6 Evolution of Energy Meters Over the years the Electro-mechanical meters are now replaced with Electronic Meters.

7 Evolution of Energy Meters and metering equipment Concept of Third CT Display changed from Electrometrical to Electronic Meter data storage and communication Ultrasonic Welding is introduced Immunity/logging of events to external magnetic field. Immunity/logging of events to external DC injection, ESD & Jammer Devices/Magnetron. 8 CONCEPT OF 3 RD CT The 3 rd CT was introduced for accurate recording by meter when NEUTRAL is not available. Third CT provided the voltage for generating reference. This enables meter to work accurately even when only phase is available to meters. These days battery are also used in place of 3 rd CT. 2 CT s 3 CT s 8

9 ELECT ROMECHANICAL TO ELECTRONIC DISPLAY Meter display reflects the health of meter along with much relevant information. Reading, MDI, Tamper count, Tamper duration, Meter Serial no. Date & Time etc.. 9

10 DATA STORAGE AND COMMUNICATION Meter is developed and made SMART to log each and every instant, & it captures the events, in which made to stop accurate recording with external devices such as magnet, ESD, Jammer, DC injection etc Optical Port for Communication Meter Reading instrument Base Computer Software 10

12 Immunity/ Logging to External Tamper Devices Energy meter are developed in such a way that they are either immune or evident to external tamper devices. 12

17 Control Measures Theft Detection Double Shunt Physical Inspection The meter will be found slow during accuracy check. Single Shunt Physical Inspection The meter will log Earth Tamper / Partial load. Accuchek Results -= meter slow by % 17

18 External resistance in CT secondary circuit. Resistance are inserted to reduce the current for calculation i.e. resulting in less recording. 18

20 RELAY CIRCUIT INSIDE THE METER Remote Circuit Proximity Sensor Circuit A MAGNETIC PROXIMITY SWITCH IS A DEVICE WHICH SWITCHES ON IN THE PRESENCE OF A MAGNET. IN THIS CASE IT WAS SWITCHING OFF THE POWER SUPPLY,WHOSE WIRES WERE CONNECTED VIA THE CONTACTS OF THIS SWITCH. 20

21 Control Measures COVER OPEN event in meter display and data. Physical Inspection of Energy meter from FRONT & REAR. Check the incoming phase current with milli ampere meter i.e. clamp meter at no load condition, it shall be less < 50mA. 21

25 Control Measures Theft Detection We had developed DATA retrieval Zig specially designed to retrieve data of deliberately burnt cases through its Non Volatile Memory i.e. NVM. NVM mounting position Optical Port for Communication 25

26 Magnetic field Meter are put under the influence of strong magnetic field resulting in either no recording or less recording. 26

27 Control Measures Theft Detection As soon as Meter is put under Magnetic filed greater than defined value the meter is educated to record at Vref & Imax. At the same time meter will log an event of MAGNET 27

28 ESD & Jammer These are the devices which influences the accurate recording by microcontroller. 28
