2 Exam Board: AQA Course outline for AS Photography (Lens and light based Photography) Component 1 Portfolio (60%) internally set, internally assessed and externally moderated (no time limit) Component 2 Externally set tasks (40%) - internally set, internally assessed and externally moderated Preparatory period + 10 hours supervised time Preparation sheet to be given 1 st February 2016 Assessment criteria AO1: Develop ideas through sustained and focused investigations informed by contextual and other sources, demonstrating analytical and critical understanding. (link to task 2 and 4) AO2: Explore and select appropriate resources, media, materials, techniques and processes, reviewing and refining ideas as work develops. (Link to Task 1 and 4) AO3: Record ideas, observations and insights relevant to intentions, reflecting critically on work and progress. (Link to Task 1) AO4: Present a personal and meaningful response that realises intentions and, where appropriate, makes connections between visual and other elements. (Link to Task 1 and 3)
3 Welcome to Photography! Photography is an universal language that enables everyone to express their ideas creatively as well as generate many interesting thought provoking debate. It is a visual language that everyone can understand and access. Over the summer holiday, we hope you will find the assignment tasks for this subject are challenging and rewarding. Most of the tasks will focused on the syllabus requirement or assessment criteria. Task 1 Photo challenge You are asked to take at least one picture for each of the following themes. It is entirely up to you to decide how you plan to take these photographs. (see help sheet and induction day lesson) 1. Colour 2. Lens flare 3. Portrait 4. Mood 5. Landscape 6. Old 7. Modern 8. 12 Task 3 Evaluate your images You need to select 3 best images from Task 1, explain how you have met the keyword theme and write a short evaluation (WWW & EBI).

14 Extension Task 4 develop and edit your images with annotation After taking your pictures from task 1 - photo challenge, we would like to see how you will develop two photograph using Photoshop or any apps of your choice. Apps can be pic monkey, Pixlr editor, snap seed, tilt shift generator and so on. Your development should focus on the impact and value it has to the original one. 16 How to analysis a Photograph: Content, Form, Process and Mood Content - looking at the subject of the photograph What is it? What is it about? What is happening? Where and when was it taken? What do you think that the relationship between the photographer and subject/s is? What does the photograph represent? What has the photographer called the photograph? Does the title change the way we see the photograph? Is it a realistic depiction? Have any parts been exaggerated or distorted? If so, why? What is the theme of the photograph? What message does the photograph communicate? Form - looking at the formal elements Colour -Is the photograph colour or black and white? How does this affect the mood? Tone -Is the photograph high or low contrast? How and why? Line -What sorts of lines are there in the photograph? How have they been positioned in relation to the rest of the composition? What effect does this have? Shape -What sorts of shapes are there in the image? Doe they remind you of anything? Do you think the photographer meant this? What kind of marks does the photographer use? Pattern/Texture -What kinds of patterns and/or textures are there in the photograph? Mood - looking at the communication of moods and feeling How does the photograph make you feel? Why do you think you feel like this? Does the colour, texture, form or theme of the photograph affect your mood? How and why?
