1 SENIOR RECOGNITION AD PACKET 2018 PROWLER YEARBOOK Ads will go on sale beginning July 1 st As the student in your life approaches the major milestone of graduation, the Prowler yearbook staff is pleased to offer senior recognition ads to commemorate this achievement. These congratulatory ads will give families, friends, and teams/organizations the opportunity to show pride in their graduates. Yearbooks will be distributed in the spring and will allow your senior to see their ad before graduation. This packet explains the size of the advertisements available in addition to prices, design templates, and submission information. The deadline to submit a senior ad is Friday, October 27 th. Please direct any questions to yearbook adviser, Nima Kapadia, at Kapadian@friscoisd.org. will be the fastest way to receive a response. If you would like to schedule a conference to discuss your senior ad, please Mrs. Kapadia to schedule an appointment. Yearbook staff members will you design proofs upon completion of the senior ad. Proofs will be available approximately 5 to 6 weeks after the order is complete. The yearbook is a learning lab for students as they practice real-world skills by working with individuals to design the senior ads. Please let the receptionist know you are dropping off a senior ad. In-person drop offs will be accepted from 2:30 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. daily.

2 TWO WAYS TO PURCHASE A SENIOR RECOGNITION AD 1. JOSTENS online. Order and pay at and select Create Parent Ad. You may only purchase online with a credit card. Upon request, Jostens Customer Service will allow you to divide your order into three payments. The order form, photographs and message must still be submitted to Wakeland High School by Friday, October 27 th. 2. Return the completed ad packet by October 27 th. This includes the order form, photographs, and message. A line item will be added to your student s MyPaymentsPlus account. You may divide the total cost of the senior ad into payments, which will need to be indicated on the order form. AD SUBMISSION GUIDELINES PLEASE READ! The adviser and administration have the right to reject ads that do not conform to school dress code. This includes hair color, piercings, and articles of clothing. Poses will also be taken into consideration. Please take into account that a high-resolution proof will be given to preview. However, there may be subtle differences once the yearbook is printed. Order form, payment, message and photographs must be turned in together. Please DO NOT turn in a pre-designed, completed ad. This is a learning lab for students. The learning experience includes working with a customer and applying design concepts. Custom fonts/typefaces are not allowed. No photographs from websites such as Facebook or Twitter. Both websites compress photographs to 72 dpi, which does not provide enough quality for printing. We prefer to receive original digital picture files. Only.jpg or.tif files can be used, and the resolution must be at least 300 dpi. Ideally, we would NOT like photos to be ed. Doing so compresses and compromises the quality of the photographs. Please send in your photographs on a USB drive or file share them with us by using a website such as DROPBOX. If they do need to be ed, please send them to wakelandyearbook@friscoisd.org with the student s name in the subject line. Hard copy photos must be in color and printed on photo quality paper. Computer/inkjet printouts of photos cannot be used. Please do not cut, glue, tape or staple original photos. Care will be taken to return photos, if requested, after the senior ad has been proofed. However, copies of prints should be submitted for irreplaceable photos. The campus, yearbook staff, and the yearbook company do not accept responsibility for lost or damaged photos. Select vertical [tall] photos for vertical spaces and horizontal [wide] photos for horizontal spaces. Photos can be enlarged or reduced to fit the layout. The yearbook staff will crop or scale them to fit the designated space. If you would like us to consider your cropping suggestions, please note them on the order form. Writing lightly in pencil, put the student s name on the back of each photo and indicate where you want the photo in your design (if more than one photo is included)

Typography package (not available in 1/8 or 1/4 page ad) Additional fees/penalty fees: Late ad orders after deadline-$25.00 (late orders will only be accepted till Friday, November 3rd) Incomplete ads will be considered late. Additional photos over the ad space limit -$10.00 per photo Changing photos after the deadline- $5.00 per photo *All penalty fees are due by ad proofing. Payment for an ad does not constitute you purchasing a yearbook. Purchasing a yearbook is done separately. You may also purchase a senior ad online with a credit card at Wording and photos must still be submitted to Wakeland High School. 4 Allen Wakeland Message from parents goes here. This is a 12 point font. Please consider readiability with a busy background photo and text on top. To help readiability of the message, we will put the parent message on a color background due to the difficultly of reading text over a busy background. Love, Mom and Dad SAMPLE. Full Page Ad w/full background photo example Helpful tips-a background photo will limit the number of photos you can put on a full page. Keep in mind the cleanness of a background in the photo. Will it allow text to be put on top of it AND be easy to read? Here we added a color box behind the text to make it work, but that did limit the number of photos and the amount of text.

5 LLEN WAKELAND Message from parents goes here. This is 12 point font. Consider readiability. 2 to 10 lines of text in 12 point font written in Microsoft Word or Google Doc about three inches wide. Strongly encourage the message be from the heart. We strongly encourage you to type exactly as you want it to appear. Avoid symbols like &. We will put the word and. We also avoid hyphenation in the paragraph. We will correct grammar and spell check. Names are always difficult to spell check. If you use words or phrases that are inside jokes, that s fine. We might flag it for a follow-up question, but it is okay. Always remember less is more with senior ad. The best ads usually have the best photo choice. Be picky with photo selection.
