Thank you to everyone who made last month s Christmas Party a great success! It was a great time for all and there were lots of prizes given out. The sweets brought by everyone was great, the Bingo games were fun and the special end of the year raffle was amazing, especially for those who won coins! See Pages 4 & 5 for all of the prize winners! This month, I will be presenting a program on Liberty Nickels. I hope that you will find the program interesting. See Page 2 for more info. We are still looking for others to do programs in upcoming months so please sign up at the meeting! Liberty Nickels were produced by the U.S. Mint from 1883 to A great deal has been written and discussed about the famous 1913 Liberty Nickels. This program will instead focus more on the history of the design of the Liberty Nickel and other interesting facts about this series. Please come out to the meeting and enjoy this program on this interesting area of coins. Again, it is always great when we have programs done by our regular club members. 5 2016 Christmas Party... BINGO Winners... Page 5 Approximately forty club members and guests attended our Christmas Party last month. As we did the prior year, the club gave out silver coins to each member attending (with a maximum of two coins per family membership). The coins were randomly distributed and they ranged from 1/2 oz. silver rounds up to a one gram Canadian gold coin with many great coins in the mix. Some brand new 2017 silver bullion coins from around the World were given out too. In total the prizes given out to members were as follows: 11-1/2 oz. Walking Liberty Silver Rounds Australia 1/2 oz. Tiger Shark Canada 3/4 oz. Silver Wolves 3 - Brilliant Uncirculated Mercury Dimes Silver Eagles Australia Silver Kangaroos Great Britain Silver Britannias Canada 1.25 oz. Silver Buffalos And the lucky winner of the 2015 Canada Maplegram Gold coin was: At the December Christmas Party we also played five games of BINGO for coin prizes. The winners of the first four games were: James Feng Australia Tiger Shark Cyndi Janson Canada Wolves Carl Janson Silver Eagle Ed Quon Canada Bison Each person in attendance received one card for each bingo game to play at no charge. Additional cards were sold to those who wanted them for $1 each. Half of the funds raised through the sales of the extra bingo cards were retained by the club and the other half was added to the prize for the winner of the evening s final game of bingo! An extra $49 was raised for the club. The winner of the final game of the night was Phil Iversen taking home a 1945 Mexican Dos Pesos Gold and $49! 6 Join the ANA... If you are not already a member of the American Numismatic Association, now is the perfect time to join! A regular membership in the ANA is only $28 per year. The ANA is our hobby s national organization and it does a great deal to further our hobby. The ANA has many educational programs, a wonderful monthly magazine and hosts some of the best coins shows in the country. Your ANA membership includes online access to all of the back issues of The Numismatist magazine going back over 100 years! With your membership in the ANA, you will also be able to register for ANA shows in advance and receive free admission. But most importantly, you will be supporting a great numismatic organization! Page 6 If you are not already a member of the Numismatic Association of Southern California, I again urge you to join. Regular membership dues are $20 annually, but if you sign up through our club your first year will be at a discounted $15 rate! With your membership, you will receive a print subscription to the award winning publication, The California Numismatist, which is edited by Greg Burns. If you do not wish to receive the print subscription to TCN, the NASC offers digital memberships for only $10 per year. The NASC also does a lot of good work to help support area coin clubs, including our Glendale Coin Club. For example, through their annual gold coin drawing, our club was able to earn over $200!
