1 PROVIDENTIAL HISTORY FESTIVAL ENTRY GUIDELINES & APPLICATION The 2010 Festival Offers Several Categies f This Year s Competition:

2 Speech Entries Writing and delivering a speech is a wonderful skill to acquire f so many areas of life. No matter how old you are, all are invited to prepare a speech f this year s festival. Simply follow these steps: GETTING STARTED NOW 3. Choose your event topic. 5. Write your 7 minute speech. 6. Practice delivering your speech in the time allotted. Fully memized lines are not essential f the application process. APPLY BY AUG 1 1. Complete the application checklist and return to PHF. 2. Submit a video of your speech. Costumes f speeches are acceptable, but not necessary. Submit your entries to: TOP SPEECHES SELECTED FOR FESTIVAL BY AUG 10 PHF will select the top speeches to be delivered at The Providential Histy Festival on September 18. These selected qualifiers will then finalize their presentation f the festival on September 18. PHF will notify qualifiers of their admittance to the festival by August 10. WINNING SPEECHES ANNOUNCED ON SEPT 18 Two awards will be presented at the Closing Awards Ceremony of The Providential Histy Festival: 1. The Gege Whitefield Award f the judges pick f best providential histy speech and 2. The Audience Choice Award f the audience s favite speech. Visit the website to see last year s winners. 3 Drama Entries Dramas are a wonderful way of telling a sty. If you are interested in developing a 15 minute providential histy drama with your family a group of friends, follow these steps: GETTING STARTED NOW 3. Choose your event topic. 5. Write your 15 minute script. 6. Select a cast. This group can be any number of people necessary to the development of the script. 7. Rehearse the script. Fully memized lines are not essential f the application process. APPLY! BY AUG 1 1. Complete the application checklist and return to PHF. 2. Submit a video of your drama. Costumes are not necessary f the application process. Min props are helpful. Submit your entries to: TOP DRAMAS SELECTED FOR FESTIVAL BY AUG 10 PHF (Providential Histy Festival) will select the top dramas to perfm at The Providential Histy Festival on September 18. Those selected qualifiers will then finalize their perfmance, costumes and props f the festival on September 18. Qualifiers will be announced by PHF by August 10. 5 Table Display Entries If getting on stage is an uncomftable idea, try ganizing a providential histy table display. Do it yourself make it a group efft by following these steps: GETTING STARTED NOW 3. Choose your histical event topic. 5. Wk on presenting your providential sty in an easy-to-read and compelling table display. PHF welcomes table display entries. Please send the following infmation either by mail . We must receive your application no later than August 1, APPLY BY AUG 1 1. Complete the application checklist and return to PHF. 2. Submit a 100-wd summary of your sty and providences to: TOP DISPLAYS SELECTED FOR FESTIVAL BY AUG 10 PHF will select the qualifying table displays f presentation at The Providential Histy Festival on September 18. These selected qualifiers will then finalize their table display presentations f the festival on September 18. PHF will be in contact with the qualifying presenters. 6 Sht Sty Entries F those who like to mix art and writing, this categy is your opptunity to unearth a providential histy treasure and then produce your own children s illustrated sht sty: GETTING STARTED!! NOW 3. Choose your histical event topic. 5. Write your sht sty in fewer than 2000 wds. 6. Illustrate your sty with hand-drawn art computer graphics art. APPLY! ANYTIME ALL YEAR 1. There is no timeline f this categy. It will be a year-round process. 2. Complete the application checklist and return to PHF. 3. Submit your text and illustrations to: TOP STORIES SELECTED FOR FESTIVAL! BY AUG 10 PHF will select the top sht sties to fmat and publish f The Providential Histy Festival on September 18. This process may take several months, so apply early if you want to be part of this year s festival. Entries that do not arrive in time f this year will be part of the following year s processing. 7 Frequently Asked Questions Can I enter me than one project? Yes. There is no limit to the number of projects you can enter. Each project must have its own application fm. Sometimes it is a nice idea to develop a speech drama topic further by entering an accompanying table display essay. Can a parent help a child with their entry? Yes. This is actually encouraged though not required. Is there an age recommendation f entering? No! If you love histy and have a providential topic that interests you, then you are welcome to join in the fun! The Providential Histy Festival has had competits in the past ranging from ages Although there is no age limit, there IS a qualifying round of competition. Those who win the initial qualifying round will be notified of their opptunity to compete in the fall Festival. What is the purpose of the qualifying round? The Providential Histy Festival Competition in the fall does not have enough time to allow everyone to participate. In addition, the fall Festival will be a me exciting experience f all if the top entries are chosen f the fall presentation. What is the most imptant thing I should include when developing my presentation? The most imptant thing that the judges will be looking f is how well you develop the providential points of your topic. The judges want to see the Hand of God clearly wking in your topic. This is different than retelling the facts of the event. Be sure to read Seeing Histy With New Eyes on the resources page of the website. Next, the judges will be looking at how well you present your material.
