August Speaker - Barbara Banks Our August Speaker is local photographer, Barbara Banks. Banks acts on curiosity about our world minute, expansive, intimate, breathtaking, gritty, illusive, provocative, impermanent. She investigates our surroundings human, natural, constructed. Via the lens and using the magnificence of light, color, shadow, form, visual intimacy and vulnerability, subjects are viewed/experienced, yet not objectified. Banks is well-known and respected in southwest Florida and her current residence, Sarasota, Florida. While her focus is editorial assignment work and environmental portraiture, Banks is also widely sought after for her beauty/fashion and striking real-time wedding photography. Personal projects with the smart phone and 35mm digital cameras incorporate the tradition of film and fixed lens cameras, without manipulation, and range from street photography/cultural activism, to observations of our relationships to the natural environs. 2 Moean Art Center and Hot Shop Tuesday, July 12, 2016, 12:30PM Our monthly field trip on July 12 will be tovisit the Morean Art Center and Hot Shop in St Petersburg, FL. At the Hot Shop, we will photograph the glass studio and wewill be givena fascinating demonstrationof glassblowing. Afterwardswe will travel a mile down the road to the Morean Art Center to photograph the works of art by artist Dale Chihuly. Tripods will not be allowed on this field trip. Meet us at Town Hall at 12:30 to sign forms and get directions. We will not be stopping for lunch so please eat before hand. This will allow us plenty of time to see both locations. June Meeting Recap Macro photographer kept us enthralled for a good hour talking about his critters, flowers and how to photograph them. He talked about indoor vs. outdoor macro, the use of flash and the set up for a simple home studio that any of us could do. He discussed the use of macro lenses and his specialty lens the Canon Super Macro MP E 65, and surprisingly, mentioned his use of Larry George Membership Director Stacy White Social Director Frank Kane Learning and Individual Development Director Tim Nerenz Marketing and External Communications Director Cas Bruniany Hospitality Frank Kane and his group of Cookie Monsters will have soda and water available for $1 each, cookies for 25 and assorted snack bags for 50. Focus Group Focus 50/50 Winner The 50/50 winner this month was Stacy White who took home the first prize of $114. A spot in Maike Matthews Workshop was won by Sam Samarasinghe. Lynn Flood won a $25 Hunts Gift Certificate. TJ Magnuson won a light meter. Hats where also won by Susan Beausang and Don Seger. Each month we will look at the work from our Focus Groups. This month we featured work from our Characters focus group. Focus Groups Blogs Check out what the Focus Groups have been up to by visiting their Blogs. Those currently set up are: Birds Blog Closeup-Macro Blog Happenings Blog Landscape Blog Mike Matthews Frog and Reptile Macro Workshop Theere are a few places left in the afternoon session of Mike Matthews workshop on Saturday, July 23rd. You will have the opportunity to photograph different species of exotic reptiles and amphibians such as the red eyed tree

4 frog, brightly colored poison dart frogs, and numerous lizards and snakes along with some beautiful still lifes. All animals will be set up in natural settings in a controlled environment with live plants, flowers, leaves and bark to produce some of the most stunning photographs that would be hard to duplicate even in the wild. You may recognize Mike s tree frogs from the many award winning FCCC photos that were taken at his workshops. The winners were 1st Place - Sue Sanborn, 2nd Place - Tom Kim, 3rd Place - Roxana Walters. The judges were Lou Newman, Sam Samarasinghe and Larry Dietch. Congratulations to all the ribbon winners for the nd Triannual Digital Competition. Our members won a a total of 41 ribbons. Well done everyone.

5 Morag Reid won a yellow ribbon for her creative entry "Riding the Curve" June Field Trip Ringling Museum with a Crystal Ball Photo By Patricia Reed A ton of fun was had by large group of members on our trip to the Ringling Museum. Some of us brought our crystal balls... no we weren't trying to see into the future, but we did take some interesting photos as a result. To see more images visit the gallery here.

6 Next Meeting Our next meeting will take place on August 18, 2016, 6-8:30pm at the Woodlands Community Church 9607 SR 70, Bradenton, Florida. The 8 10 Print-Of-The-Month Contest (members only) theme is Sunrise/Sunset One print per person.
