Language Arts and Minifigs Created by Mary Prather homegrownlearners.com 2013

This printable is designed to provide fun language arts time for your children. The target age is 6-12, but of course that depends on your child. It is designed to reinforce language arts skills and inspire creative writing. Skills include: parts of speech (verbs and adjectives) synonyms and antonyms proofreading creative writing alphabetical order Please don't feel restricted to use just the minifigs I have included in this printable. Let your children create their own minifigs and use some of the activities in this packet with them. (You might also be interested in the original Minifig Printable, as well as Minifigs for Boys and Girls.) This is meant to be fun, and not drudgery. Create a Language Arts and Minifigs Notebook (use page 1 of this download as the notebook cover) and get creative. The sheets in this download can just be a part of a larger notebook your child creates themselves. The sky is the limit! I hope you have as much fun with Minifigs as we do! ~ Homegrown Learners homegrownlearners.com mary.prather@homegrownlearners.com

Color this Alien Minifigure:

An adjective is a word that describes a noun. Write 10 adjectives that describe your alien. Then, give your alien a name My alien's name is: (Don't forget to capitalize the name!)

A verb expresses ACTION. What are some things your alien can do? My alien can... My alien can... My alien can... My alien can... My alien can... Draw a picture of your alien doing one of the things above!

Can you write a short story about your alien? (Don't worry about spelling or punctuation... just write! This is supposed to be FUN. Did your alien do something really STRANGE? )

An antonym is a word that means the OPPOSITE of something else. (For example, hot and cold are antonyms.) Write the antonyms for these minifig words: Happy Young Mean Interesting Big *Did you know that if minifigs had their own country, it would have the world's largest population today at 4 billion?

A synonym is a word that means the SAME thing as another word. (For example joyful and happy are SYNONYMS.) Write synonyms for these words: scary joyful obnoxious funny shy *Did you know that LEGO employees have their own personalized minifigs as business cards?
