1 Birds Of Love By Rebecca Yue This delightful design unfolds piece by piece to reveal a message of love and although care needs to be taken to get the positions right it is deceptively simple to make. The message could always be changed to make it more individual and personal to the recipient. Materials Required: Craft knife and cutting mat. Tracing paper: 2 pieces 16cm x 20cm. Pencil and ruler. Fine embossing tool. Embossing pad and masking tape. Gel writer: Blue and White (or pen & ink). P.V.A. Craft Adhesive. Card mounts: DF01U Parchment White and DEC1U Dark Blue. To Make The Card: Place one piece of tracing over the white actual size diagram on the following page. Carefully trace all the lines including the border lines and wording if desired. Repeat using the other piece of tracing paper and the actual size blue diagram. Fold the blue card and using a ruler and a sharp knife trim the side edge of the card to remove the deckle keeping as close to the edge as possible so you trim off just a tiny strip. Leave the top and bottom deckles intact and unfold the card. Place the trimmed card face up and position the blue tracing onto the right hand panel as shown, aligning the box with the edges of the card and stick in place with a little masking tape. Place the card with the taped design onto the embossing pad or similar soft surface and using the embossing tool carefully emboss over the wording making an indented line on the card. Be certain that you have gone over all the letters as it will be difficult to line up again later if any are missed off. Place the card with the tracing still attached onto the cutting mat and cut along all the lines, cutting through both the traced design and the card beneath in one go. The eyes can be cut out at this stage (difficult) or drawn on with gel pens later. Check to see that all the lines are cut through especially the corners, cut them rather than pull at them to keep nice clean edges. 6

2 Actual Size Place the white card face up and align the white tracing on the left end panel as shown. Tape the design into place, emboss and cut in the same way as the blue section. Use the blue gel pen to go over the indented wording on the white card and the white pen on the blue card. It may be easier to see the indents if you have a table lamp or work near a bright window. If you have chosen to draw in the eyes do it now using the gel pens white on blue and blue on white. Don t forget to do both sides for when the card is opened! 7

3 Actual Size Place the blue card on the work surface with the cut panel on the left hand side. Place the white card next to the blue with the cut panel on the right hand side and the left end panel folded behind the card as shown. Bring the blue card over the white so that the right hand blue panel covers the centre white panel. 8

Pick the card up carefully and tap it gently on all sides to line the cards up correctly, check that none of the wording shows around the cut-outs and all looks well.

Now weave the cards together, follow the instructions given with each diagram. Begin by folding the white top section over the blue panel. Fold the blue top section over to the centre as shown. Flip the card over so the back is towards you, open the white double flap and, making certain that the two cards stay aligned put some P.V.A. adhesive onto the blue flap Fold the centre panel of the white card back over onto the glue and press firmly leaving the end white panel loose as shown. The extra flap at the back will be for writing a message as in a normal card and will also help the card to stand up nicely on the mantle piece. Fold the middle section of the white into the centre. Fold the last blue piece in to the centre and finally the last white piece tucking the corner of the piece into the slit cut in the blue card as shown. 9
