D-65 s LIGHTROOM WORKBOOK WORKFLOW, NOT WORKSLOW WHAT S NEW IN LIGHTROOM 6 1 Seth Resnick and Jamie Spritzer

Fig 1: Splash Screen Lightroom CC 2015 We always have loved Lightroom and the good news is that we still love Lightroom but we decided not to write a book on LR6 because while there was a fair amount of work under the engine improving the application, it is really pretty thin in terms of new features and those are covered in this PDF. Our primary book remains D-65 s Lightroom Workbook Workflow, Not Workslow in Lightroom 4. This is still our Bible and outlines our complete workflow in detail. Soft cover: Ebook: 2

Our Lightroom 5 book, D-65 s Lightroom Workbook: What s New in Lightroom 5, covers all of the changes to Lightroom 5 which were primarily the addition of Local adjustments in the Develop Module. It too outlines our workflow in detail and is available as an Ebook at: The first thing you may notice is that it isn t simply called Lightroom 6. The real name is Lightroom CC REQUIREMENTS TO UPGRADE Before you decide to upgrade it is important to make sure that your computer and operating system can be upgraded. Lightroom CC 2015 will require Mac OS X 10.8 or above, or a 64 bit version of Windows 7, 8 or 8.1. If you are on Mac OS X 10.7, or a 32 bit version of Windows, you will continue to be able to install and run Lightroom 5 and use Lightroom mobile. However, you will not be able to install Lightroom CC 2015 until you upgrade to a supported operating system. WHAT S NEW IN THE DEVELOP MODULE We have long been advocates of integrating Photoshop and Lightroom. One way of integrating the two in the past was to produce 32 bit HDR images and Panoramas. We would select our images in Lightroom and then edit in Photoshop taking advantage of these features and then go back to Lightroom. Now in Lightroom CC 2015 we can take advantage of those awesome features directly in Lightroom. 3

PHOTO MERGE HDR Let s first examine HDR which stands for High Dynamic Range. The new HDR workflow offered by Lightroom CC 2015 is similar to what was previously offered in Photoshop but there are differences. When you merge raw files to HDR using Lightroom CC 2015, the result is just another raw file and provides all the usual editing advantages of raw including the ability full process. There are several other advantages. Because the HDR merge is performed in raw space, it is not necessary to sync develop changes between images prior to HDR (e.g., white balance, lens corrections etc.) The HDR merge is Lightroom CC 2015 is performed with higher-quality results than Photoshop and many times it only requires 2 images to achieve excellent results. Essentially the new merge feature in Lightroom CC 2015 is not about processing the image as much as it is about creating the HDR file. It s up to you to use the usual Develop controls to render the image, just like you would with a normal raw file. Photo Merge HDR Demo Step 1 For our demo we start with three images in the Grid Mode in the Library. In this particular case we were in Iceland photographing a waterfall and we could not make a single exposure that would capture all of the highlight and shadow detail. We were without our tripod so we framed the scene and shot the scene using a 3 exposure auto bracket. The first frame is shot at a normal exposure. The second frame shot under exposed 2 stops to capture the highlights in the sky, and a third frame over exposed 2 stops to capture detail in the shadows. 4

Note that with some higher end cameras we can now shoot up to 7 frames in burst mode. This allows a very rapid succession of the brackets so there is very little camera movement from frame to frame. Of course, ideally this would have been done with a tripod to prevent changes in composition from frame to frame but excellent results can still be achieved without a tripod as demonstrated below. We have found that with a tripod 7 exposures produces the best result, and without a tripod 3 exposures are produce the best result. Additionally make sure you are using raw files. While this can be done with Jpeg images, the best results will come from RAW. It is not necessary to adjust the images. Lightroom will make adjustments in the background while processing. Fig 2: Three bracketed frames selected in Grid Mode in Library Step 2 Next we make sure all three images are highlighted and selected and we go to the Photo Menu and drop down to choose Photo Merge HDR. This choice is available from both the Develop Module and the Library Module. 5

Fig 3: Select images and choose Photo Merge HDR. Step 3 Depending on what camera you are using and how big the files are and how many exposures you took, it may take a little while for Lightroom to build the previews but you will see the HDR Options box even while Lightroom is building the preview. Fig 4: Lightroom CC2015 builds Preview for Photo Merge HDR. 6

Step 4 The HDR Options Box presents several options to choose from. Auto Align: Attempts to align the edges of multiple images and is generally a good choice. Auto Tone: Attempts to adjust highlights and shadows and is a good starting point. Do not expect that your image will be finished however as the real goal of Photo Merge HDR is to simply create the HDR file. It s up to you to fine tune the image to your liking. Deghost Amount: Sometimes there will be areas that are different between the images you are merging. In our example the flowing water for example changes between the images. Deghosting helps blend those areas. There is a choice of None, Low, Medium or High depending on your needs. There is also an option to Show the Deghost Overlay. When selected you can see the area for Deghosting. Fig 5: Lightroom CC 2015 builds Preview for Photo Merge HDR. In our example we have chosen to Auto Align, Auto Tone and set Deghosting to Medium which is shown with the red overlay. 7

Step 5 We choose Merge and the new HDR RAW file is created and appears next to the images it was created from if sorted by Capture Time. The new file has the extension HDR.dng. We can now further process this file to our liking. Fig 6: Our new RAW file is created and has the extension HDR.dng and can be further processed in the Develop Module. Workflow Tips The shortcut for the Merge Tool is Control + H Headless mode runs the merge process immediately, in the background, based on the last used Merge settings and bypassing the Merge preview window. 8

To run Merge in Headless Mode, hold down Shift while selecting the merge menu option. Keyboard Shortcut for HDR Shift+Control+H Photo Merge options will only be available if two or more photos are selected, or when a single closed stack is selected. Changes to any merge settings should trigger a new preview merge, canceling any previous preview generation that is in progress. The Cancel button aborts the merge session. The Merge button performs the final merge using full resolution versions of the selected images. You cannot initiate a merge using Smart Previews. Once the final merge is complete, the merged result (in DNG format) will be added to the catalog. Lightroom CC 2015 requires certain minimal metadata to be present to perform the merge so it should show an error if you try to merge photos of different sizes, focal lengths, etc. The merge dialog is resizable, and the preview within is panable/ zoomable (similar to loupe view). The preview size is limited to 2048 pixels across the long edge on retina displays (max of 1024 pixels on non-retina), and zooming or resizing will not increase the maximum preview size. On Mac, the keyboard shortcut O enables or disables the mask overlay, and Shift+O will cycle through the mask overlay colors. Merged DNGs will be named with the following conventions: <base name of the active photo>-hdr<-optional sequence number if there is duplicate name conflict>.dng 9

PHOTO MERGE PANORAMA Another very neat new addition to Lightroom is the ability to assemble a Panorama in Lightroom without going to Photoshop. The ability to build a panorama is nothing short of remarkable. For our demo we hand held a series of shots with a zoom lens and change the zoom between frames. Step 1 We select 8 raw files in the Grid Mode of the Library or in the Filmstrip in the Develop Mode and choose Photo Merge Panorama from the drop down menu under Photo. Fig 7: We select 8 RAW files in the Library Grid and choose Photo Merge Panorama 10

Step 2 Depending on what camera you are using and how big the files are and how many exposures you took, it may take a little while for Lightroom to build the previews but you will see the Panorama Options box even while Lightroom is building the preview. Fig 8: Lightroom CC2015 builds Preview for Photo Merge Panorama. Step 3 The Panorama Options dialog box presents several choices Auto Select Projection: Analyzes the selections to decipher the best method of assembly Spherical: Aligns and transforms the images as if they were for mapping the inside of a sphere. If you have taken a set of images that cover 360 degrees, use this for 360 degree panoramas. 11

Cylindrical: Reduces the bow-tie distortion that can occur with the Perspective layout by displaying individual images as on an unfolded cylinder. Overlapping content across files is still matched. Best suited for creating wide panoramas. Perspective: Designates the middle image as the reference image. The other images are transformed so that the overlapping content across the images is matched. Spherical and Cylindrical and Perspective each produce different views and you can try them all by simply selecting and seeing which one produces the most pleasing effect. Auto Crop will crop to fill frame. Fig 9: Lightroom CC 2015 builds Preview for Photo Merge Panorama. In our example we have chosen to Auto Select Projection and Auto Crop. 12

Step 4 We choose Merge and the new panorama file is created and appears next to the images it was created from if sorted by Capture Time. The new file has the extension Pano. We can now further process this file to our liking. Fig 10: Lightroom CC 2015 creates the new file and it appears next to the originals if sort by capture time is selected. Workflow Tips: Panoramas seem to work best in both horizontal or vertical format with about 20% overlap between images. Generally try and apply lens corrections to individual images before assembling panorama. Shortcut Pano Control+M 13

Headless mode runs the merge process immediately, in the background, based on the last used Merge settings and bypassing the Merge preview window. To run Merge in Headless Mode, hold down Shift while selecting the merge menu option. Auto crop option when merging panoramas. Aligned HDR results are always automatically cropped. You can reset or change the crop on the full size result using the Crop tool. When merging panoramas you will see a warning if Lightroom was unable to automatically locate a lens profile for the selected images. In this case, you can manually apply a lens profile to the selected images and Lightroom will use that when merging the images. Lens corrections are always applied before merging. File Naming Merged DNGs will be named with the following conventions: Panorama: <base name of the active photo>- Pano<-optional sequence number if there is duplicate name conflict>.dng 14

CROP TOOL UPDATE The crop tool received a little love, which makes horizon lines that are out easier to correct. In The Crop Panel you will fine a new Auto button. This works just like the Level tool but in an automated fashion. Fig 11: Lightroom CC 2015 introduces an auto feature to straighten horizon lines. Workflow Tip Shift+doubleclick on the Angle slider label to also engage auto LOCAL CORRECTIONS UPDATE One small but handy addition is the ability to simply reposition any Adjustment Brush stroke simply by selecting and dragging the Edit Pins. 15

Fig 12: Simply grab an Edit Pin and drag to reposition Another handy little improvement is the ability to constrain the brush to straight lines, either horizontal or vertical by using Shift and clicking. Fig 13: Shift Clicking constrains brush to straight horizontal of vertical lines. 16

FILTER BRUSH We think that one of the most useful additions in Lightroom CC 2015 is the ability to add to or subtract from an existing gradient or radial mask. In Fig 15 below, we applied a gradient from the bottom up as shown in the red overlay. We wanted the gradient applied to the sand at the bottom but not to the trees. We applied the gradient and then clicked on Brush to the right of Edit. We then subtracted from the gradient with a brush by using control and we simply painted away from the gradient. In Fig 16, we used the Radial Filter to adjust the man, but the Radial Filter was extending onto the door and shadow where we did not want it and was not extending onto his elbow so we again used Brush to add to and subtract from our radial mask. Tres cool. Fig 14: With Brush we can add to or subtract from existing gradient or radial masks. 17

Fig 15: Using the Alt/Option Key and Brush we paint away from an existing gradient. Fig 16: Adding to and subtracting from a radial mask using the new Filter Brush. 18

GPU Acceleration Lightroom CC 2015 introduces a new preference specifically for the Develop Module, which may speed the response for folks doing a lot of local corrections. GPU Acceleration uses the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) to help speed up image processing. For many users this may provide realtime or near-time updates to the image while making adjustments in the Develop module using sliders. It does not have any effect on other modules and does not increase the speed of Lightroom overall. The GPU is particularly helpful when using high-resolution screens, such as 4K and 5K displays. The support for GPU is enabled by default. There is new "Performance" tab in the Lightroom preferences, and if you want to disable GPU, uncheck the "Use Graphics Processor" checkbox. Fig 17: GPU Acceleration enabled There are some minimum requirements to take advantage of GPU acceleration which include: Minimum system requirements: 64-bit only OpenGL3.3and up Mac OS 10.9 and higher o Windows 7 and higher 19

When you choose Use Graphics Processor Lightroom will try and engage the GPU. If it is successful it will display the name of your graphics card below the checkbox. If it is unsuccessful it will display an error message. There are some glitches to be aware of. Make sure that your video drivers are up to date. On Mac, video drivers are updated via OS update, but on Win, the OS is not always accurate and may tell you that outdated drivers are just fine. It may be necessary to visit the card manufacturer's web site to download a dedicated video driver update utility if you are having problems. Additionally, note that some Develop tools will see significant improvements, whereas others are about the same as before. For the tools that do gain in performance, the increased performance should be more noticeable on larger displays. For those who use dual displays you may find that GPU Acceleration inhibits your workflow because the only image window that is GPU accelerated is the one attached to the controls, in the main panel (immediately to the left of the image adjustment controls). Thus, secondary monitor windows, Navigator view, filmstrip view, Fullscreen mode, etc. are not GPU accelerated, and hence no change in performance which may show as a lag time between both displays. LENS CORRECTIONS UPDATES For those who are shooting with mirrorless cameras there is one new benefit in the Lens Correction panel. Some mirrorless cameras have lens corrections built in so the Lens correction panel now indicates if a photo has built-in lens correction applied. 20

Workflow Tips New Keyboard shortcut to cycle through Upright modes: Control+Tab. You can preserve your crop using Option+Control+Tab on Mac OTHER ADDITIONS IN THE DEVELOP MODULE PET EYE As a professional we never used the RedEye correction and one additional feature added which we also won t use is called Pet Eye which is red eye correction for animals. Under the Red Eye Correction tool, the Pet Eye option allows for one-click detection and correction of green, yellow and other pupil discoloration sometimes caused by camera flash in animal photos. Pet Eye also auto applies a synthetic catch light, that can be turned on or off, and repositioned manually. Additionally, The Develop Module has incorporated the following changes: CMYK support in softproofing History panel load time is improved Image switching time is reduced, particularly when working with a large list of Develop presets. 21

WHAT S NEW IN THE LIBRARY MODULE The main feature to Lightroom CC 2015 is Face Tagging or Face Recognition. I wish I could be positive about Face Recognition but it is filled with so many problems that we have a hard time even defining a target audience for this feature. When it was introduced in testing we thought it may be neat to tag in Lightroom and then export to Facebook with the tags in place but this is not possible. We also thought that since we have keyworded for years that it would be neat to simply see our images with keywords recognize those and apply them as face tags but again that is not possible. Your catalog needs to be indexed to take utilize Face Tagging and for us this process grinds Lightroom to a halt or crashes Lightroom altogether. With 96,000 images it took several days to index. The biggest problem for us is that when we keyword an image manually we are 100% accurate. We would expect at least something close to this with Face Tagging but we found a very high rate of false results. In Fig 18, below we tagged a photo of Jay Maisel and then Lightroom found all of the other images of Jay Maisel and suggested that we accept these choices as Jay Maisel. Lightroom suggested my dad who is at least similar in age but also suggested my daughter Luci age 7, some paint cans in Morocco, Himba woman in Namibia and over 500 other folks and objects that were not Jay Maisel. It is difficult to determine what audience is being targeted for Face Tagging but it may appeal to folks who take lots of snapshots of family and friends and those who photograph groups of people. So while we can t advocate Face Tagging the following is some information that may be useful for folks who want to give it a try. 22

Fig 18: Face tagging revealing false positive and false negatives for a search. Facial Recognition Demo Step 1 We select a folder of images in the Library. For our demo we selected a folder called _zac. We click on the People in the toolbar or use the shortcut O to invoke Face Tagging. Fig 19: People chosen In Toolbar after selecting a folder of images to Face Tag 23

Step 2 Lightroom CC 2015 starts indexing the selected images. Notice that even for a few hundred images this can take quite some time. The progress of the task can be seen in the activity center. Fig 2:0 After choosing People, Lightroom begins to index the selection. Fig 21: Indexing can take quite some time even with a small selection of images. 24

Step 3 As we already have a keyword called, Zac, we need to convert the existing keyword to a Person Keyword. We do this by selecting our keyword in the Keyword list and control click and select Convert Keyword to Person Keywords. Fig 22: Our existing Keyword called Zac is Converted to a Person Keyword. 25

Step 4 We click into the field to type in a name and type in Zac. Fig 23: We type in the name Zac into the field. 26

Step 5 We would continue this process until complete. Named People now shows 16 images of Zac, recognized but as you can see in our example window even though there is another group of images of Zac almost identical to the chosen one, Lightroom CC 2015 fails to recognize the other images. Fig 24: Zac now recognized in the Named People section. Step 6 As this process continues and Lightroom CC 2015 starts to learn faces it slowly starts to suggest that other images are indeed Zac but it continues to still miss many images which are indeed Zac. 27

Fig 25: Zac recognized in some choices but missed in others Step 7 If we double click on one of the images we can see the entire image with box around the face. Fig 26: When double clicking on selected image we see it full size with a box around the selected face. 28

At this point of our demo it warrants to say that we could accomplish almost exactly the same thing by simply selecting our images that have Zac and applying the keyword Zac with one step. Fig 27: Keywording in the traditional manner accomplishes essentially everything that we just showed in one step. Workflow Tips: For those of you who would like to continue to play and try Face Tagging here are some workflow tips to help with your progress. Turn off Automatically detect faces in all photos in the Catalog Settings. Invoking faces on need using the toolbar will limit indexing only when needed. 29

Indexing will start on a selected folder(s) or collection(s) when the Draw Face Region button is pressed in loupe mode. This choice will bring slower computers to a halt. Indexing will stop however stops when Draw Face mode is switched off or user switches to Grid view. We feel that it is worthwhile to hide this choice by preventing it from showing in the toolbar. This will prevent accidental activation of this mode. Remember that the button only appears in the drop down menu when loupe mode is active. Fig 28: Hiding Draw Face Region from Toolbar Indexing will ask to turn on the first time you enter People view for your entire catalog. If Smart Previews are available, indexing may be faster, since Lightroom won't have to read the entire raw file off of disk. If a photo is offline (and no Smart Preview is available) Lightroom will not try to index it. If indexing is turned on for the whole catalog, Lightroom will automatically index offline photos when they come back online, the next time Lightroom is launched. People View shows all the faces that have been detected in the currently selected source. If Lightroom is confident that several faces are in fact the same person, it will group them together into a stack. 30

When you name a face, or a stack of faces, the faces move from the Unnamed People section of the grid to the Named People section of the grid. You can drag and Drop faces from Unnamed to Named stacks. There is a running count of faces in both the Named and Unnamed sections You can multi-select and name multiple selected faces at the same time. When typing names in People view, auto-complete will only suggest other person keywords. Double clicking on a named person takes you to Single Person view. Double clicking on an unnamed person takes you to loupe view. Double clicking on any face in Single Person view takes you to loupe view. Double clicking in loupe view takes you back to People view, if that s where you entered loupe view from. The Export dialog includes a Remove Person Info checkbox which will prevent the person keywords from being included on export. Draw tool is available in Loupe view. The Draw tool allows you to manually add Face regions. This is useful when Lr isn t able to detect the face. 31

Keyboard Shortcuts for Facial Recognition When a single face is selected in the Unnamed section, you can activate the text field under it with the Shift+O O toggles the People view. Confirm the suggested name by using Shift + Enter When you press the Option/Alt key and scroll the mouse over a face stack you will see a preview of all the faces in the stack. Delete key in People view will delete the selected Face region. S expands or collapses a selected stack in People view. You can also click on the stack badge to expand and contract the stack. Both long press and short press behaviors work. You can right-click on keywords and choose Convert Keywords to Person Keywords to convert them to Person keywords If you convert a parent keyword, all the children keywords will also be converted to Person keywords. If you apply an existing keyword to a face in People view, the keyword will be automatically converted to a person keyword. You can also right-click on a keyword and select Put New Person Keywords Inside This Keyword to set it as the default parent keyword for all new Person keywords. 32

ACTIVITY CENTER Lightroom CC 2015 adds an Activity Center which is located by clicking on the Identity Plate in the upper left of Lightroom. Fig 29: Activity Center The Activity Center shows the progress of certain background operations and allows you to pause and restart them. When you first activate a feature viewable in the Activity Center, the Activity Center will pop open and show a bit of explanatory text. A right-click in the ID plate area lets you control which background tasks show in the ID plate area. 33

IMPORT TO A COLLECTION You can now import directly into a collection in the import dialog box, including a collection synced to Lightroom mobile. You can create a collection from the Import dialog or from a Tethered Capture session and the collection can be placed inside a Collection Set, set as the Target Collection and also sync with Lightroom mobile. Fig 30: Importing directly into a collection 34

KEYWORD PAINTER The Keyword Painter can now be loaded up with keywords from any of your saved keyword sets. With the Keyword Painter tool active, press shift to bring up the Keyword Set interface. You can add an entire keyword set at once to the keyword eyedropper by using the select all button. All currently selected keywords can be removed at once with the clear button. Fig 31: Adding Keyword Sets to the Painter Tool COLLECTION FILTER Collections can now be filtered to help you find something within your Collections. In Fig 32, we are filtering for Namibia. To Filter Collections click the + in the header of the Collections panel, and turn on Show Collection Filter. 35

Fig 32: Filtering in Collections ADDITIONAL TIDBITS FOR THE LIBRARY Added 250% option to the Windows UI scaling preference. Added the ability to reset app preferences on launch by holding down Option-Shift (Mac) or Alt-Shift (Win). A new standard preview size called auto. Auto will automatically build previews at your monitor resolution (max size of 2880 pixels). You can shift-click in Quick Develop for smaller adjustment increments (now 1/6 stop rather than 1/3 stop). Percentage options have been added to the image resizing section of the Export dialog. 36

Fig 33: Percentage options adding to Export dialog A new preference to make badges in the filmstrip ignore clicks. (In the Filmstrip section of the Interface tab of the Preferences.) Flag and Rating categories have been added to the Metadata filters. Convert to DNG on import is now a separate background task that runs after import. Import speed on Mac has been improved. It is now on par with manually copying files to a folder in Finder and then adding to Lightroom. Thumbnail loading performance is improved after an Import. Export speed has been improved. Camera + Lens and Camera + Lens Setting have been added to the Loupe Info options in the View Options dialog. Library export can kick off up to 3 simultaneous renders. Moving photos to a different folder is faster than in LR5. WHAT S NEW IN THE MAP MODULE There were a few internal changes to help performance but no functionality change at all. 37

WHAT S NEW IN THE BOOK MODULE The only change to the Book Module is that photo text metadata settings are saved with custom pages which is more of a bug fix than a feature. WHAT S NEW IN THE SLIDESHOW MODULE The Slideshow Module was the recipient of a little love with some very cool additional features. One new feature is the addition of a Pan and Zoom feature that is enabled with a checkbox. The slider sets the amount of movement. Fig 34: Pan and Zoom added to Slideshow 38

You can now add up to 10 music tracks to a slideshow and they will be played sequentially in the order of choice. They can be reordered or removed in the Music Panel and they can automatically sync slide transitions to music via a checkbox. This is pretty cool and Lightroom CC 2015 will make transitions based on an analysis of the music. Fig 35: Multiple sound tracks and music sync in Slideshow Additionally Slideshows can now be previewed at your screen aspect ratio, or they can be previewed at your intended output ratio of 16x9 or 4x3. Lastly there are now Quality options. Select a lower quality to preview playback more quickly. This setting will affect only the quality of playback within the application, and that export will always be done at full quality. 39

WHAT S NEW IN THE PRINT MODULE There were no changes or updates in the Print Module. WHAT S NEW IN THE WEB MODULE There were some under the hood changes to the architecture of the Web Module, improving performance and Flash galleries were removed but HTML 5 galleries were added. Grid, Square and Track are designed to work well with desktop and mobile web browsers. Fig 36: Grid, Square and Track HTML 5 Galleries added to Web Module. 40

FINAL THOUGHTS While there are quite a few positive additions to Lightroom it is debatable if this release really warrants much more than a dot release. We felt that there simply wasn t enough for us to produce another book. We have covered just about everything in what amounts to one chapter. The public can be very tough and hopefully this release will be well received but we won t be surprised if it is met with a lot of criticism especially on an upgrade price. HDR and Pano are elegant and useful but the main feature which is Face Recognition is seriously flawed and even hard to know who the target is suppose to be. Lightroom has come along way and it remains my application of choice. I love Lightroom and as such I expect a lot with each major release. Adobe is not a tiny company and one problem with big companies is that change does not occur quickly and sometimes big companies get behind the curve and there is immense pressure to be seen as a forward thinker. If we take a look at the major camera companies, they all dove into point and shoot cameras and thought that they owned the world until the iphone destroyed that market. Recently the major camera companies dove head first into video and they thought that they owned that market to until there was a GoPro. Currently one of the camera companies is converting major plant into medical imaging and by the time they do they will be behind in that market too. 41

For Adobe there was and is enormous pressure to be a mobile competitor. I suspect that Adobe would like Lightroom to be considered a modern, device-agnostic experience. In mobile the term Device Agnostic, is rapidly becoming irrelevant as it becomes more and more essential. What s happening is that new trends are reshaping every aspect of our world, therefore expanding the notion of Device Agnostic far beyond just mobility. My daughter in first grade just did a report on the history and future of printing. She started with Johannes Gutenberg and went all the way to modern inkjet but it was her assessment of the future that was most interesting. She said there are to many buttons to press like a clicker on TV and she hopes that in the future she can think of a print and it would just appear from her screen Wow.. I certainly hope so.. We are now in a an environment which all personal and corporate computers will evolve from static machines into small, hybrid devices, designed to work from a desk to working on the move. In other words, everything we use will becomes mobile and portable, saying device agnostic will be as irrelevant as saying that a lemon is sour. Adobe is a very large company and that in itself makes it hard to stay on top. Smaller players can move quicker. I actually embrace and love all the new technology and it is changing and evolving every day. For me I want a mobile environment that lets me reach out to my LR Library in a transparent back and forth sharing of data. I want to be able to take my phone and access LR and post simultaneously to Google Plus, Facebook, Twitter and any other social media. I want to be able to talk into my phone and verbally keyword and have that data go back to my LR Database. I want my mobile device to do exactly the same kinds of things that I can do with my laptop. 42

I truly hope that Adobe can really think into the future and develop mobile to a point where it is truly a leader and not a follower. There are lots of great ideas that surface and I hope that LR becomes as dominant as Photoshop.
