2 NOTE: The Polytek software is used to setup the marking job and accepts the marking object in a bitmap format. Once jobs are created they are loaded into the controller card via the Ethernet connection. The controller card uses TTL signals to control the laser modulation in synch with the scan head movement. After job creation and download, the Polytek software is only used to start the job. SCOPE: This instruction manual is intended to provide basic guidance for the operation of Lanmark Controls Winlase 6 for Polygon and Polygon + Galvanometer Scanheads in those areas not currently addressed in the Winlase 6 LAN Manual. Since Winlase 6 for Polygons is undergoing constant improvement some features may not be addressed in this instruction, however the basic information for performing a given task remain valid. A more complete description of the features and capabilities not related specifically to Polygon operation can be found in the Winlase 6 LAN Manual In instances where this Instruction conflicts with the Winlase 6 LAN Manual, the Winlase 6 Manual takes precedence. 3 1. Initial Start Up a. Install Winlase 6 (WL6) from the USB device provided with your scanhead b. Insert Hardware Key Provided with your scanhead. c. Connect the Scanhead Control box to the Computer through the Ethernet Connection. d. Using the Key Switch, turn ON power to the Control Box e. Launch the WL6 application f. In the System Explorer Dialog area you should see the device as CDR Page 3 of 20

4 2. Lens Correction: From the Tool Bar, Select Tools, Under Options Select Lens Correction Library a. Select the version appropriate for your scanhead: i. Polygon for scanheads with a polygon only, Polygon_Galvo for scanheads with a Polygon and Galvanometer installed. ii. The Correction files named Polygon and Polygon_Galvo are Base files and cannot be edited Page 4 of 20

5 b. Select Copy, the copied file will be named as Polygon_(1) and can then be edited Page 5 of 20

Edit the Lens Correction File as follows: Rename as desired From Lens Data Sheet From Lens Data Sheet From Lens Data Sheet Set as desired Max Allowed Factory Set - based on installed MPA Set as desired, is smallest spacing allowed Min Allowed Can be used to reduce Page size to a value less than the Lens Field Size d. After entering the desired parameters, Click Done e. Set the newly named Correction file as Default. Page 6 of 20

7 f. The Correction File name will appear in the lower right hand corner of the WL6 application. This will be the default lens configuration for ALL jobs executed in WL6 Default Lens Correction File Page 7 of 20

8 3. Laser Driver Library: From the Tool Bar, Select Tools, Under Options Select - Laser Driver Library. Due to the wide variety in lasers and their characteristics, refer to the Laser Manufacturer s Operation Manual to set the Laser Power Data parameters referenced on the Laser Driver Dialog page. a. In the same fashion as the Lens Correction Library, select the Displayed Laser driver and the Select Copy, the new file will be named Coherent StingRay_(1) Page 8 of 20

11 b. After entering the desired parameters, Click Done and set the newly named Laser Driver as the default again the name will appear in the lower right hand corner of the WL6 application. This will be the default Laser Driver for ALL jobs executed in WL6 Default Laser Driver Page 11 of 20

12 4. Loading images: The ONLY images suitable for use with WL6 for Polygons are.bmp files. In order to avoid undesired results it is recommended that the source image be created in the desired final size and resolution as the image to be marked. WL6 will either add or subtract pixels on a purely mathematical basis to expand or contract images to fit the chosen size in the Object Dialog Field. 1. On the WL6 application screen Select the View drop down menu then Select Properties Window. The Properties Window will enable the user to define the properties of the imported image (Object) and the parameters for job (Job) execution. This window may be docked in any of 4 positions as indicated by the arrows that will appear on the screen. In the example shown below the window is docked on the right. (The window will populate once an image is chosen / imported) Properties Window Page 12 of 20

13 a. On the WL6 application select the File drop down menu, then select New Job. A Blank page will appear in the center of the Screen, named Untitled 1, you will also see in the Properties Window on Job Dialog Page. b. In the Laser System Configuration several parameters will appear which the user must configure for successful Job execution. i. Expand the Output Setting Menu to expose the parameters necessary to execute the Job. c. Configure the Output Settings as follows: i. Start of Scan this MUST be set to After transition LOW to HIGH via the drop down choices. ii. Start of Scan Input this MUST be set to PortUser1 via the drop down choices Page 13 of 20

14 iii. Scan Rate (Lines/s) - There are 4 available choices for this parameter based the pre-programmed Motor/Polygon (MPA) Controller speed settings. The MPA speed is controlled through the Control Box Speed Select Switch. Switch Position 1: 150 Lines per Second Switch Position 2: 300 Lines per Second Switch Position 3: 600 Lines per Second Switch Position 4: 800 Lines per Second Switch Position 5: External Reference this switch position will allow the user to select any MPA speed between 150 and 800 lines per Second. For use of this feature refer to the MPA Controller User s Manual iv. Pixel rate (khz) This parameter is NOT user adjustable directly and is a resultant of the parameters specified by the User. This is the rate at which the laser must be modulated to meet the requirements specified by the User for the image to be marked Page 14 of 20

15 v. Pixel Spacing (μm) Allows the User to determine the spacing between pixels in order to determine pixel overlap as desired. This parameter must be within the limits set up in the Lens Correction File vi. Pixel Resolution (DPI) An alternate method for setting pixel spacing vii. Laser Power (%) Sets maximum laser power if control is thru WL6 viii. Data Delay (μsec) Sets the time after the Start of Scan signal is received to when the Data stream (Laser Modulation) begins. Can be used to fine tune the position of the image within the lens field of view. 2. On the WL6 application select the File drop down menu, then select Import a. Select the desired.bmp file to be marked. Page 15 of 20

16 b. The image will appear by default on the Job page anchored with the bottom left corner at location 0.00,0.00 Page 16 of 20

In the Index section of the Job Explorer window, Select the image to expose the Object Properties dialog section of the Properties Window Object Properties Dialog Index Section with Image File Name d. The Object Properties may now be set as desired. *Use the Invert Pixels to mark the Black pixels NOTE: IN SIZING THE OBJECT, IT IS IMPORTANT THE OUTPUT IMAGE SIZE MATCH AS CLOSELY AS POSSIBLE TO THE ORIGINAL IMAGE SIZE IN PIXEL SIZE TO AVOID EITHER ADDING UNWANTED PIXELS OR REMOVING NECESSARY PIXELS. 20 5. Executing a Job: a. The marking process may be initiated by using the Green Play icon or through the Mark pull down i. The Run Process Dialog page will appear with the message Select Laser System, through the Pull down Menu select the desired Laser System. ii. After the Laser System has been selected the Message will change to Ready to Mark and the buttons will become active. Should it be desired to repeat the image multiple times check the Repeat Box otherwise the image will mark one time only. Page 20 of 20
