CATALONIA (SPAIN) CIRCUS GLEICH Scale 1:25 Another piece of European circus history was obtained for posterity with the acquisition of this fantastic big model that was made by the Dutch model builder Mr Van Herwerden. His replica of the giant Circus Gleich, in the scale of 1:25, requires an area of almost 60 m² to put on display. It contains more than 900 figures, 600 animals and 170 vehicles. The circus of Julius Gleich ( ) was reputed in the 1930 s as being equal in size to Circus Krone and Circus Sarrasani, the largest European circuses at that time and it had a big tent with a seating capacity for 10,000 spectators. The model is now owned by Jean-Alain Marquant and can be seen by the public, when on exhibition at the Musée du Cirque et de L illusion * in the city of Dampierre-en-Burly, in France. The pictures depicted here were photographed by our contributor Christophe Roullin at the exhibition in the Casa Enporda Antic Escorxador (19.02 to ) in connection with 4th. Festival Internacional del Circ Ciutat de Figueres in Catalonia, Spain held from the 19th. February to the 2nd. March In that city also during the festival were several other exhibitions featuring circus memorabilia, photos, paintings in galleries and about circus in comic books etc., in the city library. *(The Circus & Illusions Museum * is a French museum dedicated to circus and conjuring and is located in the city of Dampierre-en-Burly, in the region of Centre-Val de Loire, France).
