2 SOCIAL CORNER Kathy Detwiler has been approved to continue as Pat Trouts replacement by the board until the January meeting. A BIG Thanks to all the summer volunteers, who volunteered for Saturday AM Coffee and Friday night Bingo Kitchen. More volunteers are always needed for both. A sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board. Just a note, if no one volunteers to do coffee on Saturday; (there will be no coffee). UP COMING EVENTS: November 21st - Saturday - at 5:30pm. Marilyn Keller will be the chair person. Please help and volunteer. December 19th - Saturday - 5;30pm. GAZETTE ARTICLES SUBMIT DATES FOR 2015/2016 Meetings are the 3rd Monday of every MONTH - Wednesday after each monthly meeting, PLEASE have all submissions in the office to allow for editing and printing of the Gazette Calendar submit dates below: Oct - Wed - 21st Nov - Wed - 18th Dec - Wed - 21st (Due to the holidays, we need your submissions as early as possible.) 2015 Calendar submit dates below: Jan - Wed - 21st Feb - Wed - 18th Mar - Wed - 18th (Final Gazette for April.) 3 FROM THE CITY OF MESA Please be aware that Palm Tree and Cactus trimmings, DO NOT go in the Green Barrels. From site this is a reminder of some items as follows. DO NOT bag yard waste such as grass, leaves, plant trimmings, small tree branches and pruning's in green barrels. Due to the uses of the collected material and composting process, palm fronds, oleander trimmings, citrus fruit and cacti are currently NOT accepted in green barrels. Please leave ONE (1) green barrel for the maintenance use only. That means two barrel are for anyone s general use if needed. Also, please do not use green barrels for lumber, trash, food waste, citrus fruit, animal waste, metal and concrete. Visit ADDITION INFORMATION FROM THE CITY OF MESA The city has a Tool Lending Program. The site with all the information is at (mesaaz.gov) under neighborhood-outreachtool lending program. You will find all of the tools available and how you can access them. 3

4 WELCOME BACK WINTER RESIDENTS COMING AND GOING We want to take time to THANK all of the winter residents who helped let the office know when you plan leave or return to the Velda Rose Gardens-Countryside community. It was only in the March and April Gazette s that we have just started a new request to let the office know when you leave or return the community. Of the possible (???) 57 residents with summer homes, about 15 of you let the office know what was happening. As our community changes, so due the residents who have lived here a long time and the information of who is coming when and leaving when change, so we are trying to have a central location for that information in a general recognition location. We know it will take some time getting use to for this to happen on a larger scale, but reminders will continue to be sent on occasion and this will help the office know who are in their home and when; so we can watch for any unusual activity, etc. The office thanks all for your cooperation. THANKS TO ALL! A special Thank You to all my friends and neighbors for the out pouring care and concern during Bob s illness and passing. He would have been very pleased to know that people cared that much. I hope to be back to participating in the activities shortly. Phyllis Revolt GOLFING INFORMATION Golf will be at Sunland Springs again this year. The schedule is for Monday and Thursday at 7:55am. Join us for good exercise and fun. 5 ALL CARD GAMES PLAYED IN THE CLUBHOUSE If a card game is being played in the clubhouse, ALL MEMBERS MUST BE WELCOME. If NOT, it will be necessary to take the game to your home, if you consider it a private game. CRIBBAGE It s time for a new volunteer to step up to the plate and take over the chairperson position. That involves making coffee and getting the room ready for the evening game. Suspicious Activity - What is it? BLOCK WATCH Any activity that is questionable or that does not look right to you, call for a Police Officer to check it out. Anything left in the vehicle within view will act as bait. Getting to know your neighbors and helping to keep your community safe by being the eyes and ears of the Mesa Police Department. 5

6 ON THE SHELF Welcome back to our park. There are a lot of new books in the library, so take a few minutes to look at the shelves. All your favorite authors such as Ken Follett, Catherine Coulter, Michael Connelly, Debbie MA Comber, Dale Brown and Danielle Steel, are waiting for you. Hornet Flight by Ken Follett is an espionage yarn about the spy game in wartime Europe. The Final Cut by Catherine Coulter features Scotland Yard s Detective Chief Inspector, Nicholas Drummond. Drummond partners with FBI Special Agent Mike Caine while retrieving the stolen Koh-i-Noor diamond.. The Concrete Blonde by Michael Connelly combines tough cops, court room drama and serial killers to develop a suspenseful multi-level mystery. Author, Dale Brown, is known as a military adventure writer. In Wings of Fire, Brown puts the reader into a Middle East adventure along with General Patrick McLanahan of the U.S. Air Force. Don t miss Full Dark, No Stars, it is one of Stephen King s psychological chillers. It includes an extraordinary collection of 4 dark tales. Lying in Wait by suspense writer, J.A. Jance; is a fast-paced story featuring Detective J.P. Beaumont,. Beaumont opens a Pandora s Box when he investigates a death that happened over a half century ago. Belva Plain, author of many best selling romance/suspense books, writes about Blessings.
