From the desk of the President, Steve Newton Happy New Year to all, I hope everyone who has been good this past year, got what they were looking for. Those not so lucky, keep trying for next year. Our new 2018 board will be announced Fire Prevention Fire Season is Upon Us Palm trees with DEAD fronds are a major FIRE hazard as are most types of evergreens and eucalyptus trees. Flying embers caught in palm trees make them go up like matches, and they in turn send out embers many feet off the ground. These high flying embers are taken by the wind to various areas as reported in recent fire events throughout California. There are too many tall palm trees within our Spring Knolls community that are in severe need of trimming. The dead fronds are a fire hazard and require trimming. With the recent rash of fires, especially one in our neighborhood, it is really a "call to arms" to keep Spring Knolls safe. at the Annual Meeting, Saturday, Jan pm at the Unit 1 Clubhouse. Nighttime Walks During the holiday time and throughout Winter months we have visitors to our neighborhoods. Often they are not familiar with our streets: the fact that we have stop signs, NO sidewalks and that people are out walking (in the streets) at dusk and into the evening hours by themselves and/ or with pets. SO PLEASE TAKE PRECAUTIONS!!! Take a flashlight with you, wear reflective clothing and also consider wearable lights you can attach to yourself and your pet. KEEP YOURSELF & YOUR PETS SAFE!

3 Page 3 City drops fees on emergency calls The City of Murrieta has scrapped fees charged for fire department medical calls, effective Jan. 1. Since 2012 the city charged residents $350 per call. Residents were also able to opt for a $48 annual fee to cover any calls. All fees have now been scrapped. The city s action does not eliminate charges by private ambulance firms. Your Spring Knolls Library, inside Unit 1 s clubhouse, now has hundreds of books including dozens of best sellers that our residents may take at no cost and keep!! Located in two book cases to Everyone s Brand of Fun the right of the library entrance, these FREE books are older ones, but all are in great condition. We re removing them to make room for new donations, published since You may take as many of these Event Planning Wednesday, Jan am at the Unit 1 Library/Card Room Our November Boosters Brainstorming Meeting was very successful, identifying new and/or existing events that residents are interested in. There s something for everyone! Our goal this coming meeting is to commit those ideas to a calendar and plan for the new year. Everyone s welcome! Please come join us! Breakfast At The Knolls Hosted by Spring Knolls Boosters Saturday, Jan. 20 8:30 to 10:30 am At the Unit 1 Clubhouse $6.00 Biscuits & gravy, sausage and eggs, Juice, coffee and tea All Units invited!!! books as you d like. As the FREE books are removed, others will replace them. There are nearly 400 in all and we can t display them all at once. While you re grabbing your free books, check out the rest of our borrowing library. There are nearly 1,300 titles from hundreds of best-selling authors such as David Baldacci, Sandra Brown, Tom Clancy, Patricia Cornwell, Clive Cussler, Michael Crichton, Janet Evanovich, W.E.B. Griffin, Faye and Jonathan Kellerman, James Patterson, Nora Roberts, John Sandford and Danielle Steele. All books are color coded (guides are posted on the library walls) so you can easily find the genres you prefer: Mystery, Romance, Western, General Fiction, and at the left entrance our growing LARGE PRINT collection. The books may be borrowed on the honor system, with nothing to sign. We simply ask that you return them after you re done enjoying them, and treat them with respect. New Arrivals: Also at the library s left entrance is a bookcase of recently donated books. Thanks to all our donors! These new arrivals include best selling novels by Carol and Mary Higgins Clark, Janet Evanovich, James Patterson and Debbie Macomber. The books are waiting for you!! Check them out!!

5 Page 5 President continued from page 1 to improve our quality of life. I m pleased to say that I have had a very good working relationship with the entire board this past year, and I believe we will have a very strong cohesive board of directors for this next year. We try collectively to do the right thing for the good of the entire community. This for the most part works out well, and sometimes this doesn t work out so well. We keep trying. As this may be my last letter as president, I want to say THANK YOU to each and every resident here. I sincerely have appreciate your support!
