5 . PROGRESS SUMMARES. Figure 11 shows the delivery schedule for guidnce nd nvigtion systems to be used in the Commnd Module. NASA pproved, on 1 August 1963, MT/L's proposed chnge in the composition of Blocks nd 11, thereby mking AGE 13 the first system in Block 11. However, MT/L's flow pln (Figure 12) providing for shipment of G & N systems intended for flight directly to AMR, ws not pproved pending further evlution within MSC. NASA's decision s contined in Dtfx letter, SG (PEE:wb) dted 1 August 1963, from D. Gilbert to M. Trgeser ws s follows: "The flow pln which provides for shipment of Guidnce nd Nvigtion systems intended for flight directly to AMR cnnot be pproved t this time. This flow pln is considered to be desirble from the point of view tht less running time will be on flight system thn if it were shipped to the spcecrft mnufcturer, tested t tht point s well s tested prior to lunch t AMR. t will be necessry to secure the opinions of number of MSC divisions before this flow pln cn be pproved. For present plnning purposes it should be considered tht ll systems will be shipped to the spcecrft mnufcturer for test nd ssembly with spcecrft prior to shipment to AMR. ASP will undertke to resolve this flow pln with other elements of MSC s soon s possible. "The delivery schedule presented for the Commnd Module shows chnge in Block 1 delivery from previous chnge point t System 9 to new chnge point t System 13 coincident with delivery of the first LEM Guidnce nd Nvigtion. This chnge in Block 11 strting point is considered stisfctory with the condition tht Commnd Module systems must not be delyed becuse of the LEM System Design Relese. "The flight plns for AFRM 9 cll for this to be n unmnned bllistic flight nd guidnce nd nvigtion system will not be 1

6 provided s prt of the onbord systems. G & N System No. 5, previously llocted to AFRM 9, will now be llocted to North Americn's House Spcecrft No. 1. Since the bsic electricl nd mechnicl integrtion of the G & N with the spcecrft will be performed on House Spcecrft No. 1 insted of ARFM 9, it is impertive tht this system be delivered on time s indicted in the G & N recovery pln. No relxtion will be permitted in the delivery requirements for G & N System 5. ' M[T/L submitted proposed Apollo Guidnce Equipment Flow Pin to NASA in letter AG38263, dted 23 Msy 1963, s reflected in Fig. 12. This proposl hs not yet been pproved nor hs ny lternte been dopted. After flow pln hs been pproved, Fig. 12 will be modified to indicte the respective irfrhmes to which the vrious AGE'S will be ssigned. Figure 13 shows proposed LEM flight test schedule (flow pln) giving the lloction of LEM Guidnce nd Nvigtion Systems (LGE) to LEM vehicles. This proposl ws presented to NASA by MT/L in My 1963, nd is documented in MT/L letter AG38263 dted 23 My A meeting ws held in July to determine sttus of AGE4 hrdwre (Fig (Reference Apollo Project Memo #659, dted 24 July 1963, by P. J. Srmnin). The following prgrphs hve been bstrcted from the bove nmed memo, nd supplement the AGE4 schedule informtion contined in lst month's report. "Delivery of PSA4, nd therefore the strt of nertil Subsystems testing hs slipped bout one month, from 15 August to 15 September. t is expected tht on 15 September those trys of electronics necessry to strt Subsystems tests will be vilble. Hopefully, the remining trys will be delivered in time to prevent delying the completion of Subsystem tests. "AGE4 Systems tests, s result of the one month slip indicted bove, should strt on 15 October, rther thn 15 September (see enclosure of APM #63). ACSP hs indicted tht delivery of the preproduction GSE will slip from 15 August to 1 September. "The interim AGE4 JBox nd hrness hve slipped from 26 July to 7 September, leving bout five weeks of mrrige nd checkout time. J. Flnders' test PSA JBox will follow two weeks lter. D.
