4 Map Robot 390 and the Captain of Space Fleet Earth had been flying slowly through space on Exwing the Rocket for 100 years. Nothing had really happened since everybody had left Earth, but as they slowly flew past Mars, things were going to quickly change. Beep, bip beep, beep bip beep, bip, bip beep, bip beep beep, bip beep, beep bip beep beep, said Robot 390. I have an coming through from Space Station 9. The Captain opened his robot belly to read the Dear Captain. We have reports of very big meteors ahead of you in the shape of very big balloons, and we know that bees love balloons. So proceed with extra caution! PLUTO

100 years ago back on Earth, all of the bees had

themselves, and then they disappeared into space.

7 100 years ago back on Earth, all of the bees had turned bad and kept all their honey for themselves, and then they disappeared into space. When they left all the flowers died, and then all the people had to leave as well. The Captain rushed over to the rocket s main window to look outside. There were indeed balloonshaped meteors, and the Captain could see something else too. Oh no, she said, the bad bees are back! Robot 390 tried to compute what to do. They could try to herd them like space sheep, but the bees were too fast. They could try to catch them in a space net, but the net had big holes and the bees were small. The Robot searched all his books and brain cells for an idea, and then one of the clever children on the rocket gave the Captain a clever plan. Bees love balloons and bees love chips too! So we should tie chips to balloons! The Captain agreed and off they went to make chips.

We ll make bees the biggest and most important animals at last! First, we take over Exwing the Rocket! Moo de ha ha ha har! What kind of music do planets sing? neptunes!

9 The rocket had a toy room and a loud slurping noise was coming from it. The honey has nearly run out, said Lenya the dolly as she licked the honey jar. It s almost finished, she said as she put her head in the jar. There was a big slurping noise and then Lenya said now it s all gone! But I m a honey eating doggy! said Pluto the honey-eating doggy. What about me? What about all the other toys? Well, I m a greedy dolly! said Lenya. Do you like mud? I ve got a smelly piggy covered in mud. You could lick that. Urgh! said Pluto. I told you, I m a honey-eating doggy! If there s no honey, we ll have to ask bees to make it for us! Just then the space cleaner came in to clean the toy room. He propped open the door as he mopped the floor and Lenya and Pluto stood very still as he walked past them. Have you ever been outside the toy room? Lenya whispered to Pluto. Pluto said No, I m just a toy dog, and Lenya said Now s our chance! The space cleaner thought he heard a toy speaking, but then he thought that was impossible, and as he went back to cleaning Lenya and Pluto ran through the toy room door and explored the rocket.

10 Down on the surface of Mars, Robot 390 and the Captain were powering up the Mooncraft with a full load of potatoes. But they hadn t eaten chips in 100 years and they couldn t remember how to make them. I think we mash potatoes to make chips, said the Captain. No, said the green aliens who were nearby. You cut the potatoes into squares. It was very complicated for Robot 390. He changed his arm for a potato chopper and after slowly chopping and chopping and chopping, he said Captain, I have cut all the potatoes into squares. How many chips do we have? asked the Captain and Robot 390 replied Two. With the two chips and some balloons they drove off in the Mooncraft to look for bees. But what the Captain and Robot 390 didn t realise was that if they wanted to find bees, they should ve stayed on Exwing the Rocket. Because Munchkin and the Queen Bee had watched them go down to Mars. Now they re gone we can take over the rocket, fly to all the planets and turn them all into beehives! Moo de ha ha ha har! laughed the Queen Bee.

Munchkin and Queen Bee squeezed themselves into mitch outfits and, after bashing their heads on a window a few times, they got through an air vent and found themselves in the rocket control room!

At that moment Lenya the dolly and Pluto the doggy also came into the control room and saw them. Look, there are mitches, said Lenya.

Lenya said You know what I think of bees? I think their stripes make them look fat! This made Munchkin and Queen Bee a bit upset.

They tried to keep pretending to be midges but as Lenya and Pluto said ruder and ruder things about bees they got madder and madder.

12 At that moment Lenya the dolly and Pluto the doggy also came into the control room and saw them. Look, there are mitches, said Lenya. Yeah, but they are buzzing like bees! said Pluto. They couldn t take the insults anymore and threw away their mitch costumes! You re bees! said Pluto. This is Lenya, she is a greedy dolly but I m a honey-eating doggy! Do you have any honey? Munchkin and the Queen Bee decided to trick Lenya and Pluto. We have lots of honey and we ll give it to you if you show us how to open the main door.

We tricked you! You re not having our honey!

The Captain ran into the control room to see why the rocket has stopped and the Queen Bee jumped on him! I haven t stung a human in 100 years! she said and Munchkin tied the Captain up in bee fluff. Then Robot 390 came in to help. The bees flew at him but they couldn t sting him because he was made of special metal. So the Queen Bee flew into what she thought was his shutdown button and he went to sleep. Exwing the Rocket is mine! yelled the Queen Bee! Now Mars and all the other planets will be mine too! and off they went to celebrate with balloons. What is an astronaut s favourite key on a computer? the space bar!

Munchkin and the Queen Bee came in looking very smug as they thought they had won. But then all the children launched their rockets and each one captured lots of bees!

14 But, Robot 390 was pretending to be shut down. He was actually sending messages to the children on board Exwing the Rocket asking for their help. Together they made lots and lots of great rockets and then when the plan was ready the Captain called oh bees! Lovely bees! We have two chips for you! Munchkin and the Queen Bee came in looking very smug as they thought they had won. But then all the children launched their rockets and each one captured lots of bees! The rockets flew off into space and took all the bees far, far away never to trouble anyone ever again! We did it by working together! cheered the Captain! All the bees have gone and left all their honey, said Robot 390. I won t be hungry ever again! said Pluto the honey eating doggy with honey dripping down his chin and paws. Why did the cow go into space? to see the moooooooon!

15 Then an came through on Robot 390 s belly. We, the green aliens of Mars and many other planets, thank you for helping us clear our planets of bees! Exwing the Rocket was now a very famous rocket, and the whole galaxy told stories of how the children on board were the greatest heroes the galaxy had ever seen!
