Marks St. Orlando (YNs at 6:45-13th) Summer FUN July 11-13, 2013 Orange Co. Convention Ctr Orlando, Our Spring Show was a huge success although not without a few mishaps (see page 5). We sold over 135 tables and I had a wait list. I am also happy to report that our foot traffic was up which is a sign that our advertising is reaching our target market of collectors. We had several brand new dealers give the show a try; some from as far away as California and New York. I am glad that we are adding new people to our show family. It is a good sign that our show is continuing to grow. I would like to thank Frank Guzman, Don Mix, Jim Hunter, Skip Pfeiffer, BJ and Jeanie Neff, Bob and Gerry Russell, Jay Dixon and Dan Aidif for the help that they gave our club with the set-up, tear down and general running of the administrative area. We had a bunch of our members that were drawn as winners of the prizes offered in our Gold Raffle. Bob Dee, Barry Kahn, Bill Hancock and Mark Hollaman are all active member in our club and attend meetings regularly. The complete list of winners is on page 4. So now we get geared up for our Fall Show in September where we will go it all again. Thanks to everyone that assisted to make our Spring Show a great success! 2 May 8th 1939-S Walking Liberty Half Dollar - AU50 Although a supply of original rolls survived, this date is typically encountered in well-worn condition; thus the 1939-S "Walker" is a very tough coin to locate in mid-circulated grades. This coin displays only moderate wear on the high points with some mint luster remaining in the protected areas of the design. "Greysheet" Price: $60 Minimum bid: $50 May 22nd 1885 Indian Cent - VF30 A beautiful, even brown tone and sharp details make this nearly XF coin stand out in the crowd. This month s peculiarity is a 1958-D Lincoln cent that weighs 1.77 grams. The normal weight for a wheat cent is 3.1 grams. If you thought that the coin was struck through an object you were on the right track. The 1975 (P) Lincoln cent was struck through a very, very late stage die cap, one that had all but vanished. There were still bits of metal from the die cap that had folded into the recesses on the die and extended into the field area that gave the letters the appearance of having wavy tails. I did! 3 4/10 LMAD- Leroy Hayes name was pulled first-he picked and decided to keep his prize-a Silver Proof Set Educational Award-Frank Niedz, Paul Bricker, Glen Davies, Mike Thomas, John Lemay, Wayne Peters, all were called, but not in attendance, so David Mynchenberg got $20.00 to spend on numismatic reading material! Membership- Cliff Beddingfield and Brian Gibbons were not there, but Lee Brown was, so he takes home a silver dollar! 4/24 LMAD- Lee Vinci, David Gold, Peyton Strzalkowski and Dick Voegele all missed out, but Spencer Kahn was the lucky winner-picked Envelope # 2-auctioned it off for $25.00 and sold it-the envelope contained 3 gold raffle tickets. Educational Award- Won by Artie Vecchio. Membership-Cathy Peters, David Morales, Bob Russell, Dick Voegele, Bob Huttner, Evan Duplantis, David Gold, Richard Mabee were no where to be found, but Bob Dee stood up when his name was called and claimed his silver dollar. [If you notice we had to expand this section due to the number of NO SHOWS at the meetings! Do your part to help out the newsletter publisher-come to the meetings and claim your prizes!] Public Registration Positions for the summer FUN show are just about full. There are only 4 spots left.-see BJ Neff to fill one of the open slots!" Yes", we will be giving silver eagles as well as parking and meal allowances to those of you who do volunteer their services for this event! Summer FUN is the perfect time to display what you are proud of and at the same time educate the public. Your exhibit does not have to be pretty or perfect. Summer FUN is for learning how to put an exhibit together and bringing it up to where it can be competitive. Summer FUN is totally non-competitive. If you are interested there are always ANA certified judges available who are very willing to provide advice on how an exhibit might be improved If you are interested please go on the web to click on Summer FUN, click on exhibits and then click on "application". 5 By: Bob Russell [Note-this article was submitted to Coin World and Numismatic News also] The Central Florida Coin Club, located in Orlando, Florida held its bi-annual coin show the week-end of April 5-7. Once again it was sold out with another record attendance obtained. The second morning of the show the security team, who stay locked in all night, went through the daily routine of uncovering windows and doors. It was immediately noted one of the team s car had been stolen from in front of the building. The police were notified, reports filled out but the young man was without transportation. Midway through the day Brian Miller of North Port Coins stated he knew about half of the dealers in the building and Nick Boyd of Trader Nicks Coin said he knew most all the dealers present. These two coin dealers not even having met this particular guard decided to try getting a donation from all the dealers present to help the young man get some transportation. It was a success beyond expectations with just under $2000 being collected. The close knit community of coin dealers is truly amazing to watch when something such as this happens and help is needed. As President of the Central Florida Coin Club and on behalf of the club I want to express a very sincere THANK YOU to every coin dealer who was present. They are a fine group of people.

6 The 90th Annual National Coin Week kicked off at the Orlando Public Library Downtown on April 21st at 1:30 PM-Celebrating this years theme Buffalo Nickel Centennial: Black Diamond Shine Again. Members in attendance were Dan Aidif, Skip Pfieffer, Zach Lauer and Steve Lauer. A light turnout due to rain, but a lot of knowledge was passed on to those who did attend!-put it on your schedule for next year! We need to continue to promote Coin Collecting!

7 April 14th was the date of this fabulous cookout! If you were not there, you REALLY missed a great cookout. I am sure no one went away hungry. Jim and Easter opened up their yard and hospitality to all members of the Central Florida Coin Club, it was a shame that so few showed up! After stuffing ourselves with every kind of picnic foods imaginable (and then some), we were led off to the side yard for a rousing chorus of Happy Birthday for Jim s 70th birthday, which was followed by a cutting of the cake! Thanks to Jim and Easter for their wonderful hospitality! Our very own president, Bob Russell, won first place in the miscellaneous category, which earned him a 1/2 ounce gold eagle. He also won peoples choice award and received a 2013 proof set. With nine entries for best in show he came in second by a point (that s all it takes). Just for exhibiting he got a silver round and earned another silver round for judging. Congratulations Bob!

8 There will be a an educational presentation at the May 22nd meeting, but the topic is unknown at this time! NOTE: We are looking for speakers/presentations! See BJ Neff to reserve your spot! It is our goal to have one meeting per month, where a guest speaker (read-a member of the club) gives a short 20 minute presentation on a topic of their choosing-numismatic related, of course. We are always looking for volunteers to share their knowledge with the members- The presentation doesn t need to be show quality, just get up and tell us what you know!
