2 Thak you for choosig ONDURA for your roofig project. ONDURA should be carefully istalled. Mistakes i istallatio ca cause roof problems later o. Please take your time ad closely follow these istallatio guidelies. CAUTION Istallatio of roofig materials ca be dagerous. The relative amout of dager is icreased by the height from the groud, icreasig pitches of the roof slope, iclemet weather coditios or other factors. We strogly recommed for ayoe istallig ONDURA, or workig o a roof i ay maer, to take all precautios possible to esure your persoal safety at all times. Be sure that ladders ad other such devices are safely positioed ad properly secured. OSHA recommeds the use of a safety haress whe applyig roofig. Protective eyewear is recommeded whe applyig fasteers or usig power tools. ONDURA may be slippery whe wet, dusty, frosty or oily, so please avoid workig or walkig o the roof if ay of these coditios exist. Widy coditios ca make the worksite more dagerous, so we recommed that you do ot attempt to istall ONDURA durig widy coditios. ESTIMATING GUIDE FOR ONDURA Sheet dimesios: 48 iches wide by 79 iches log Sheet Coverage For projects requirig multiple sheets, accout for overlaps i calculatig roof coverage (see diagram below). Sidelap should be at least oe corrugatio (4 iches per corrugatio). Headlap should be at least 7 iches. The effective sheet coverage is 44 iches wide by 72 iches log. Fasteers Fasteers eeded per sheet: 23 mi./33 max. for 3 rows of fasteers, with rows spaced approximately 24 iches apart. Fasteers for roof ridge: 6 fasteers per foot of ridge (3 o each side). Faste sheets o every corrugatio at rake edge, eaves, ad overlaps. For other fasteer rows you may faste o every corrugatio or o every other corrugatio. Fasteig o every corrugatio provides better wid resistace. Faste ridge caps at every corrugatio. Ridge Caps Ridge cap sectios should overlap by at least 7 iches. Closure Strips Closure strips are 44 iches log, with four strips per pack. Closure strips should be used at roof ridge, eaves, hips ad valleys. 4 iches 7 iches tools ad MATERIALS You will eed the followig tools ad materials: Fasteer Driver (Hammer or Screw Driver) Utility Kife Saw (Had Saw or Circular Saw) Measurig Tape or Yardstick Strig Pecil or Marker Protective Eyewear 79 iches 2 48 iches

3 PLANNING STAGE Determie the Slope of the Roof The slope of the roof ca be calculated from measuremets of the rise ad ru of the roof. The rise is the vertical distace of the ridge above the eave. The ru is the horizotal distace of the ridge from the eave. A roof slope is ofte stated as the iches of vertical rise per 12 iches of horizotal ru legth. The miimum appropriate slope for a ONDURA roof is a 3-ich rise over a 12-ich ru. Slope = amout of rise per ru Example: 3-i rise per 12-i ru = 3:12 Miimum slope required: 3:12 Roof Sheathig Roof sheathig is a plywood or OSB (orieted stradboard) layer o top of the roof supports. If your roof has sheathig, we recommed usig stadard felt paper or a ice water shield over the sheathig. Purlis Eave Slope Ru Ridge Rise If your roof has purlis istead of sheathig, the the maximum purli spacig is 24 iches o ceter. If your roof may be exposed to heavy sow loads, the the purli spacig should be reduced to 12 iches o ceter. Note: At the ridge of the roof, the gap across the ridge, betwee the upper eds of the ONDURA sheets o each side of the roof, will be covered by the ridge cap; ad the gap should be o more tha two iches. If your roof is wider tha 48 iches, the you will eed to accout for the sigle corrugatio overlap for adjacet ONDURA sheets. The first ONDURA sheet will provide 48 iches of coverage. Each additioal ONDURA sheet will provide 44 iches of coverage with oe corrugatio overlap. Rake Edge The rake edge of the roof should be covered to prevet water itrusio or damage to the sheathig. The rake edge should be covered with drip edge flashig. The drip edge flashig goes over the felt paper o the rake edge ad uder the ONDURA sheet. Felt paper Drip edge flashig uder felt paper o eave Drip edge flashig o top of felt paper o rake O-Site Storage While stored at the job site, ONDURA sheets must be covered to protect from damage that may be caused by raiwater trapped betwee sheets. Do ot allow stacked sheets to get wet while stored. Cuttig ONDURA Sheets Always wear eye protectio whe cuttig. To cut a ONDURA sheet parallel to the corrugatios, use a utility kife with a sharp blade. Always cut sheets i the valley of a corrugatio with the paited side up. Roof Coverage ONDURA sheets are 48 iches wide ad 79 iches log. We recommed a overhag at the roof eave of 1 to 1-3/4 iches (Note: 1-3/4 iches is the maximum overhag relative to the edge of the roof sheathig). Measure the roof from eave to ridge ad add the overhag legth to determie the total legth of coverage. To cut a ONDURA sheet perpedicular to the corrugatios, use a circular saw with a carbide-tipped blade or a had saw. Apply a lubricatig oil o the saw blade to aide i a smoother cut. For best results, work with the paited side dow ad mark the cut lie with a pecil o the upaited side. If the total legth of coverage is greater tha 79 iches, the you will eed a secod row of ONDURA sheets. The sheet overlap from row to row should be at least 7 iches. Cut through the valley with utility kife. 3

4 Placemet of ONDURA Sheets If more tha oe row of ONDURA sheets is eeded, the the sheets must be istalled alog the eave first. The additioal rows are istalled above the previous row. Each row should be istalled with the first sheet at the opposite ed of the roof from the prevailig wids. With this orietatio, the seam of the overlap will face away from the prevailig wids. This orietatio will reduce the possibility of wid-drive rai gettig uder the corrugatio overlap. If wid-drive rai could come from both directios, the we recommed sealig alog the overlap with a elastomeric caulk. INSTALLATION STAGE Sheet Aligmet Place first ONDURA sheet o roof. Alig the ONDURA sheet to the rake edge. Alig the eave edge of the ONDURA sheet to overhag the eave by 1 to 1-3/4 iches. Note: Istall sheets with paited side up. The pait protects the pael from direct exposure to UV radiatio from the su. Closure Strip Positio Alog the roof eave, place closure strips uder the ONDURA sheet with the curved side up to fill the corrugatios. The closure strips must be placed where the fasteers will be located so that the fasteers will securely hold the closure strips i place durig the life of the roof. For aesthetic reasos, we recommed staggerig the positio of the corrugatio overlap for each row by startig the secod row with a sheet that has fewer corrugatios. As a geeral guide, a ONDURA sheet with 6 corrugatios should be used for the first sheet o the secod row. The full-width sheets should be used across the secod row. If istallig more tha 2 rows, the odd umbered rows should start with a full-width sheet ad the eve umbered rows should start with a 6 corrugatio sheet. If possible, we recommed placig the first row of ONDURA sheets o the roof to cofirm coverage with overlaps before the istallatio of the sheets. Closure Strips ONDURA closure strips fill the space created by the corrugatios. Veted closure strips are recommeded alog the eaves ad ridge of the roof to eable airflow uder the corrugatios. The vetilatio holes are small eough to prevet birds ad isects from formig ests uder the corrugatios. Solid ONDURA closure strips are available to completely block the opeigs uder the corrugatios, ad are recommeded for hip ad valley trasitios o the roof. Fasteer Positio Note: We recommed geuie ONDURA fasteers for istallig ONDURA sheets. Geuie ONDURA fasteers are available as ails or screws with a attached rubber washer to improve sealig aroud the fasteer. Other types of fasteers may ot provide sufficiet hold-dow stregth. Drive each ONDURA fasteer oly through the crow of a corrugatio ad perpedicular to the roof surface. Be careful ot to overdrive or uderdrive the fasteer. The rubber washer o the fasteer should be sugly i cotact with the sheet. Slight had pressure o a fasteered-dow corrugatio should ot separate the sheet from washer cotact. Correct Icorrect Icorrect Note: Each closure strip is 44 iches log. 4

5 Measure distace alog the sheet corrugatio from eave edge of sheet to outer wall of structure. The lower lie of fasteers should be istalled high eough o the sheet to be o or iside the wall support. The typical distace from the eave edge of a sheet to the outer wall is 2 to 3 iches. For resistace to wid uplift, the maximum distace from the eave edge of a sheet to the first row of fasteers is 5 iches. 5 ich max Istall fasteers o the first sheet alog the eave ad rake edges. Rake Trim Fiish your rake edge with metal flashig, either over or uder the last corrugatio edge of the ONDURA sheet. Whe usig metal flashig uder the last corrugatio, be careful to avoid fasteig through your flashig. Metal flashig over Metal flashig uder Alteratively, you could use a oe corrugatio strip from a ONDURA sheet uder the last corrugatio edge, or secure the last corrugatio directly to a raised rake edge. Example roof with two sheets ad two ridge caps Tip: For each row of fasteers, istall the first two fasteers at opposite sides of the sheet ad attach a strig lie betwee them across the corrugatios as a guide for the positio of the other fasteers. Mark the positio of the strig o the crow of each corrugatio with a pecil. Repeat for each row of fasteers. Istall fasteers at remaiig positios, but do ot faste areas which will be overlapped by other sheets. Place ext ONDURA sheet ito positio o roof. The sheets must overlap by at least oe corrugatio side to side The sheets should overlap by at least 7 iches ed to ed. If istallig over purlis, the overlap must be over a purli so that the fasteer ca be secured ito the purli. Corrugatio over raised fascia board edge Istall fasteers o sheet i the same maer as the first sheet. For the last sheet i a row, istall fasteers i the same patter as previous sheets ad i the fial corrugatio alog the rake edge. 5

6 Pipe Flashig Small Pipeflashig Accessory (12 x 12 Ich Flat Ceter) The small pipeflashig accessory ca be used for cold pipes up to 10 iches i outside diameter or for hot pipes with a maximum of 6 iches i outside diameter. To istall, lie up the corrugatios of the accessory with those of the ONDURA sheet so the pipe to be flashed will come through ear the ceter of the accessory. Cut a 15 x 15 ich square hole i the ONDURA sheet so the accessory will est well. Apply two beads of rubberized elastomeric flashig cemet/caulk aroud the square hole before placig the accessory. Cold Pipes: Cut a hole i the ceter area of the accessory to fit the pipe. Isert the pipe. Slip a pipe flashig boot with a rubber collar over the pipe, caulk the boot to the flashig accessory ad the faste it to the accessory with sheet metal screws. Hot pipes: Cut a hole i the ceter area of the accessory that is 2 iches bigger all aroud tha the hot pipe. Istall the hot pipe boot with caulk ad sheet metal screws. The istall a storm collar per the istructios from the storm collar s maufacturer. Fiishig up: Cut a full-sized ONDURA sheet to a sevecorrugatio width. Cut a opeig 20 iches deep from the bottom edge of the sheet ad three corrugatios 6 Exploded view of molded base pipeflashig accessory istallatio wide. Fit the sheet over the flashig accessory so that it will cover the top ad both side corrugatios. This sheet should fit directly over the sheet to which the accessory is applied, be caulked to the accessory, ad its upper ed should be uder the lap of the ext higher row of ONDURA sheets. Faste with ONDURA fasteers. Large Pipeflashig Accessory (20 x 20 Ich Flat Ceter) Pipeflashig boot Molded base pipe flashig accessory ONDURA sheet The large pipeflashig accessory ca be used for cold pipes up to 18 iches i outside diameter or for hot pipes with a maximum of 14 iches i outside diameter. To istall, lie up the corrugatios of the accessory with those of the ONDURA sheet so the pipe to be flashed will come through ear the ceter of the accessory. Cut a 23 x 23 ich square hole i the ONDURA sheet so the accessory will est well. Apply two beads of rubberized elastomeric flashig cemet/caulk aroud the square hole before placig the accessory. Cold Pipes: Istall the same as the small pipeflashig accessory. Hot pipes: Istall the same as the small pipeflashig accessory. Fiishig up: Cut a full-sized ONDURA sheet to a ie- corrugatio width. Cut a opeig 27 iches deep from the bottom edge of the sheet ad five corrugatios wide. Place the sheet over the flashig accessory so that it will cover the top ad both side corrugatios. This sheet should fit directly over the sheet to which the accessory is applied, be caulked to the accessory, ad its upper ed should be uder the lap of the ext higher row of ONDURA sheets. Faste with ONDURA fasteers. Valley Flashigs For valleys, istall a miimum 18-ich wide metal valley flashig. Cut sheets at a agle to fit the valley; the tur over, ad o the udersides alog the valley edge, caulk two corrugatios of the ONDURA solid closure strip, ad place ito the corrugatio. The put a ½-ich bead of caulkig o the flat side of the solid closure strips ad alog the corrugatio of the sheet betwee the solid closure strips. Tur sheets right side up, carefully lay i place so caulked closures seat o flashig, ad fasteer i place at least 12 iches up from the ceter of valley without pucturig the metal flashig. Slope Chages Flashig width should be icreased as slope differeces icrease or wheever water build-up o the lower slope ca be substatial. Use elastometric caulkig at all flashig joits ad closure strips. 7 Wall Flashig See below examples o how to flash whe ONDURA roofig meets a wall. Framig should also be i place beeath ad ear eough to the upper eds to receive fasteers securig the hip cover. Sap chalk lies o each side of hip to mark area of hip cover. Slopig rafter sheathig Hip Cover with Closure Strips Cut two corrugatios of ONDURA solid closure strip, ad attach to top side of ONDURA sheet with rubberized elastomeric flashig cemet/caulk. The istall hip cover with 7-ich ed laps. 8 Ridge Cap Note: Istall all sheets o both sides of the roof before istallig the ridge cap. Measure the ridge to determie the required coverage. If more tha oe ridge cap is eeded, they must be istalled with a 7 ich overlap. Allow for 3 or 4 iches of material at ed of ridge to overhag ridge ed. This material will be used to cover the ed of the ridge. 7 ich overlap Place the first ridge cap at the ed of the ridge away from the prevailig wid, allowig it to project out 3 to 4 iches from the ridge ed. Isert closure strip above ONDURA sheet ad below ridge cap. The closure strips must be placed where the fasteers will be located so that the fasteers will securely hold the closure strips i place durig the life of the roof. ADDITIONAL TIPS Pullig Nails To pull a ail from a ONDURA sheet, use a claw hammer ad a 1-1/2 ich wood dowel or pipe. This techique miimizes the chace of damagig the sheet. Put the dowel or pipe i the valley ext to the crow where the ail will be pulled. The use the dowel or pipe as a leverage poit for pullig the ail. Walkig o a ONDURA Roof Whe walkig o fasteed-dow ONDURA sheets, wear softsoled shoes ad walk o areas that have structural support from sheathig or purlis. Always place feet across corrugatios to distribute your weight ad prevet damage to corrugatios. ONDURA is more pliable i hot weather ad less pliable i cold weather. Always use care whe walkig o ay roof. Easy Maiteace Istall fasteers through the ridge cap ad closure strip at every crow of the uderlyig ONDURA sheets. The row of fasteers should be 1 ich above the lower edge of the ridge cap. If more tha oe ridge cap is eeded, overlap the ext ridge cap before fasteig through the overlap. Place ext ridge cap with 7 ich overlap. Isert closure strip ad istall fasteers. ONDURA sheets are easy to maitai. Over a period of years, weatherig will age your ONDURA roof s coatig. So you ll wat to give your ONDURA roof ew life by repaitig. First, sweep dirt ad loose debris off your roof. The either brush or spray with top quality 100% acrylic latex exterior pait. CAUTION: Do ot steam clea or use pressurized cleaig equipmet o ONDURA roofig. Istall fial ridge cap with 7 ich overlap ad 3 to 4 ich overhag. Isert closure strip ad istall fasteers. At each ed of the ridge, cut the overhag portio of the ridge cap alog the crow with a utility kife. Fold dow resultig flaps for a weather guard. Secure flaps to ridge fascia with roofig fasteers.
