2 About Vishay Intertechnology Growth Through Innovation and Acquisition Vishay was founded in 1962 to manufacture and market foil resistors, an invention of Dr. Felix Zandman, Chairman of the Board and founder. The Company began operations with foil resistors and foil resistance strain gages as its initial product offerings. In 1985, having grown from a start-up into the world s leading manufacturer of these original products, Vishay began an ongoing series of strategic acquisitions to become a broadline manufacturer of electronic components. Today, Vishay is one of the world s largest manufacturers of discrete semiconductors and passive electronic components. Vishay s acquisitions include such top names as Siliconix, Telefunken, the infrared components business of Infineon, General Semiconductor, Dale, Draloric, Sprague, Vitramon, and BCcomponents (former passive components businesses of Philips Electronics and Beyschlag). These names and the products associated with them are integrated into one global company: Vishay. 3 Vishay Products Semiconductors Vishay, through its Siliconix division, is the number 1 manufacturer worldwide of low-voltage power MOSFETs (metal-oxide semiconductor field-effect transistors) used to manage, switch, and convert power in computers, cell phones, and the communications infrastructure, and to control motion in computer disk drives and automotive systems. Vishay Siliconix silicon technology and device-packaging milestones include the first power MOSFETs built on a Trench silicon process (TrenchFET s) and the first power MOSFETs offered in small-outline, surface-mount packages (LITTLE FOOT ). This tradition of innovation continues with technologies such as WFET, designed to maximize power MOSFET performance in such applications as dc-to-dc conversion and load switching, and with new package options for better thermal performance (PowerPAK ) and smaller footprints (ChipFET, MICRO FOOT ). A recent innovation is the PolarPAK package, which uses double-sided cooling to create a more efficient, faster switching MOSFET. Small-signal transistors (RF and AF) and metal-oxide-semiconductor monolithic integrated circuits (MOSMICs ) are also included in the Vishay Semiconductors portfolio. In 2005, Vishay introduced a new series of high-current rectifiers that were the industry s first Schottky barrier rectifiers based on Trench MOS technology. Vishay continues to expand this product line, which now includes rectifiers in a new miniature package type that enables higher-current-density power supply designs. Passive Components Vishay is the world s number 1 manufacturer in several categories of the passive components used in virtually all electronic systems. Power management, signal conditioning, motor control, data acquisition, and data transmission are just a few of the applications in which passive components from Vishay play a vital role. Resistors Vishay is the world s number 1 manufacturer of many types of resistors, including wirewound power resistors, foil resistors, thin film resistors, MELF resistors, leaded power film resistors, and leaded fusible resistors.
