Day in Derry~Londonderry Music City Day! live across BBC Radio Ulster and BBC Radio Foyle, Friday, June 21, from dawn until midnight BBC Radio Ulster and BBC Radio Foyle join forces to broadcast live from dawn to midnight at Music City! Day on Friday, June 21. Music City! will see Derry~Londonderry become one giant performance space with hundreds of free musical performances across the streets, squares, neighbourhoods, venues, churches, offices and workplaces. Among the highlights planned by BBC Radio Ulster/Foyle for this special day include Sean Coyle s Shopping Dance, Hugo Duncan live from Guildhall Square and Stephen McCauley s Electric Mainline live from The Glassworks. Further information on guests lined up for events will be issued closer to the time. Tickets to both Sean Coyle s Shopping Dance from 10.30am-12noon in the Guildhall and Stephen McCauley s Electric Mainline Live in the Glassworks from 9pm-11pm are complimentary and will be allocated on the basis of a random draw. You can apply for tickets from 0900 on Friday, May 31 until 1200 noon on Wednesday, June 12. No applications will be accepted after this closing date. A maximum of two tickets will be allocated per household address. No late applications will be accepted and duplicate applications will not be considered. The lucky ticket holders will be able to put down their shopping bags, take a rest from a busy Friday in the City of Culture and remember the great dances of the past.

Sean Coyle and his usual team of Janet, Emma and The Undertone will be in the Guildhall, dispensing tea, biscuits and gossip to the guests of Sean s Shopping Dance. They ll be telling Sean the stories from dances of their youth while taking to the floor to the accompaniment of a specially chosen play list. Stephen McCauley will be showcasing some of the hottest new music talent in an intimate gig at the Glassworks with the promise of some cool surprises. Stephen said: Electric Mainline Live will be an intimate and impassioned celebration of alternative music, in a special setting in this special year, on this most musical of days. In the up-close-and-personal Glassworks venue, our floor show will include live performances from some of Electric Mainline s most beloved acts. It will be an unforgettable night! Why not join Hugo Duncan and the team live in Guildhall Square from pm with special guests. Marie-Louise Muir presents Arts Extra from the City Hotel from pm and Lynette Fay brings listeners a specially extended edition of Blas, with the best action from the Fleadh stage at Guildhall Square from 7-9pm. Hugo Duncan said: I am so looking forward to going back up to the Guildhall Square on Music City day. We have some great guests lined up to join us on stage, so if you are out and about sure come along and see us for a bit of craic and some brilliant music! Stephen McCauley presents Electric Mainline live from The Glassworks from 9-11pm on Music City! Day Rounding off the day will be Michael Bradley and Marie-Louise Muir with a Jazz Wrap Up, live from the City Hotel from pm. BBC Radio Ulster/Foyle presenters will also be reporting live from some of the many events organised through the City of Culture throughout the day. BBC Radio Ulster s Good Morning Ulster joins up with Foyle Breakfast to report from the Sky Orchestra five musical hot air balloons flying over the city, while Talkback will include a live massed performance of Danny Boy from Guildhall Square at 12.30pm. We pride ourselves on our rich music output and, with an unprecedented number of outside broadcasts back to back, listeners will be in for a diverse range of treats across the day. David and Phil will be taking viewers backstage at the UK s biggest free ticketed music event with exclusive interviews with the stars that rocked the city over three unforgettable days featuring some of the biggest artists and top DJs. The one-hour highlights programme, BBC Radio 1 s Big Weekend, starting at 10.00pm will bring viewers the top performances over the three days including; The Script, Olly Murs, Bruno Mars, Calvin Harris, Two Door Cinema Club, Robbie Williams and Dizzee Rascal and much much more. Marking the occasion of Derry~Londonderry becoming the first ever UK City of Culture, each episode is themed after a favourite song from the city; Teenage Kicks, The Town I Loved So Well, All Kinds Of Everything and Things Can Only Get Better. These classic songs begin our journey through the archives to explore the rich cultural heritage of the region. This four part series starting on Wednesday, June 12, BBC One NI, 10.35pm is a celebration of the unique North West spirit, as told by the favourite sons and daughters of the region. Narrated by Richard Dormer the series features contributions from Phil Coulter, Dana, Peter Cunnah, Billy Doherty (The Undertones), Gerry Anderson, Sean Coyle and Hugo Duncan with archive featuring playwright Brian Friel, champion boxer Billy Spider Kelly, US President Bill Clinton and comedian Billy Connolly. I think it is absolutely crucial that we hold on to unique moments in time, says music legend Dana.
