7 GNSS antenna automatically provides two levels of accuracy The top circular section of each beacon contains a performant GNSS antenna connected to a dual frequency receiver system which supports the following GNSS constellations: GPS, Glonass, Galileo and Beidou. The GNSS receivers automatically provides two level of accuracy: ~70 cm SBAS/WAAS. Using corrections provided by air navigation aid systems such as WAAS or SBAS. This is generally a navigation mode which is considered as the offshore (or fall-back) mode, used for example when the vessel is approaching the harbour and might be out of range from a land-based RTK reference stations which would otherwise provide the highest position accuracy possible in GNSS navigation systems. Given the accuracy required when docking, this mode does not provide enough precise navigation aid and it is rarely used within the context of a high precision navigation aid system such as BANANAS. ~ 1-2 cm RTK Real Time Kinematics is by far the most accurate and reliable method to provide navigation aid. This is the principal method used to navigate with Cadden s PPU. 06/12/2017 7

8 The radio antennas make a good handle to grab the beacons Located just below the GNSS antenna, three vertical handles allow the PPU to be easily grabbed with one hand. The handles contain performant and reliable radio antennas: One UHF antenna to communicate with RTK base station and also to the Vessel Tracking System (VTS) One GSM antenna to connect to the internet in order for the GNSS receiver to acquire RTK corrections One VHF antenna to enable the PPU to function as AIS transceiver Two Long-Range Wifi antennas (one on each beacon) to assure the two beacons to communicate with one another over a distance of 100m-200m. The Wifi antenna can also provide the pilot with a strong and reliable wireless connection to a tablet or laptop 06/12/2017 8

9 The electronics is tightly compacted, light and very performant Below the radio antennas, all electronics components are contained in a cylindrical tube The system delivers 1 cm position accuracy and the ability to detect a speed of 1 cm/sec and a ROT <0,1 /min Heading is computed via the wireless dual-antenna system based on L1/L2 RTK GNSS and aided by gyroscopes which also guarantees enhanced tightly-coupled dead-reckoning based on Kalman filter Heading accuracy is 0.01 over 10 m baseline An Inertial Navigation Sensor (INS) is also embedded to detect specific vessel motions, hard for the pilot to sense, which help to anticipate the hydrodynamic phenomenon causing the SQUAT effect 06/12/2017 9

10 The safe hot-swappable batteries provide unlimited autonomy At the bottom section of the beacons rest the hot-swappable and rechargeable Nickel Metal Hydride batteries (NiMH) These type of batteries are safer during transport as compared to Lithium Ion batteries which pose an enormous threat for exploding. Besides performance and ergonomy, Cadden s PPU can be widely used while other PPU may not be suitable for all situations Each battery have an autonomy of 6 hours If needed, a battery can be replaced while a beacon is on, without any loss of power, by simply sliding it out of the cylindrical shape and by inserting a new one The recharging time of a battery is 3 hours which allow enough time with a spare set to provide unlimited autonomy 06/12/

11 The PPU comes with an embedded software called BanApp The main software which comes with the PPU is a simple and intuitive app called BanApp. This app can be installed on pilots laptop or tablet. Using BanApp, pilots can monitor the strength of the wireless link between the tablet and the beacons, the battery power level, the status of satellites in range, the accuracy provided, the status of the RTK differential corrections received, and the overall system s health BanApp s main purpose is to allow pilots to observe the exact location of the vessel and the PPU in order to make the appropriate angular heading correction relative to the centreline versus the orientation of the beacons This app can be used before proceeding to manoeuvring and can subsequently be hidden. If the pilot desires, sounds and voice messages are played to alert the pilot of important notifications, such as for example: low PPU s battery level Settings up BANANAS for the first time can easily be configured by simply connecting via Wifi using a laptop, tablet or smartphone and using any browser 06/12/

12 Navigation software and real time tracking solutions work via wireless communication with the beacons Navigation Sw BANANAS integrates 2Hz NMEA data and therefore is compatible with any navigation software which supports NMEA protocol. Some renown software package on the market are: Qastor, SEAiq Pilot, SevenCs, and Transas Pilot Pro Cadden Cloud Solution (CCS) Cadden has also developed its own real time information sharing solution which is used for example today by FUGRO for offshore operations CCS allows a station unit to monitor & track in real time the navigation of an entire fleet Peers acquire messages and information made available from the cloud such as: chart, bathymetry, meteo ocean, VTS, MPX forms as well as any other data one wishes to share It works in a similar way as any other information sharing network with the only exception that Cadden Cloud Solution (CCS) is based on UHF radio communication 06/12/
