2 55th Annual LVNS Coin Show May 17-19, 2018 REPORT by Joe Cavallaro With the help of many LVNS club members and the staff of CKShows, this large expanded show went off without a hitch. Attendance was about average even though extensive adverting, including TV commercials, was presented. Dealers I spoke with reported having a good show and said how much they enjoy coming to Vegas. Special thanks to Walt Ostromecki and Tiffani Bueshel, of the ANA, for attending the show and to our friends from the NV Civil War History Assoc. for the outstanding display they presented. Guest appearance by Felix Silla, aka, Cousin Itt and many other film and TV roles was a big hit with the crowd on Sat. May 19th. The fantastic Mormon Gold Collection and seminar was presented by Mr. Robert Campbell along with the Silver Dollar seminar led by John Highfill and Mike Faraone. The contents of the Carson City display will be offered to LVNS Club members soon. Raffle sales amounted to $ giving us a profit of apx. $1400 after all expenses. Winners came from Michigan, Colorado and of course Nevada. Special thanks to show dealer and club member Mark Sklepik, who won 3 prizes and donated 2 of them back to the LVNS. A worker reward raffle is planned soon. See other show news in this newsletter. 4 Sad news, our time here at UUMC is limited! The church has made a deal with a developer to build a multi-story hotel on its property. At this time, we have been told we have until the end of November. Also as you may have seen, the Religious Services are now being held in the auditorium where we hold our meetings and that is why the configuration of tables and chairs has changed. The time and dates of all future LVNS meetings and events are now subject to change. We are looking around for a new meeting location. Charleston Heights, is to the best of my knowledge, still available, but our growth has made that location a little uncomfortable along with some of their other requirements. We will let you know ASAP when a new location is found. Coming this August 25th. A Luau Party to be held at UUMC Stay tuned for more information

When (and why) was the metallic composition of the 3 cent piece changed? 3. Why was the silver trime replaced with the 3 cent nickel? 4. Which year had the highest mintage? How many circulation pieces were produced? What dollar amount is that? 5. Why did the mintages drop so drastically in the years that followed: starting in 1866? 6. What are the two major varieties of 1873? 7. Were there any years that only proofs were issued? Why was that? 8. Were there any overdates in the series? Were there more of the overdate or more of the regular date? 9. What year had the lowest proof mintage; and is thus the hardest to obtain? 10. What was the final year of production? Which other denomination(s); designed by this same designer were also disco

Due to changes in management and unfavorable new contract terms, the LVNS coin show will not be returning to the Westgate in The LVNS and CK Shows are working feverously to find a new location for our coin shows. At this time there are a couple of front runners, both of which have been very favorable locations for us in the past. An announcement will be made as soon as a signed and sealed contract is negotiated favorably. Until then, we would like to thank everyone who has helped with the coin shows to carry on 55 years of tradition. The prize will be a 5 ounce.999 silver round. The objective: to guess what the CLOSING PRICE OF SILVER WILL BE ON FRIDAY, DECEMBER 7, Based on Kitco s New York Closing price. How to play: Each month, thru the Nov. meeting, when members sign in, they can enter one (1) guess. Please use U.S. dollars and cents. All the entries will be kept secret and filed until the closing date. At the Banquet, on Saturday, December 8, 2018, the winner with the closest actual price, high or low, will be announced. In case of a tie, a single winner will be drawn from the qualifying entries.
