1 Boxed Greetings! Judi has come up with a surprise gift box that is sure to please everyone on your list. Lots of dimension, lots of decorating space, and there s even room for a small surprise a diamond ring? a gift card? a big roll of cash perhaps? Follow the instructions, download the template, and the surprise well that s up to you! Old World Snowflake Marvy/Uchida: FEATURED PRODUCTS JudiKins: Outline Joy Rubber Stamp Solid Joy Rubber Stamp Snowman Cube Alpine Snowflake Retro Snowflakes Cube Fancy Snowflake Medium Trio Adhesive Cartridge Hi-Vis Ruler Pen Knife Cutting Mat PrintWorks Collection: Outliner black ink pad Designer Inks Ink Spots - Marigold - Citrus Green - Granite Gray - Cornflower Blue Paper Trimming Buddy with - Scoring Cartridge - Straight Cut Cartridge supplies Two 12 x 12 pieces white cardstock Pencil Tools Bone Folder template Surprise Box Template printed onto white cardstock. Print page 1 two times, you will need 4 pointed panels and 4 straight panels. Starting your Surprise Box 1 Make the box bottom. Place a piece of 12 x 12 white cardstock in the Paper Trimming Buddy from Marvy/Uchida fitted with the Scoring Blade cartridge. Make two score lines; one at 8 and a second one at 4. Turn the cardstock one-quarter of a turn and repeat the score lines; again one at 8 and a second one at 4. You will end up with something that resembles a TicTacToe pattern.
2 Switch the cartridge in the Paper Trimming Buddy to the Straight Blade. Position the scored cardstock from Step 1 at one of the 4 score lines. Cut from the top of the cardstock to the first score line perpendicular to the score line you are cutting. Rotate the cardstock one-quarter of a turn and continue cutting in this manner until you have made four 4 cuts one on each side of the cardstock. 2 Fold in all of the remaining score lines. Unfold. 3 Ink the Outline Joy rubber stamp from JudiKins with the black Outliner ink pad from PrintWorks Collection. Stamp the inked image in the center square of the box bottom. Ink the Solid Joy rubber stamp from JudiKins with a Cornflower Blue Ink Spot from PrintWorks Collection. Over-stamp this image on top of the Outline Joy image. Don t worry if the positioning is a little off-center that s part of the design of this project. Set the box bottom aside for now. Create the wreath inside the surprise box. Download the Surprise Box Template from this week s Webisode at You will need 2 sheets of page 1 of the template for a total of 4 pointed panels and 4 straight panels. Print out on white cardstock. 4 5 Ink one of the snowmen from JudiKins Snowman Cube with the black Outliner ink pad. This is a waterproof ink pad that will allow you to watercolor the images without smearing. Stamp the snowman image onto one of the pointed panels closest to the right side of the panel. Choose a second snowman image from the Snowman Cube; using the same Outliner ink pad, stamp this image to the left of the first stamped snowman. This will leave the left side of the pointed panel empty. That will allow the panels to overlap without losing any of the snowman images when you put the wreath together later.
3 Make masks of the snowmen images. Without cleaning either of the snowman images just stamped, stamp each image again onto Eclipse Tape from JudiKins and cut out. Position each mask over the snowmen stamped on the pointed petal. The low-tack adhesive of the Eclipse Tape sticks firmly to the image, but is easily removed from your project when you re finished stamping. SEE MASKING FUN WEBISODE FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT MASKING TECHNIQUES. 6 7 With the masks in place, stamp several different snowflake images from JudiKins in soft winter-y colors of Ink Spots from PrintWorks Collection. Remove the masks after the snowflakes are stamped and you ll see that the snowmen have magically moved to the foreground of this pointed panel. Continue stamping and masking for the remaining 7 wreath panels. Watercolor the images. To color the snowmen use the Ink Spots from PrintWorks Collection as watercolors. Stamp the Ink Spots onto a nonporous surface like a clear acrylic palette from PrintWorks Collection. Judi used Marigold, Citrus Green, and Granite Gray. Pick up the color from the Ink Spot with a waterbrush from JudiKins or a damp paint brush and color in the snowman s hat, scarf, and buttons. Judi added a shadow of granite gray around the inside edge of each snowman. 8 9 When the images have all been stamped and colored, cut out each wreath panel. Score each panel on the score line and fold away from the stamped image. Unfold.
4 Assemble the wreath. Choose one of the pointed panels. Apply adhesive to the pointed tab below the score line. Judi used the Trio Adhesive from JudiKins. Adhere the pointed tab in one corner of the center square of the box bottom Add a straight-sided panel. Cut a slit approximately " in on the right side of the scored line. Apply adhesive to the straight tab below the score line. Overlap the pointed panel with the straight panel and adhere the tab to the outside of the scored line of the center square of the box bottom. Continue to assemble the wreath in this manner, alternating pointed panels in the corners and straight panels on the sides of the box bottom. Set the completed box bottom aside. All of the pointed tab panels are adhered to the inside corners of the center square of the box bottom. All of the staight-sided tab panels are adhered to the outside of the scored lines of the center square. Make the box lid. Decorate the center section of a piece of 12 x 12 white cardstock. Judi stamped a variety of snowflakes from JudiKins using Ink Spots in blues and greens. Because this lid will be folded concentrate the rubberstamping in about an 8 square in the middle of the cardstock. 12
5 13 Turn the cardstock over. Find the center of the box lid by drawing diagonal pencil lines from corner to corner on the undecorated side to create an X. Where the X intersects is the center of the cardstock. Fold each corner into the center. Use a bone folder to make clean, crisp folds. Do not unfold. You now have a smaller square. Fold each straight side to the center. Burnish each fold with a bone folder for a clean, crisp fold, then unfold before moving to the next straight side. When finished you should be back to the smaller square from Step With the smaller square SQUARE in front of you, unfold the left and right sides. There will be a small triangle on each end of the unfolded sides one points to the right and one points to the left. There is also a triangle at the top and bottom of the sides that are still folded. Starting with the triangle that points to the right, cut on the score line at the bottom point of that triangle to the bottom point of the triangle of the bottom side that is still folded. You should be cutting across two score lines. Repeat this same cut at the score line at the top point of the triangle. Do the same for the left side of the box lid.
6 Fold the box lid. Starting with the bottom folded side, fold the outermost triangles in on themselves. Fold the bottom edge up and the two cut sides in. Repeat with the top folded side. Hold both the bottom and top sides up with one hand. Now fold the left side (with the triangle pointing left) up and over the cut sides forming the left side of the box lid. 16 Repeat on the right side to complete the box lid. This step can feel a little clumsy at first start with practice squares of paper until you re comfortable making this fold. The beauty of the Webisode is you can rewind and watch Judi fold this over and over again. Secure the triangle flaps in the center of the box lid with adhesive, if desired. 17 To put the surprise box together, bring the box bottom completed in Step 11 to your work surface. Gather up the wreath panels and hold them gently with one hand. Bring each side of the box itself up and fold the cut side into an L shape. Continue around the box until all four sides are folded up. Carefully slide the lid onto the box to hold it together until the lucky recipient of this box opens it up to find the surprise wreath and holiday greeting inside.
7 Spring Fling Decorate the center section of two 12 x 12 pieces of white cardstock (the box bottom and the box lid). Starting with the lightest color of PrintWorks Collection Ink Spots (Daffodil) first ink the center part of the Buddy Flower from JudiKins. Apply Marigold Ink Spot along the outer edges of the flower. Stamp 5 times on each piece of cardstock, re-inking for each impression. The second image used is the Floral Spray from JudiKins, inked with Primrose Pink and Orchid Ink Spots. Judi re-inked for every other impression. Finally fill in the design with the Calligraphic Doodle from JudiKins with the Orchid Ink Spot. Judi created a dimensional flower for the surprise (download page 2,3,& 4 of the Surprise Box Template). Print and cut out panels and flowers. Assemble panels like Judi did in the Webisode. Adhere the larger flower first to the center of the box bottom and layer the small flower on top. Christmas Wreath Instead of white cardstock use Cranberry Red paper with ShimmerKote Green panels from JudiKins to make this beautiful embossed Christmas wreath greeting. The embossing powder is Pine Tinsel from JudiKins. Photo Surprise Judi s husband, Rob, created the panel templates for this project. He also made this Photo Surprise Box using 12 x 12 lavender card stock and the panels from page 1 of the template. Trace the panel shapes onto the back on 8 photos be mindful of the photo positions when tracing. Cut all 8 panels and assemble the same way Judi put together the Surprise Box with Flair. Congratulations You ve just completed your Suprise Box with Flair, but the fun doesn t stop there! Be sure to stop back by The Scrapbook Lounge every week for more exciting new twists on scrapbooking!
