2 PHOTO WORKSHOP - Lady Elliot Island Join one of Canada s and the worlds most iconic photographers for 8 days of stunning shoots and creative thought provoking opportunities. We are not only offering a small group of just 12 photographers the chance to experience and learn from Freeman Patterson s internationally famous photography style and ethos, but also to understand the complete picture behind shooting great images and enjoying photography beyond simple imagery. Freeman is joined by our WPA team of Darran and Pearce Leal. This means you are offered three of the worlds leading photo educators. This is a rare opportunity! Freeman Patterson Freeman Patterson has been a freelance photographer since 1965 and his contribution to the medium is recognized around the world. He is the author of five best-selling instructional books on photography and visual design and eight other books, including The Garden, a collection of images and writing about his home at Shamper s Bluff. In 2013, the Beaverbrook Art Gallery and Goose Lane Editions published FREEMAN PATTERSON: Embracing Creation, a major retrospective of Freeman s career co-authored by Freeman and art curator Tom Smart. Freeman has conducted week-long workshops annually in Canada since 1973, in South Africa since 1984, from time to time in New Zealand since 1992, and in many other countries. Freeman believes a sound knowledge of visual design is fundamental to clear visual expression and focuses on this in his illustrated lectures. He has received numerous national and international honours and awards for his photography and teaching, including the Order of Canada and the Order of New Brunswick. Lady Elliot Island - the adventure... Lady Elliot Island is one of the most photogenic locations on earth! This small Great Barrier Reef island is found just off Bundaburg in Queensland. We include a complete 8 day package, starting with return flights from Hervey Bay. Darran relates Lady Elliot as a mini Galapagos Islands experience. It is an amazing world class shoot location and has been very popular for our 7 previous visits! We base ourselves at the islands resort for the entire week. This is the perfect location to target - The Great Barrier Reef, thousands of nesting birds, sea turtles, unique creative shoot options and much more. This workshop is not only about photography, but also about Freeman offering you a wider picture as to the use of your images, perhaps hidden talents and to increase the enjoyment of your photo interests. Your tutors will target specific opportunities, plus allow quality time for your questions and for you to enjoy and explore the island. You also have the option to explore underwater. (An underwater camera is not required, but will open up more creative options for you.) Reef shoes are supplied. You will be amazed at what you can shoot walking the reef at low tide! On the island itself, you have a myriad of subjects and beautiful light to play with. We are offering this great adventure to just 12 photographers. Book early!

3 Mini PHOTO TOUR - Lady Elliot Island Lady Elliot Island - the adventure... A GREAT FUN PACKED WEEK... DAY 1 - Saturday - February 7 We meet at the small airport of Hervey Bay, about four hours drive north of Brisbane. Jetstar and Virgin offer flights to Hervey Bay from all capital cities. Please arrive at least February 6 and overnight in Hervey Bay. (Accommodation is not included, but will be recommended.) We fly the next morning to our island paradise - the adventure begins... February 7 - We take off from Hervey Bay. On arrival, we are offered an orientation of the resort and we are shown to our rooms. (When they are ready.) You have a choice of the Reef rooms, with en suite, or the Eco Huts with share facilities. Today we include a two hour workshop to cover basics and beyond, plus a short island walk. Your first day will offer hundreds of new images and Freeman underlining his base principles of photography as an art. Dinner tonight at the resort is included. A great chance to talk more about photography. (D) DAYs 2/3/4/5/6/7 - Sunday to Friday - February 8-13 Six full days of field workshops and hours of shooting opportunities. Some subjects you can shoot from your deck. Others you will need to be careful that you do not walk on. We also offer free time to relax and explore. Thousands of birds plus amazing reef shoots at low tide are followed by the chance to shoot turtles. We might even have young turtles coming out of the sand? Freeman will offer a workshop each day, with Darran and Pearce assisting. You will love the challenge of trying new techniques and thinking differently from the information supplied to you. We include audio visuals and at weeks end, the chance to look at everyone s 10 favourite images from the week. The diversity will amaze you! (B,D) TRANSPORT... Your flight, as a group, return Hervey Bay is included. You can fly to Hervey Bay via Jetstar/Virgin, or it is a 4 hour drive north of Brisbane. (Transport to Hervey Bay is not included.) ACCOMMODATION... We are based at Lady Elliot Island Resort for 7 nights. This is a base 2.5/3 Star resort and perfect for our workshop needs. We are offering two levels of accommodation. 1. Reef View rooms are closest to the water with the best views and hotel type rooms including en suite. 2. Eco Huts are back from the water and use share facilities. They are priced accordingly. All accommodation is based on twin share, with single supplement available, until fully booked. (Limited reef rooms available, please book early.) WEIGHT LIMITATIONS... This workshop has a weight limitation due to the island flights. Please see our How To Pack Series of video s on our website to help you. You will be surprised how easy it is to pack for 10kg and still take your tripod! In our many visits to the island, no one has had a problem with this perceived limitation. Details and price are subject to change. DAY 8 - Saturday - February 14 Early morning shoot as time allows. We fly back to the mainland. (About 50 minute flight.) 4 MEET YOUR TOUR TEAM DARRAN LEAL Professional photographer and guide With over 400 successful photo tours/ workshop and seminars worldwide and counting, Australian-born Darran s lifetime loves are travel and outdoor photography. He combines these with vast experience in delivering global photo tours, workshops and seminars. Darran is one of the world s few full-time professional photo guides. He leads photographers of all levels to many of the world s most captivating locations. As a natural born photographer, educator and adventurer, Darran s career inevitably led him to help others explore and capture their world. Now Darran spends his time up to his arm pits in crocodiles, cuddling gorillas or herding photographers. Julia was born in Liverpool, England yet soon migrated to New Zealand with her family. She launched her travel career in 1979 in tropical Noosa, Queensland where she managed one of the first resorts in the region. Then it was back to Auckland, New Zealand to take up the role of travel consultant. Before long, Go International snapped Julia up as a travel rep. While leading an educational tour on Norfolk Island in 1989, Julia met Darran. Though her career remained trans-tasman for several years after, Julia is now in her element as a travel consultant extraordinaire for World Photo Adventures. Your airfares are an extra cost unless your itinerary specifies otherwise. All transfers, laundry, tips, drinks and sundries not listed in the itinerary also fall outside our tour price.
