finer wheel for an effective result. 8. Adjust the safety guards and safety guard clamp s (3) position to a suitable location for your desired job. You must place the guards (2 & 5) in a position so that it is between your face and the wheel to protect you from sparks and debris. Once your desired position is obtained, tighten the 15mm bolts over the clamps (3) as well as the 10mm nut on the rear of the guards. Be careful not to overtighten these, as it may cause the guards to crack or shatter Wipe clean the safety guards with a clean, dry cloth and glass cleaner if they have become dirty during set up or during use. 10. Carry out a test spin of the weels with your hands prior to plugging in and turning on the machine to ensure that nothing will touch the wheels. 6 INSTRUCTION BOOKLET

9 GRINDER WHEEL REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT 1. Switch off and unplug the bench grinder. 2. Loosen the 3 locking screws (10) on the outer side of the wheel guard (be sure to just loosen & not remove them completely). 3. Twist the wheel guard (11) until the screws are in line with the large hole. 4. Remove the guard (11) - the grinding wheel will now be exposed. 5. Use a thick rag over your hand to hold the opposing wheel in place. Meanwhile, use an 18mm spanner counter-clockwise to remove the wheel nut. Be sure your hand does not get jammed between the wheel and the plate. 6. Remove the outer flange 7. Remove the current wheel. Inspect the inner flange for debris prior to installing the new wheel. 8. Place the new wheel onto the inner flange and be sure to inspect the outer flange for debris before placing it back onto the machine. 9. Reinstall the nut and turn the clockwise to tighten. Ensure that you do not over-tighten the nut. 10. Place the wheel guard (11) back on the tool and tighten the wheel guard screws (10) in place. Once you have completed this process, spin the new wheel with your hand to ensure that the wheel is secured properly, free from damage and well balanced. Note. If you have any questions regarding the set up of this tool please do not hesitate to contact us on (02) We are always happy to help. INSTRUCTION BOOKLET 7
